Title: UKAC Season 16 - Zandvoort - Nov 25
Post by: FullMetalGasket on November 20, 2020, 01:04:47 PM +0000
(https://i.pinimg.com/originals/04/21/53/042153cd9621898ff3f52defb29530ec.jpg)

This is a repeat of the previous attempt at a race at Zandvoort - I've changed the files on the server and think I now have something that will work irrespective of whether you have the 36 pit mod or not - as this race will serve to test our ability to use the track in future races (last weeks issues were not linked to the cars in any way) it's important enough to the league to warrant a re-run.
Next week will feature a more important test of a new track (Sandevort - yes, back here again but in the 60's!) - looking through the server files there was something very odd going on with our files, so again I think I've fixed that and we should be able to run on the free version of the track. Very handly for the GPL67 mod ;)

As last time it will be a 30 minute sprint, use what ever tires you fancy! (Hards recommended)
I'd recommend using a different car to last time as it will help identify any blatant performance differences - I'll be taking the Alfa this time out.

I'm going to reduce the restrictor on the Sierra to 45% from 50% for this outing - it appeared to be a bit too slow on the straights last time.
When it runs the series will feature success ballast so I'm not too worried if the Ford has a tiny edge for now....

Password: see above

Practice: 19:30 (45 mins)
Qual: 20:15 (15 mins)
Race: 20:30  (30 mins + 1 lap)

Cars allowed:
Alfa 155 (+11Kg ballast, 10% (-42Hp) restrictor)
BMW M3 DTM (no handicap)
Ford Sierra R500 V3.03 (+20Kg Ballast, 45% restrictor (turbos don't respond the same as N/A before you ask!)
https://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/ford-sierra-cosworth-rs500-pack.24027/ (https://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/ford-sierra-cosworth-rs500-pack.24027/)
Mercedes 190E DTM (+6Kg ballast, 1% (-6.3Hp) restrictor.

The above handicapping brings everything to roughly 2.7Kg/Hp apart from the Ford - as it's Turbocharged, it has epic torque and is faster than it should be - providing the mod team got their figures right.

I shall be able to turn up. Have you got a fixed number of cars available on the server or do I need to specify a car beforehand?

I think there are 5 of each without looking so you should be OK - I won't be assigning cars for a fun race (It's still possible to loose your car even then, if enough random people turn up before you and use all of the car type you want).
It is helpful if people post what they intend to drive in advance, that allows me to adjust numbers if needed should everyone decide they want to drive the same car.
It also helps other people choose in some cases :)

I won't turn in for this race, and I must say I probably won't do the series neither because I don't like so much the car set and to save a bit of free time.
Have fun guys !

Medium tires were definitely a mistake. By the end of the race I was 2+ seconds off my pace. Also last three places in the results, all medium tires :)
At least I had a interesting last lap with much faster Kimi on my tail. I think we went side by side from chicane entrance to last corner exit. He had bit better run out of the last corner as he was on the outside to just beat me to the finish line.

Nice race, although a bit lonely compared to the last outing. :)
The diff settings Fabri suggested after the race had a big impact on driveability, as i did two test laps and went half a second faster with it. I thought those setting would not be driveable, but I was proven wrong.
Now it is a nice car to drive around here.

Do we already have enough nice German tracks to do a series? I know it wasn't part of the original calender, but can we consider Oschersleben as I think it will be fun in these cars.

Past few days I did some laps for training and do a race setup, but I tested only the hard tyres. When yesterday I tryed to use the softs and mediums in qual., the car was terrible to drive. Maybe it was too stiffen and tyres temp went too high.

In race things went much better and I knew I had a pace of low .49. After a small mistake by Tim (who was fooling around), I was able to make a bit of gap and manage it to the end.

At Zandvoort the best choice are the hards for sure.
