Season 37 - SC67 - Alfa vs Porsche Cup – Round 9 - Monza67

New date because of the power outage

We will stay in Italy and use the good "new" Monza 1967 track made by Ginetto
INFO:
This track replaces the original version using a more accurate layout and a better set of textures and objects.
Built in a one year period using objects from John Basara and textures from Thomas Laechele made originally for Monza 10k.
With help of the Team, we then modified or scratch made new objects and new textures.

Please check the Season 37 details (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=1102&theme=6) regarding rules and the Alfa vs Porsche Cup pages (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=1122&theme=6) in particular.

  • Alfa T33 = 23 gallons (87 litres)
  • Porsche = 24 gallons (91 litres)

Snow at Monza   I didn't expect that.

I've just checked, the altitude is 161m and average weather is 2 degrees C in January. So shouldn't be surprised but I suppose I've not just not got used to the idea that winter is nearly here :'(

Freeze for me for about 5-10 seconds. When the game came back, I was already crashed with someone (or even more people) crashed as well.
Big apologies to everyone involved, because it ruined some races, I guess. :(

Definitely not able for me to race at this track. Rare moments when I had 60 fps, even lowering the resolution and details

Welcome back Axel, glad the lights are back on!

Personally I'm OK with a rerun next Friday. If I can manage a repeat of the early laps of this race I will be very happy, it was great fun!

The fuel consumption was a little higher than expectet - I had 36 liter left.

Sorry Clive and Tris for my bad braking, Even though it was great fun.

Lasse, für den Alfa gibts den virtuellen Spiegel im Unterordner
GPL/cars/carsSC/alfa/VIRTUAL_MIRROR/ - den ins Verzeichnis kopieren. Dann siehst mich... aber no problem ;)

Well, now that was awesome!

Without any real setup knowledge about the GT's (except knowing that the Porsche would have been the better choice, but as I had to race both cars once, there was no choice), I spent all of qualifying changing tyre pressures up and down and up until I eventually found a good compromise... Came down the grid order as time progressed, but on my very last lap I got a whole lap of slipstream which changed everything and gave me P4...

Had a good start going past 1 car, slotted in P3 or P4 I think behind Clyve, Tristan and Axel while also frequently exchanging positions with Alain. This constellation stayed consistent until Clyve and Tristan collided, forming a gap between me and Axel who from now were the only cars directly fighting for the lead. But somehow Tristan managed to catch all of that back up and turned it into a three-way scrap. At one point I got a punt by Tristan in the rear, sending me flying into the wall at Curva Grande, which didn't damage the car though, and also only cost me a second which I obviously caught back up within no time given the nature of the car-track-splistream combo.
Then a few laps later I moved towards the inside before Lesmo 1, doing a bit of a dummy on Tristan, but I was never gonna really send it. Yet he broke late, seemingly lost the rear and from then on I never saw him again in pribluda... :(
So now here were only me and Axel left since the next group of cars were about 600 meters or something similar back, and well, it was a really good battle up until a point where I've got to watch the replay back, yet it was most likely my fault and I knew that from the moment it happened. We both went airbourne, and when I landed, I tried to continue without resetting to realize that the engine was broken, so I had to stop again to take the reset... Which cost me a lot in the end, I could've remained at the top in the battle with Axel, but now I had to slot in behind the Porsches of Alain, Phil and Clyve.. Alain managed to break away from the group, then Clive somehow made contact with Phil and so Phil and I fought for the last podium position. An epic, awesome and fair battle which you deservedly won in the end, Phil. I was handicapped because of the fuel load after the reset, but nonetheless you drove so well and especially clean when being wheel to wheel. After your little mistake at Parabolica in the penultimate lap I thought I might have had you, but to make a comeback on the backstraight like that surely deserves a P3.
Well done to all the finisher and special congrats to Axel, Alain and Phil for the first three places, and commiserations to Tristan, Doni and Mark.
But most importantly thank you to everyone for such a spectacular race with so many battles, overtakes and a high driving standard, it was a pleasure once again.

