Post by: Billy Nobrakes on December 05, 2020, 10:55:02 PM +0000
Season 37 MIXED OPEN WHEEL – Round 10 –  Hockenheim

SPECIAL NOTICE – there are 25 registered drivers for this series, although maximum attendance has been below 20. Unlikely anyone will miss a race. Can RESERVE DRIVERS wait until 9pm UK to join the server. Full time drivers can join when the server opens.

The Mixed Open Wheel series in which we will be using cars from 1965, 1966, 1967 (F2) & the newly released 1968 mod. Drivers entering this series must select a manufacturer group & keep to that group for the whole season. Where more than one chassis is allocated to the group you can select any car. Pro / Works standard drivers cannot use Group 8 or Group 9.

For the final round another chance to use the latest addition to the GPL stable, 1968 F1 (Early). If you don’t have this mod, go to this site http://68f1.gplworld.de/downloads.htm
Save Download 1 & Download 3 - you will need them both. Follow the installation instructions & select the 68 car sets in GEM.

The track was originally called "Dreieckskurs" (triangle course) and was built in 1932 using roads in the forest as an alternative to the Wildpark-Circuit in Karlsruhe. The track was used for motorcycle racing and was expanded to be used as test track for Mercedes-Benz and Auto Union in 1936. In 1965, an updated version of Hockenheim circuit was built, which incorporated a new "Motodrom" stadium section. Two fast chicanes were added after Jim Clark was killed on 7 April 1968 in a Formula 2 racing accident.  A small memorial was placed at the site of his accident near the first chicane. In order to improve safety even further, the track was lined with crash barriers in 1970.

Damn! I had to abandon the race. I got a terrible start as I was bogged down in 1st gear. I thought that was a bit odd as I'd practised this after making this mistake at Goodwood in the F2s. I was then flat out at 150mph on the main straight (curve) as my throttle had re-calibrated itself. I have Clubsport V1 pedals and they've never been a problem but I guess that it's time to clean the hall-sender unit. Sorry to have missed out on this last race but I'll be back for 2021. I'll also choose a quicker car. The Eagle is pretty but seems to lack any grunt. Hopefully Alain enjoyed his Eagle until the end. See you all soon.

Pete

Sorry Axel and other drivers behind, I made a very big mistake at the braking point before the stadium on first lap.
I braked where I usually did in training but when overtaking Bastian I put a wheel on the grass and my car spun.

Sorry I have no excuse at all !

Hope everything goes well for Phil Thornton who missed the race.

Sorry for the touch Doni but i was surprised by the low speed into the curve. In the last 5 laps my car have lost speed,on straight no more than 288 Km/h but i have mantained the position.I was very lucky to avoid a lot of incident in front of me,particularly the one between Doni and Fulvio.

A rare and stupid mistake by me, I got my times mixed up and missed the race. It looks like Dave Curtis or Axel stepped in and provided a server, thank you. That makes you the Privateers champion David, congratulations it has been a hard fought and fun season!

NP David,
these cars have a crazy tow up to 400m and if you are braking hard in back of another car, it happens the force of the tow is more than the brakes - same bug in 65s but they are not such fast ...

My car was bent and I had to retire  ::)

Strange evening for me, I don't know what's happened but after qualy I have not the green button for race  :(
Usually there is 30 sec. circa for that but I can't race at all

I saw my replay and after the start of the group I can to start from my pit place, but the Pribdula rank show me that I was lapped.. but it's impossible that, and when I reached up the group and I did some overtaking I was lapped again  :o
So I continued with my race and finished 8th, for pribdula not for me  :D

Alessandro

I just checked the grid from the server, there is no fault in the track.ini (it's from 2012! some races driven...)

Tell me who you passed last -  so wich position you had at the end. To add the lost lap is no problem.

Axel, there's no problem for final result
I am just curious to know why happened this and if it's happened similar things in the past to someone, because it's very strange

The only problem with this tack it's that when I am in the replay mode this goes for a while, then it stops and when i click something the game crash.. and I have saw this yesterday also
My track is just "base" with no other graphics update

Alessandro your pit was after s/f line so you were a lap down since the start. I think you finished 3rd actually.
Fo me two crashes at the enter of motodrome, first one I was behind Dave that had already caught me with an early braking the lap before so I adapted my braking to not risk, but rocket  :alien: Tris came very fast drafting me and he was caught off, trying to avoid me he got sideway and clipped me, racing incident IMO.
Second crash with Doni, I was aware too late that he was passing me and didn't keep right hand so we touched and crashed collecting cars coming, sorry guys.
I thought to have lost a wheel in the process, but then I could restart on 4 wheel, the engine was smoking though  :'(
Rejoining I saw Doni stuck on the barrier so I gave him a little pat to free him. Indeed he was free but he stopped at pit soon after, Doni  ???
Engine survived till the end but I was lapped twice I think.
On replay I saw many drivers struggling with brakes that suddenly unbalance the car, I found that on this carsis more safe braking gradually  that stomp hard on the brakes.
Thx mods for the interesting season, I hope that more fast drivers have a look to slower cars like Alessandro if we repeat this season.  ;)

There is a problem with a camera that goes crazy while in motodrome. I think someone have done a fix for that.

Oh, the base track with no updates was faulty!!!

When I startet online in 2011 I remember we had big problems with the then new GTs here.

I had just postet my complete perfect Hockenheim  Folder at SRMZ, get it there http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=13735&#entry151873

But I really need the position you crossed the line in real, please.

Then, to clarify I just saw replay of race and nothing strange apart the start, and I crossed the finish line by 18 seconds circa from Uli
I never used this version so don't knew past problems with track, simply when i tried in the past days all works, except some random CTD after replay view
Thanks for info

But important is say thanks to you and the organizers all for work and for this "strange" formula of championship  :thumbup1: :thumbup1: :thumbup1:

First congratulations to the championship to you both Tristan and David!!! :thumbup2:
I injoyed this special championship very much, driving so much different cars – great idea – with pleasure once more. Big THX to our Admins!

Congratulation Tristan and Philipp and all finishers of the wildest and craziest race of the season!

Thanks to slipstream I made super pole in the first run. After my cautious start Tristan overtook me on the straight but I fight back and then Tristan gets on the green inside to the Ostkurve an shoot me out when he come back to the track. Normal my race should have been over here and for a moment I thought about giving up - these 68 cars are incredible solid – when I come back to the tack I saw a lot of other drivers in trouble. At the end of lap 1, last corner, I had a collision with teamie Axel - even if I was faster, on the inside and in front – in this curve you simply do not overtake - BIG SRY Axel :notworthy:  I can understand that you didn't like to go on.
Anyway, what I had seen some seconds before and later on - hair-raising - our collision was one of the harmless kind, have a look at the replay!

We absolutely have to go back to Hockenheim as soon as possible. There is still a lot to learn for many of us - including me!

After my first chase to catch up, Doni shot me out in lap 5 (Ostkurve) and in lap 8 I was too fast in this bend. After that a constant, beautiful catch up race began. Lap 9, you know it, before the Ostkurve, a close manoeuvre went well, because Andreas and Francesco reacted perfectly. So I learned again to understand the different drivers and their cars and came just at the right time into the slipstream of Tristan to catch him on the brakes going into the Motodrom last lap!

Fine to make the RA 301 a winning car with sometimes more than 12000 RPM!

I wish you all a happy new year.
Looking forward to 2021 :)
