Season 37 MIXED OPEN WHEEL – Round 9 –  Goodwood ‘65

SPECIAL NOTICE – there are 24 registered drivers for this series, although maximum attendance has been below 20. Unlikely anyone will miss a race. Can RESERVE DRIVERS wait until 9pm UK to join the server. Full time drivers can join when the server opens.

The Mixed Open Wheel series in which we will be using cars from 1965, 1966, 1967 (F2) & the newly released 1968 mod. Drivers entering this series must select a manufacturer group & keep to that group for the whole season. Where more than one chassis is allocated to the group you can select any car. Pro / Works standard drivers cannot use Group 8 or Group 9.

For Round 9 we use the 1967 Formula 2 cars. As originally announced we will use the Goodwood circuit. Most GPL regulars will know that earlier this year Ginetto released a beautifully remodelled version of the Goodwood track. Unfortunately the new version suffered a numbered of ‘Crash to Desk Tops’ during fun races. The good news is there is an update file to improve the stability – successfully tested last week. The link to the track down load includes the additional file – added on 18 November.

There were lots of freezes and CTDs in the first test races,
so Ginetto made this patch http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=13395 (bottom of 1st post)
after using this, I never had any problems  ;)

The event is running and I've not been assigned a license so I can't see the password... D: Can anyone who can see this help?

Couldn't concentrate enough to keep the car on the road tonight - a huge pity as this is one of my favourite tracks.

I'm really sorry, Pete, I ruined your race.
I went back on the track at the wrong time, I was disturbed by the fastest drivers.
my apologies.

So as I was in a rush to join the server, I didn't thank whoever it was for making the password visible to me, thank you so much; I perhaps should've registered a bit earlier... ^^
Still I had more than enough time to set a good lap and I would say I sort of managed to accomplish that, there was one occasion where I was impeded on a very good lap, and I also remember who it was, but let me tell you: no worries, things like these happen and I could see that it didn't happen because of a lack of awareness. :)
P7 it was which was more than good enough to go places in this race. So I checked my setup again in the last 30 seconds and somehow I thought: "Hmm, was this the right setup? There's another setup called "race", let's take a look... Wait, wrong fuel load, add some more liters".. and so it happened that I didn't realize that this setup was different, though not entirely bad, but a lot more oversteery under braking which hindered my consistency by quite a bit in hindsight.
So as the flag drops, I'm trying to get some rotation into my rear wheels... and lose the revs because the first gear was totally inappropriately set up. Lost a few positions, but kept a cool head and soon I had gotten some positions back (did you lose it on your own, Andreas? I couldn't think of a valid reason why we should have touched, yet I was sad to see you have a spin :( ). Being in P7, Tristan spun in front of me, leaving me with a free road up ahead of me; next up was Doni. So as I managed to catch him slowly, but steadily, there was this one lap where in the last corner, a wasp appeared out of nowhere and interrupted my field of view which distracted me - spin.
Before the spin it seemed like I was a little bit quicker than Tristan, but as I fell back directly behind him, our pace became more and more even, eventually up to the point where the pace advantage shifted in his favour. We both had our little offs here and there, resulting in several position changes, but after my last spin I fell back 8 seconds behind him and from then on he completely had the edge over me while keeping it consistent. So congratulations to you, Tristan, for winning this hard-fought battle, you were the better driver today.
Thank you everyone for the good racing, it was a pleasure to be on track with all of you today. Commiserations especially to Uli for his disco, and also to Phil who had a good race up for grabs (but sadly couldn't convert it into a good result) and to the rest of the non-finishers and generally unlucky racers.
See you next time!

Hi Philippe,

No worries  ;D

I was pleased with my Q10 on the grid but then made a terrible start as my 1st gear was all wrong. Great for the chicane but too low for a quick start; Note to self... practise starts before next round.

I then fell off the track a couple of times after making silly mistakes. After I hit you, I hope I didn't put anyone else off as I wobbled around on the grass like an upturned turtle. Anyway, I'm always really happy just to finish so please don't worry about what happened on lap 17.

See you next time.

Pete

Sure here the Pole position has made the job bit easier as overtaking is not easy in this track
First part of the race with an eye on Hoffman and Alain back of me but one their mistake gave me the advancare that permitted me to drive with relative tranquility
Displeasure for Hoffam's disco in the last laps when was 2°

For the race I used the patch but no problem with at all for me in this track with or without patch in the past days
See you next

What the hell was that? FREEZE with CTP!!!
I never ever spend so much time with beta testing like I do for Goodwood65 and what is the result?
Until that it was a comfortable race, no chance to hold Alessandro – great speed!  :thumbup1:
Alain was a bit faster but his mistakes always gave me time for a deep breath and just when the final battle for 2nd place starts > DISCO! < what a pity, so we will never know if the 0,1 to 0,2 sec would have been enough for position change ;)
Grats podium and to Tristan for taking the lead even it’s this way, that’s motorsport.
Very nice to see that full grid! Hope you all have had much fun. ;D

On Lap 1 i crashed when i avoided another car.
working my way back to the midfield on my own with that car impossible (is it the base for the 2020 Ferrari ? :) )

Last i got 9th after David needed to stop and go after an incident last lap, i guess ?

Yes I was stuck in a wall on the last lap or the lap before.

Sorry again to Dave Curtis, my car spun due to a wheel on grass (grass always wet in England !!) and we collided. No trouble for my car but I think you had to reset...  :(

On Lap 1 i crashed when i avoided another car.

Almost forgot about that one. I feel really sorry for this scene since it definitely wouldn't have occured had I chosen the right setup, but the unexpected oversteer under braking really caught me off guard. :( At that time I had not even been on the brakes even once with this setup, so I really had to play guessing games when trying to anticipate the car's behaviour.

Good evening everyone

Well done Alessandro, untouchable with the McLaren, my favorite car in this mod.
Sorry Uli for your disconnection, at times your car disappears, maybe the reason for the disco which took place after.
I was not faster but had the advantage of suction.

In the end I am therefore 2nd, precious points to remain 3rd in the general classification because Alessandro is coming back strong with this great victory.

Well done to Doni and all the pilots too.

Thank you for the organization and see you soon

Yeah, lost it myself. Wanted to be a nice guy and let you through and leave you as much place as possible. That let me slip on the grass.  :( Next time I will be more racy and fight harder.  :fencing: But anyway you were the faster of us.  :thumbup1: So on to the nextone.
Congratulations to the Podium and all.  :thumbup2:
