Title: UKAC Season 16 - Zandvoort - Dec 2
Post by: FullMetalGasket on November 27, 2020, 02:21:10 PM +0000
As it is pretty much a must for classics I want to try again with Sandevort - from looking at the server files it may have failed previously because the wrong files were in the server. I now have the correct ones there so we will hopefully have more success.
I've picked the 250GTO as it's a stock car from the right period and therefore can't be the cause if we run into problems.

Track: Sandevoerde (Classic Zandvoort)
I can't find the file for the free trial anywhere so have uploaded it here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/4fk9ysoyk2ui3zz/sandev_f3ct_TEST250917.rar?dl=0 (https://www.dropbox.com/s/4fk9ysoyk2ui3zz/sandev_f3ct_TEST250917.rar?dl=0)
If you have the payware version you will need to back it up and delete it from your tracks folder - then install the free version above and all should work, I don't believe the 2 versions can exist side-by-side although feel free to try if you like.

If it turns out we all have the paid version then we'll use that in the future.

what a fantastic version of this track this is, it deserves to be bought from the creators 8) The detail is superb and track surface feels spot on. Out of interest what does the free version  miss from the pay version? Pit complex?

Only did one lap to see what it looked like and to check I could get online. The 250's look and feel great on it too.  :)

The free version has no scenery and no options for the track surface - the track surface obviously has to match the server to get online so that simplifies things greatly!

Glad I seem to have 'fixed' our problem from the last attempt.
I'll see if I can add a poll to this thread to see who owns it - failing that I'll make a new one somewhere else and link to it, I would also much rather drive the proper version if I can

Very interesting proposition Tim. I think I'll join this race if you would have me.

No luck getting this track to work must be corrupt.

No luck getting this track to work must be corrupt.

You should find it : "60s Sandervoerde". If you only type Sandervoerde in the search you won't find it for some reasons.

It's a terrific combo Tim !  :tt1:

Quite a dangerous track of course though.  :angel-wings:

Another problem for me is that I can't find the server for some reasons. Is it still up right now ?

Strange - both nights were running on the Srou server, but neither were showing.
I've just restarted the Wednesday server and it's now showing - although I've just noticed I left the name in from last week ::)

Try again folks :)

Just an update for anyone who hasn't looked at S-tracker. The server was reset last night and loads of people managed to get on fine - if you haven't tried it yet now's your chance.

I'll try and keep an eye on the forum in case of more issues, but have an ACC race tonight so won't be about - all my practice will have to be on the night!

Hi Tim, everyone. I acquired AC Ultimate pack for £6 over the weekend. It's all new to me, but this race appeals with the friendly 250GTO and the old Zandy layout from GPL. I have found my way to the server and I hope I can join in tomorrow.

I use paddles and don't have a clutch pedal. I don't know if I should have auto clutch and auto blip on or off. They don't seem to make much difference so far at my level. I see I can hurt the engine downshifting too early with auto clutch off, but the 250GTO seems to take any abusive upshifting or holding the revs very high. I haven't done enough laps yet to see the engine will break like they do in GPL. I have been in Pro with all aids off. I expect the server will force those parameters on me?

I can't see any mirrors in the default cockpit position. I have the virtual mirror on and have installed helicorsa. Is there anything else I need to do?

Good luck Andy.

As someone else who uses paddles you have to time the revs close to the limiter so it doesn't bounce off it. You do need to manually blip the throttle but if you get it wrong the auto-clutch will do it aggressively. If you spin without autoclutch you will stall it.

Hi Andy, welcome to the New World ;D
AC does have a damage model that will allow engines/gearboxes to blow, but it's sadly not as good as the one in GPL.

My understanding of how the server works is that if I allow an aid then it is available if the client wants/needs it.
Most, if not all drivers with H-shifters and clutches will turn off stuff like auto clutch as it's unhelpful for us.

I take it from your comment you've managed to actually get on the server? I won't be around tonight to help out - but provided I have advance warning I can try and help you tomorrow  :)

Thanks for the advice - I will have the auto blip and clutch turned off.
I have done laps on the server and can see the race password.
See you all tomorrow and I will see how it goes.

Bloody nightmare tonight  :( joined at 7.45 thinking nice half hour to get used to the track and get my eye in, but nooo a nice windows update fubared my flipping controllers. 3 pc restarts and 4 try’s at configuring my controls and half hour wasted  :taz:
Just got in time for qually but with no idea on setup at short notice, thankfully Tim mentioned 5th gear as I didn’t even know it had 5th  :P and had my ratio long for 4th to last the straight
By race start I still didn’t know how to attack that final corner and duly spun twice there in the early laps  ::)
Once I got that out my system I was able to do regular 1.40 times but I had an 8 sec gap to the top 7.  :( After another late spin I gave up as nobody left to race as all the back end drivers had retired, so I parked it.
Nice combo of car and track, if I could have enjoyed a race I would have loved it but everything  conspired against me tonight.

Terrible race for a terrible car. Make sense.

I sort of enjoyed that. Everything seemed to work ok. I just missed dipping below 1.40 in practice, qualy and the race. I was very wary of other cars at the start - tight grid and didn't know how aggressive the driving might be here. So keen to avoid anything, I forgot to follow the track and went off in lap2, luckily not collecting anyone and ended up nose down in a ditch. I didn't know the etiquette here, but I escaped to the pits, where my controls were frozen for 30 secs. In that time, the field came by and I could set off a lap down. I hope that was ok to do.
I was near Mark on track, but a lap down, so I kept getting blue flags after he spun and I passed him. I let him past and followed for a while until he spun again. All was quiet until Tim came along near the end and lapped me again. Well done on the win, Tim, different class here.
I think if I didn't have my early mishap I would still have finished last of those still running. Time passed very quickly.

Welcome here at the AC corner Andy. You seem to have a decent pace, just to bad of the small mistakes.

I knew I had some kind of a setup from the previous series with the GTO and it was ok around here. Not really comfy to drive up until the end with less fuel. Had a few nice scraps in the beginning of the race, after that I was on my own for the rest of the race. Luckily it is a nice combo to be driving on you own.

Catch you all next week. (or this sunday with the TCR's)

I eventually decided to make the video although it is not very exciting...

Beautiful track and car anyway and fantastic handling despite Fabri's blasphemies yesterday (we won't tell Enzo).

After five laps no brakes whatsoever, time to clean pedals!

Do enjoy watching your vids Jos  8) love that you have a wheel for almost any car type. That looks like a Nardi wood rim, very swish and spot on for an old car like this  :) Can see it makes a difference how it slides through your hands giving more natural steeing input/feel.
