Title: UKGPL Season 38 (Spring 2021) 1965 F1 Professionals - Phillip Island - Feb 9

Season 38 1965F1 – Round 3 – Professionals - Phillip Island

Phillip Island is off the south coast of Australia, about 90 miles south of Melbourne. It hosted the Australian Grand Prix between 1928 and 1935 on a rectangle of public dirt roads. There wasn't a bridge to the island until 1940, so the cars were ferried across. The permanent Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit was opened in 1956. Unfortunately, the track surface broke up easily and the 6 ton weight limit on the bridge meant that heavy tarmac laying equipment couldn't access the island. The track deteriorated, but a new bridge opened in 1969 and the track was refurbished. It closed again, but was redeveloped in 1988 into what is still in use today. Phillip Island regularly hosts Superbikes and Australian Touring Cars (now called V8 Supercars), but never F1 cars.

If I add those 1.02 fixes to my track folder I have problems - when I start GPL and select PI it tells me 'Could Not Load The Track'. When I press OK it tells me it is 'Cancelling the Weekend'

It worked fine before I added these 1.02 files. Any ideas?

I installed the patch and I'm not getting any CTD issues.

Incidentally I had no of sounds set to 4. I've dropped that to 3.

Not loading the track tends to be season.ini problems. No idea why it started happening after the patch was installed. Perhaps it would be worth trying a 65season.ini file with just the Philip Island track in it?

this advice to reduce sounds must be out of pre W10 times  ~ XP I guess

as you won't change the wipers of your car when the engine stutters....

I always have the number of sounds low (in fact I thought I already had it at the lowest) because I only want to hear the car nearest me.  I can put it back up to 4 in the game if I don't like it.

I've no idea if it helps the CTD or not, there is no logical reason why it should, but....

Bummer !!

iGOR connected to Chat, but would not show Race List, reinstalled GEM package and rebooted PC several times but still no go. Ofcourse it turned out I had already reinstalled iGOR and forgot to modify the IP address in the iGOR ini file, Doh!!  Which I didn't discover until 2 mins after the race started, Double Doh!!

Note :- The lack of an IP Addy on the thread meant I couldn't even try going in through GPL itself

Cookie - thanks for the track folder it was the only thing that worked. I think there might have been something wrong with my base track install, as it was very featureless. As soon as I joined the race tonight it looked like a proper track with lots of features, esp the sea...

Qually was amazing, with all the new trackside objects I was better able to judge things culminating with 2 second faster lap out of nowhere, putting me 5th.

The race...well that was another thing, verrrryy frustrating being up with the leaders and then silly random mistakes throughout the race putting me down to last finisher. I had great fun chasing Doni making PB after PB...until another slip put him too far out of reach. I get really fed up with GPL when so many mistakes take me out of contention....

Good morning all

What a race, 2nd after Tristan's engine failure I made a mistake and got off the track.
Result, almost last and I am going to redo 3 other outings which on this circuit results in several seconds lost.
At the end of the race, I managed to come back to 4, a miracle position given my poor race.

Well done Raonni, Magic and Fulvio.
