Season 38 – 1967 F1 PRIVATEERS – Round 2 – Montjuich Park

For the 2nd round we go to Montjuich Hill near Barcelona.
A twisty, tricky, street circuit, it was the site of the tragic 1975 Spanish Grand Prix. Many drivers felt that the circuit was unsafe, and two time world champion Emerson Fittipaldi withdrew in protest before the start of the race. On lap 26 the Embassy Hill-Lola car of Rolf Stommelen left the track, killing five people. The race was subsequently stopped at half distance and half points awarded, with Jochen Mass being recorded as the winner. Lella Lombardi became the first female driver to score world championship points, taking 0.5 points for 6th place. Formula One never returned to the circuit after the accident.

Please, excepting emergencies, no chat until Session Completed in qualification. No chat in the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

The Intermediate damage model will be used.
Drivers are only allowed ONE reset.

This series is a joint championship with GPLBrasil so, please, read carefully these new and specific rules :

Drivers will have a FREE CHOICE of chassis however, a bonus of 50 championship points will awarded to each driver that uses all 7 chassis.

To qualify for bonus points, each chassis should be used at least once and no chassis can be used more than twice.

A bonus point will be awarded for pole position.

A bonus point will be awarded for the fastest lap.

Any driver who uses the same chassis more than twice will not be awarded any bonus points.

A driver must cross the start line in order to register the use of a chassis, participation in qualifying is not sufficient.

It is not necessary to use 7 different chassis for the first 7 races.
However at the end of the season, all 7 chassis must have been used to qualify for the bonus points.

Points will be allocated from 1st to 12th as follows: 20, 15, 12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
Drivers must complete 75% race distance to score.
All rounds count towards the driver's championship.

For each race, only the top two drivers from each team count towards team championship.
All rounds count towards team championship.

Drivers are reminded that Lap 1 incidents do carry an extra 1 place penalty.

Only reported incidents will be moderated.

Just  tried a few laps on UKGPL10

Woeful connection , less than 30 fps in places and nowhere on track came close to being  60 fps  :'(

Looks like none runner for me if its the same tonight  ::)

anyone else having issues or is it just me ?

Have you tried the Works server (UKGPL04)?

If it is the same, try reducing the "Detail Bias" in the GPL Options -> Graphics menu.

I've just tried UKGPL10. I got a solid 60fps. I suggest you reduce your graphics settings Bernie. Better to have less detail and a solid 60fps.

Just wondering, do you have the latency meters showing on-screen?  If so, does switching them off (ALT-M) make any difference to the frame rate?
(With some recent testing from my machine to other servers, I was getting a lot of 30FPS but switching that off seemed to help.  However, further testing with either on/off did not seem to make any difference & further testing still indicated 60FPS).

Otherwise, in the monjuic69 folder there should be a zipped file of some options.  Including turning off the fountains & lower-resource horizon/sky in case that helps?  Just copy the files from the zipped file to the track folder.

- in NVidia settings not performance but high quality is set?

Else GPL isn't able to wake up your overpowered CPU and GPU and lets them sleep in eco mode...

I have programme called " GeForce Experience ", nothing else , there is no option to alter the settings you mention  ???

Bernie, you need to set the graphics options against each GPL exe individually or as Axel says, your graphics card will ignore GPL and go to sleep.

Phil , Ive seen that on your other post somewhere , but i dont have it on my puter . the only thing I can find is that stupid geforce experience thing which afaict auto loads the latest gameware drivers from a list . there is no option ( well none I can find ) to choose GPL .

Yes that is all it does because modern games handle all the 3D settings themselves. GPL is very old so we have to set up the graphics manually, otherwise the graphics card ignores GPL.

Are you on Windows 10, Windows 7 or Linux?

You have GeForce Experience so you must have an Nvidia card so you will have Nvidia Control Panel. If you are on Windows 10 just type "Nvidia Control Panel" in the search window at the bottom left of your desktop and Windows 10 will find it for you.

I just found an w10 app "settings" thing , the graphics were set at default , ive re set the 3 exe's 55, 66 and 67 to HQ , need to check on line and see if there is a diference .

