Title: UKGPL Season 37 (2020) 1967 F1 Grand Prix - Mexico City - Nov 8
Post by: EvilClive on November 05, 2020, 07:33:02 PM +0000
Season 37 F1 Full Grand Prix – Round 8 –  Mexico

Round 8 takes us to Mexico City. The Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez is a 4.304 km (2.674 mi) motorsport, named after the racing drivers Ricardo and Pedro Rodríguez. The circuit got its name shortly after it opened when Ricardo Rodríguez died in practice for the non-Championship 1962 Mexican Grand Prix. Ricardo's brother Pedro also lost his life behind the wheel nine years later.

This season we are experimenting with some Grand Prix length races which we estimate should take 90 mins to complete.
This change to our normal format has required some changes to our rules and etiquette, so please read everything carefully to ensure that you understand.

Server = UKGPL_8
IP = see iGOR
Race date = Sunday 8-11-2020
Time = 20:30 UK time (21:00 GMT) RACE WILL START AT APPROX 21:00 UK LOCAL TIME
Track = Mexico (Papyrus Original)
Race length = 47 Laps (90 minutes)
Variant = 1967
60fps patch used   = 60fpsV2newmod
Damage Model = Pro
Qualifying time = 30-45 minutes
Password: see above (#post_event_password)
Replay = here (https://www.sendspace.com/file/z5yrfy)

Please check the Season 37 details (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=1142&theme=6) regarding rules.

Drivers must complete 50% of each race to score.

PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY AND BE SURE THAT YOU UNDERSTAND.

QUALIFYING
During qualifying drivers are expected to drive back to the pits after each qualifying run. It is not permissible to return to the pits using the "Esc" key. If a driver crashes his car in qualifying and cannot return to the pits safely under his own power, he must not participate in the remaining qualifying period. The driver will allocated the grid slot achieved at that point.
REFUELLING
On some tracks it may not be possible to complete the full race distance on one tank of fuel. To avoid having to drive conservatively in order to save fuel, it is recommended that drivers make use of the Pit Stop patch which allows refuelling. Details are on the UKGPL web site on the Game page under the rules section.

We are using Lee Bowden's pit stop patch V 1.0 available here
http://srmz.net/index.php?s=2f2b26bfa1b153fa8e44e9fc470d61a9&app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_id=28268

This patch allows cars to refuel in the pits to the same level as when they started the race and does NOT allow for tyres to be changed.
 You do not have to make a pitstop and may choose to run the whole race by filling your tanks from the start.

For Season 37 we are promoting the use of TEAMSPEAK for those who wish to use it. Details can be found here
This allows drivers to speak to each other if they wish, IT IS NOT COMPULSORY.

Important!!!
RED FLAG RESTARTS
We hope that drivers will be cautious on Lap 1 and avoid any moves that might cause a crash.
However, because this is racing there might be an occasion where several cars are eliminated, or badly damaged, by an incident on lap 1 and we could be left with 4 cars that have a lonely 90 minute race ahead of them.
If the moderator decides that any such incident on Lap 1, has removed too many cars from the race, he is able to order a RESTART, and he will announce this on Teamspeak and then through GPL CHAT.
The server will be shut down and restarted. There will then be a SINGLE lap qualifying session to determine the grid placings. Drivers will be allowed a single outlap followed by ONE flying lap to set a grid time. After completing your flying lap please pull off the track and ESC to pits to keep the track clear.
A Restart will only be called ONCE for each race and will only apply to Lap 1 incidents. If there is a multi car incident on Lap 2 then tough luck!! These are long races and a certain amount of caution should be used.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

I was following Eric and Philippe when, after 10 laps, the engine of my Ferrari seemed to work with 6 cyl instead of 12.

I raced 15 laps more for the championship (half distance rule) and I hope I have not disturbed any driver !

  Challenging track, very tired, neck pain, few drivers!
I think it was a race of ups and downs. A good fight with Farina, waiting for an error that happened in the middle of the race followed by a lot of consent to stay ahead.
  But running 90 minutes with few drivers is not very motivating.
  Congratulations to the podium, they were in another dimension !!!

