Title: UKGPL Season 38 (Spring 2021) Lola vs Ferrari Cup - Stardust - Feb 12
Post by: Cookie on February 10, 2021, 11:26:37 AM +0000
Season 38 - SC67 - Lola vs Ferrari Cup – Round 3 - Stardust

WIP

Round 3 of the S38 Lola vs Ferrari Cup takes us to the Stardust Circuit in Nevada USA.
Long time gone track, Stardust was built in 1965 by the Stardust Hotel and Casino.
It hosted the season finale of the Can-Am Championship between 1966 and 1968.
In 1969 the Stardust hotel was sold and the new owners largely abandoned the track; leased for a while then the whole land was sold. In 1970 track was closed and Spring Valley community took its place.

Please check the Season 38 details (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=1262&theme=6) regarding rules and the Lola vs Ferrari Cup pages (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=1312&theme=6) in particular.
In order to add an element of realism, and to hopefully reduce the possibility of rear-end incidents, the brake light patch will be used (http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=13319&#entry145626)

Race List =  IGOR

Handicapping

"Works" drivers will carry extra weight in form of 10 gallons of race fuel (to remain in the tank after the race). No limit in quali!
Drivers are expected to behave in a fair and gentlemanly fashion and declare how much fuel they have left after the race.

In order to ensure there will be 10 gallons of fuel left after the race, the minimum race fuel load for Works is expected to be:

  • Lola T70 = 27 gallons (~102 litres)
  • Ferrari P4 = 28 gallons (~106 litres)

Two resets will be allowed (there is no need to carry out a Stop and Go in the pit lane if you make a Shift-R).

Drivers are reminded that Lap 1 incidents carry an extra 1 place penalty.
Only reported incidents will be moderated.

Please restrict chat to emergency messages only including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Just an observation and not a complaint. I keep having CTD at Turn 8 on this track. It happens almost every lap. Is anyone else suffering from this? I know that a couple of us experienced the same at Goodwood a couple of weeks ago and I'm really keen to have a full race there tomorrow with you guys.

Ah, I only remember we had problems like this at Spa67 where people had problems to get further than LesCombes...

Please try this if you have problems there.

This was solved when we learned about this line in core.ini that this value is responsible:

[ Replay ]
replayMemoryOverride = 192000

What do you have?
I remember Andreas needed 98000 to make a full lap...

Mine currently says this...

[ Replay ]
replayMemoryOverride = 180000

No problem for me. Sorry that isn't any help Pete, but I suppose it does provide some comfort in that it suggests there is hopefully some adjustment/setting you can make which will solve the problem. Incidentally my "replayMemoryOverride" is also set to 180000. But quite how that could affect a CTD, I have no idea (I don't think it will). It must be something in your graphics settings. The best guide I know of for graphics settings is Stefan's (http://www.gplworld.de/en/grand-prix-legends/gpl-easy-installation-guide), although it is a bit out of date now. I suggest you go through Stefan's guide and see if there is something in there that might be different from what you currently have.

Some pcs use the memory in different ways, at Spa67 it solves the ctds at LesCombes!

My PC has 16GB DDR3 Pete has 8GB DDR3...

I can't connect to the server, my ping is too high (323/323). I fear I'll have to withdraw from the series if I cant work this out. All that work for nothing.

Cookie - Bummer! I feel your pain.

Thankfully I managed to go freeze and CTD free. Really pleased with Q (4th) and even happier to see the lead open up to me for a couple of laps before losing it all too quickly. I'm usually at the back so I made the usual heap of mistakes and slowly worked my way backwards through the grid. For some reason my Ferrari became magnetic and attracted white tyres.

So, a great event and I've learnt a lot about these Sports Cars. All I have to do now is keep a cool head and stop making silly mistakes.

See you all next time.

Yeah, sorry Tris I did not see you, mea culpa

but had nothing to do with my freeze this was 1 lap later.

Strange freeze - screen just stopped and no sound - sharp picture - had to reset.

A great race. I had fantastic battles with Enrique, Martin and Pete. It was hard to overtake here, I needed a mistake from the drivers ahead to get past. I returned the compliment later in the race, I hit the polos twice in the twisty T4/T5 section. First time let Enrique through and the second time I nearly got mugged by Martin. A reversal of our battle in Sunday! Very impressed with Pete's driving, you'll be Works material soon!

A big thank you to Enrique for being a gentleman and letting me take my place back after our little shunt. You were quicker than me, it was only a matter of time before you found a way past.

Pete, Philippe, you had another lap to do. The chequered flag came out for Tris who was behind you but had not lapped you. I've been caught out by that myself  ::)  That's why you are only showing 29 laps and an "unknown" for your retirement. I wanted to check you had both finished and not had a screen freeze on the last lap given that both of you have been having CTD trouble.

New boy error. I thought it was game over but I did think it a bit odd. Never mind.

Now I know why I discoed - the same millisecond with Fulvio...

Look where your pitboard is shown in the track.ini (4725m) so you will see the right laps counter.
Post him 400m after finish line. Pribluda gets info from this position!

So as is, you see the lap counter at end of lap...historical correct... ::)

First race in these remade GT's so made some notes :

System  - After reading reports of graphic issues for some, reduced detail bias to 70% . Core.ini ansiatrophic to 8 for D3d7.  For OpenGl, mirror draw 2 or 4.  Replay memory unchanged here, but Xp takes little.  With only 2 gigs RAM, and 2gigs of graphic, full race replay saved OK.

Cockpit - reworked the NASA black, diamond studded Lola wheel, to avoid distraction while racing.

Physics - handling properties simplified from original, nearer to the Porsche in nature.  Built as endurance racers, perhaps this is correct.  But no noticable slipstream at Stardust is not correct.  1960's racers made a large hole in the air, and these cars were not small.  Track specific handling needed for good speed within a comfort zone.

Race report - provided a high speed chicane for Phil, until deciding to test the Lola's grass tracking ability beyond turn 1.  Repeated this action later for David to observe, but couldn't find any grass?  It occured to me, how easily Ginetto could modify this track for
Stratos use.  Half track ( not Halftrack ), and half infield using large marker cones, through the desert. 8)

Regained track and position, then endured to the finish.  Pitboard partly obscured - I will slightly lower this to see lap count.  A pitboard fix was needed for this Mod, but it would affect all Mods if changed.  I avoid Pribluda, and rarely disco.  GPL was not made for Pribluda - Pribluda was made for GPL - so buyer beware!

a big thanks to you phill, what a wonderful race got against you, and you say " very difficult overtake here," it's necessary wait the mistake of your rival for do that, and yes, we have a "fool" fist for my fault triying to overtake in curve straight in the back of the track, but was impossible, sorry for that, fortunately we can still running buddy. thanks for the race, for me it's enough got a nice batlle on track, I feel good whit that  ;)
cya next race and I hope can to make races, like yesterday race . thanks a lot.