What I dont understand is my GPL is A1 off line with full graphics on , why just Mt Juich 69 online , I have had issues with other tracks but nothing as bad as this

GPL is such lightweight with old low specs mods and tracks, that CPU+GPU power even in their deep sleeping mode is enough!

BUT

New tracks + mods need more power and if you let them sleep you get framedrops.

So you must set them manually in a high power state ;)

PS
GPL uses only a single of your 12 CPU cores
so only the V12 in full speed runs gpl ok online - with tracing and calculating the actions of real humans instead of stupid AI!

My apologies to Dulima. I was going slow for the first turn but clearly no enough, locked the wheels end he had nowhere to go and I took him out.

After dodging the lap 1 turn one acco I chased Policardi for a few laps until we came together at the infamous T1hairpin when I T boned the Ferrari and watched it disitergrate into a thousand pieces before my eyes , when the dust had settled I got the dreaded sound of silence as I realised my finest Maserati Motori had gone West . I sat for a while admiring my handywork then had the sudden thought that using S/R might be a good idea . off we went almost a lap down now and wondering weather to carry on or not ,then realised I had to do a Pit in to account for my sins , promptly missed the pit entrance and thought OK get you 2nd time around , then hey ho missed it again , 3rd time I made sure to do the regulatory pit stop and re join , then it was just a matter of seeing how many would drop out to give me a points finish .

Not sure I was entirely to blame for this but I will send an incedent report in claiming insanity as my defence and let the moderators decide suitable compensation for the injured parties  ::)   

 

Phil , where to get this guide from ?  the link seems incomplete and difficult to read !

I wrote it myself, saved it as a PDF file and shared it via my Google drive. OK I understand that bit , but the question is where do I find the files to alter ? none on my PC , at least none there that I can find .
I was hoping your link would point to wherever those files ( or is it called "AP" these days  ) are hidden on Wn10 ?

I've looked in settings and could change stuff in there but the only options are to have high performance , default or power save .

I'm thinking  the settings files has been changed with win10 update stuff 

The easiest way to find the NVIDIA Control Panel in Windows 10 is to type NVIDIA in the search bar. See screenshot below. You should then be able to click on the NVIDIA Control Panel icon to run it and then follow the instructions in the PDF.

If you can't find the NVIDIA Control Panel, are you sure you have an NVIDIA card?

Search for and open "Device Manager". Your graphics card will be listed under "Display adaptors"

Right click on screen gives a menue where you get the NVidia settings.

That is the instruction in the PDF but he says it's not there ???

it is there but not in the form you show in the PDF , completely different !!

Anyway after much experiment , huffing , puffing , two-ing and fro-ing,  I seem to have sorted it now .

I have just tried UKGPL4 Spa67 practice race and frame rates where good . not tested '10' yet

Great news Bernie!

Spa67 is very heavy on graphics so I suggest you also reduce the "Detail Bias" in the GPL Options -> Graphics menu to about 50% (for this race anyway). It will help keep the frame rate up at the start and at La Source which for some reason is heavy on the graphics. I have mine at 50% and it doesn't detract from the racing.

Sorry to say Phil - reducing the details is with Bernies 1660 super the wrong direction! It will fall asleep.

I have detail bias to 99% with my 1060! Those power GPUs have to be busy to not yawn ;)

Everything was fine for the 55 Spa race on UKGPL04 good solid 60 fps , only problem now is since following Phil's guide notes I did

"Set program to run in Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode:"

Now my I get the error message

NTLDR is missing , press any key !

PC wont boot unless I press a key , no hardship just inconvenient when I try to boot from my Hard Drive

Is there a fix for this ?

Have you got a USB storage device connected?  (or maybe a floppy in the drive :) )

Great news Bernie, the races will be enjoyable now  :thumbup2:. A bad frame rate ruins the fun.

Don't understand why this is happening (unless it is your boot priority as I think Dave is eluding to) because the compatibility mode should only affect the specific exe. Does the problem go away when you turn off the "Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode"?

Sorted thanks , changing compatabilty mode must have re set the boot order so that the PC was trying to boot from the wrong drive .

Bit of a panic when I googled the problem as the advice there was that the HDD was bad !