Congratulations Andy and Fulvio,
I was a bit late at practice, and in the end not pleased with my result - but that was not important here, because even I had a good start I had no chance against the two Ferrari and the Lotus anyway.
I am already looking forward to Zeltweg and Monza ;)
Fulvio and Andy made a good job, great teamwork ;) and drove very constantly.
In lap 26 Fulvio made a little mistake, so I had my one and only chance to pass.
I close the gap to Andy in about 7 laps and had to wait again. This time there were only 14 laps to go ;)
So I had to be satisfied with the 2nd place.
Shame that not more drivers would have fun with long distance fighting, even here they all have a good physical condition! :)
We need really full GPs!
Sorry for your engine troubles Dave and Alain, I can feel that very well – don‘t forget mine in Kyalami and Wiesbaden.
Bloody 67 cars.

Well done Uli. You were the better driver. I had the better car and track position and did just enough to stay in front.
Thanks to Fulvio for holding Uli back for over half the race.
I dreaded T1 every lap, but endured it 47 times. I had a very quick spin in the corner before the hairpin after about 15 laps, losing only about two seconds. Otherwise I concentrated on keeping concentrated. I understand it is hard to be motivated to drive for 90 minutes if a lot of it is on an empty track, but I really enjoy it, always checking pribluda for changing gaps. This wasn't the case in this race for me, my mirrors were always busy.
It seems that I am competitive on the original Papyrus tracks, but not at all on the others. My goal will be to finish all the races.

Hard race for me last night, I was back home from a long trekking all day, beatiful sunny day, and I was tired.
At half distance, with all those white lines, my eyes started to weep and I hardly could see the braking point for T1 so I had a couple of hairy moments and almost binned it at last lap when I touched the rail.
At the start Axel Lotus passed me easily and I passed easily Uli Cooper and all took T1 with consideration. I was surprised by Axel early crash on the first esse rail and lost a wheel. After that I had to keep at bay Uli in the twisty section trying to take advantage on the straight. Andy was ahead and I never had the chance to take his draft. When Uli Cooper lost some weight became more close in the esses and when I had a momentum he passed by easily and I never had the chance to stay with him cause my eyes weeping that made me slow down a bit.
Congrats all and commiserations for those that blew engines.

Great drive Andy to take the win and champagne :clap: :thumbup2:. Grats also to Uli and Fulvio ;D. Also well done all finishers.

I was slowly finding the pace in the Cooper and it was probably good for me to be behind Phillipe ( Lotus) and Eric ( Eagle) in the early laps. It allowed my tyres to get up to full temp before I tried, or did, something stupid  ::). After 6 laps assing them was beginning to be a problem, they were too fast on the straight but I could not find a gap in the twisty bits until Phillipe made a mistake ( sorry for clipping you, but I had no chance to avoid a sideways Lotus  :-\ ). Then I caught Eric and I think he allowed me to pass?. There was a big gap up to Jonny, but slowly I was reducing it and maybe by the end of the race I might be fighting for 4th or 5th?

I was just feeling confident and finding how to make the Cooper go quicker in certain parts when someone started a fire in my engine :taz:  :(. I considered running on slowly to 50% , but decided that a beer was more appealing and less likely to get in the way  ::). At the moment that I quit, I was surprised to have posted the fastest lap up to that point in the race ( 1:49.4). I must have been doing something right LOL!!

a lot of luck for me.
I chose the lotus by taking huge risks, because I'm a specialist in engine breakdowns!
and the lotus has the annoying reputation of breaking down often.
I was very lucky after my mistake, when evilclive hit me, the lotus went in the air, but miraculously fell back on its wheels.
what a shame for dave, see you next time.  :angel:
Congratulations to all the finishers, it was very difficult.
I hope that next year, this racing system will be kept.

Nice to read your comments, that makes it more personal :)
I also like the humor of Andy and Clive.
Once more I would like to emphasize that I enjoy this kind of raceing very much.
It is not only about speed, but also, among other things, about consistency, and being patient, being able to wait even when you are faster, is character-building ;)
I never stop learning :)

Wise words, Uli and I agree, but for some drivers the GP races are not for them.

Onto Zeltweg, another track with a nasty T1 to endure. The last time I raced there I had the roles reversed from this race. I was in the chasing Cooper close behind a Ferrari that didn't make a mistake (Hello Phil!). https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=12242#event3960 (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=12242#event3960)

This was similar to an earlier Zeltweg race in the same cars where I was beaten again by Mr. Thornton. https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=11442#event3489 (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=11442#event3489)

From those expecting to attend the Zeltweg GP race I see that Dave Rainier was in both of those races (from 2013 and 2014) and that Evil, Fulvio, Axel and Phillippe Girard attended one each. I'm glad to note that Phil isn't doing the GP races. Some laptimes there to give some idea of pace.