Well that was a rare occasion when the sequel was better than the epic original! I got a bad start and lost a couple of places off the line. By the third lap I'd got the places back but I'd lost the tow to the bunch in front and so I thought my race was done. However I pressed on as I watched the bunch gradually ease away. After a few laps there was a crash at the entry to Parabolica and that was my chance to catch up. The rest of the race was very hectic, lots of close racing and overtaking between me, Evil, Lasse and Alain. I'm not sure but I think Doni and Fulvio joined us at one point. The fight between me and Lasse allowed Alain to get ahead and once he had broken the tow, he was gone in an effort to chase down Axel. The race turned into a 3 way fight when Evil caught us. At one point me and Evil were side-by-side from Serraglio all the way around Parabolica and the Curva Grande until Lesmo 1 when I inched ahead. At that point Evil crashed out (I could almost hear the Bristolian expletives from up in Lancashire). From then on it was a battle with Lasse for the final podium spot. I thought I'd blown it when I clipped the grass on the exit of Parabolica on the penultimate lap and almost lost the car (that was one of my best ever saves). But bizarrely it probably helped me. The gap to Lasse was enough to give me a perfect tow all the way around the last lap to Rettifilio Centrale and I overtook him on the approach to Parabolica, grabbing third place and the fastest lap in the process! Great racing Lasse.

Grats to my Team mate Axel on the win!

Congratulations Phil, you are the Privateers champion, now !
I could only try to stay 2nd after Laguna Seca.

For me, setup ...and driver were very bad ! I could only follow Fulvio and Doni during a few laps at the begin of the race.
But quickly, I lost the tow and the race was over.

I don't like the fast tracks (or they don't like me ?) and at Monza I was 2 seconds a lap slower than anybody else !

Merci beaucoup David, you won the MixedOW Privateers and I won the SCx Privateers. A fitting end to an exciting and competitive season. I always have good races with you but this season has been particularly close. Hopefully next season will be as much fun.

Yes, that was an epic race with never a quiet moment.

I must apologise to Tristan and to Axel, and possibly to Doni as well. There were 3 incidents in the race where I think I suffered from warp contact?? The first one was when I was slipstreaming Axel towards Parabolica and from my monitor his car momentarily stopped  :scared: There was no feeling of any contact, but my car simply swerved across the track and collected Tristan who was not able to avoid my Porker.  I landed on my wheels and continued but the car was down on top speed, I might have been better taking a reset?
Later there was the close racing with Phil as he described, and again in Lesmo my car responded like it had been hit?? but although I have not watched a replay, I don't think Phil was that close.
Then later in the race, my Blue Moose team mate Doni, used the tow and got alongside in the braking zone for Parabolica, somewhere that I knew I could go deep. I was trying to hold a straight line down the outside and I know that I did not stray from the tarmac, but again there was a "phantom bump" and my car wobbled. I suspect that there was contact with Doni which took him out of the race?? but again I am not sure until I look at the replay.

Sorry to anyone who suffered after my gremlins got involved. But thanks to everyone for some epic racing. Maybe we could have a whole series of races at Monza in these cars with the winner getting an extra 25 litres of fuel for the next race lol.

I've looked at the server replay. There was very minor contact between my rear nearside and your front offside but since you were on the outside I suspect the warp you are talking about exacerbated the contact. It would be interesting to compare your client replay with the server replay. I would expect your client to show me drifting left more than my client or the server shows.

I'm mad at myself, I made a good time for the start, but just before the parabolic, I forgot to brake.  :cursing: :cursing:
what a jerk.  :censored: :censored:
I'm restarting last, and I'm starting to get close to a good group of 5 people, including Fulvio.
sorry fulvio, i bumped you again, but i think the context was right.
it's very difficult to overtake at monza.

Bravo Phil for the championship.
and bravo at the BCB team... :balloon: :balloon: :balloon:

High time that I got caught up on some of our recent races.  Sorry for the delay, chaps.

Congratulations to Axel on a fine victory!  Well done to both Alain and Phil for nailing down podium placings.

The Monza re-run was going great guns for me and I was really enjoying the race.  It came to a very sudden, premature end, though, when I lost control under braking for the Parabolique and ended up speared on the inner guardrail.  OUCH!  I believe that the front end slewed a bit on heavy braking and that I side-swiped Clive.  Thank heavens that he was able to absorb the nudge and continue.  In hindsight...always 20-20, right?..., I should have waited for the front straight before making a bid to pass.
