If it's any consolation, my loyalty to the 350Z is going to cost me dearly here as the car has a poor top speed, and appears to be very tail happy too. :-\

As long as you don't leave too much debri at Eau Rouge :P, or am I getting ahead of things? ;D

Eau Rouge is one of the few corners I'm not having a problem with - which probably means I'm not doing it fast enough! :D

I've not run a lot of laps here in the M3 (I'll stick with the M3 - adds a bit of variety), got a reasonable setup, just a few more tweaks to make to the setup.  I'm also not expecting great things here, just not had enough time on track.

You guys kill me!!  ;D

You guys will show up with little practice and stick in a few 2.21's !!

I on the other hand have spent all week practicing and tuning and still can't get below 2.25 !!

Good fun though!!

Are you driving at the 2003 version? The 2004 is a few sec slower than the 2003 one. And in the 2003 Spa, 2:17's are possible (Jon probably goes into the 2:16's :))

2:23 is the best I've managed so far in the (-50kg) 350Z. I'm struggling to see what I can do with the setup which will cure the entry and mid-corner oversteer but not give me big understeer on exit.

Don't forget that the Academy race is now 40 minutes like the Masters! :D

No definitely 2003!! Unfortunately!!
Only been at this a few weeks, the G25 has definitely helped, just need a little time and a lot more talent!!
I'm still trying to fine tune the set up and I'm still braking way too early for some of the corners !
I'll stick with it!!
It's still good racing at the back of the pack!!
Had a brilliant fight with Dangerman in the last race.

If it was easy, it would be no fun!!

I have similiar problems!!

What about tires temps....

If I drive normally I struggle to maintain front tire temps. ( Very smooth turn in etc. )
If I over turn the wheel excessively, ( like you do to scrub your tires ) in turn 3,4,5 and 6 then I'm ok for the rest of the lap!?

Any comments suggestions?

M.

Do 3 or 4 laps at race pace (i.e. pushing hard but not taking silly risks) and then post your tire temps here. There are so many ways to raise temps (one way being softening your roll bars) that  it's hard to guess without the figures.

I did a few laps yesterday and my tyre temps were in the high 70's (which is the usual for me on all the tracks i have raced)..

What concerns me is the times you guys are getting. I have had to increase the "Dead Zone" on my stick as it is falling apart. Just a warning for you guys, I no longer have subtle steering control to the left so I might be a bit ragged on left handers.

Well that was a little annoying >:( got caught out with people doing emergency stops in front me on the warm up lap causing the guy to hit me from behind, knocking my rear wing off on the second to last corner :-\
and at Spa it takes a long long time to get back to the pits without one of them ;)
After what seemed an age I was fixed and ready to go...only to get out of pit lane and find out I have a stop and go for pit lane speeding  ??? race over!
Hopefully I'll have better luck in the enduro, see you then chaps

Not sure what was going on on the pace lap, I think somebody had a bad connection and it was having major knock on effects at the back of the grid. There was some silly stuff going on too as an indirect result - reports as usual and we'll sort the mess out in moderation. :(

Speaking of the back of the grid, I wasn't supposed to be there. My ADSL connection decided to re-speed itself with less than 10 minutes of qualifying to go and it took me about a dozen attempts to get back in. >:(

Race was pretty exciting from the back once the formation lap was out of the way. There was some stuff going on at the tail of the field which is perhaps best described as "excessively frantic" - will make an interesting (in the Chinese curse sense) replay I suspect. Don't really want to comment until I've seen it but I think I was pretty clean as I hacked my way back through the field to a fairly satisfying 10th place with a solid performance which I hope bodes well for the Endurance event on Sunday.

First of all unlucky to Perdy. He spun early on but caught me up and managed to get passed on the second to last lap. I am chasing him just trying to keep him honest when a spinning back marker must have lost it at Blanchimont and was right in the middle of the track. Big collision I took to the grass to avoid the 2 cars. After letting Perdy have the spot back it was clear his car was  :censored: !! Went back by for my first 2nd place which is good for the champ standings. Not the way I would have wanted it though!

Good pace Poddy congrats for the win.

I enjoyed myself... happy with the qually, steady start - may have had light contact with Linescom I think it was, nothing I could do massive lag :(.

After the start I followed the RSR for a few laps before getting close going into Eau Rouge and then using every horse under the hood to get alongside and take the place.  After that I had a good gap back and with spinners etc got up to 5th.  One MAJOR 1fps hit later going into the Bus Stop I'd dropped to 7th, and was 5 secs back, a gap I never made a dent in.  There were a few more spins infront allowing me to close on Jamera, getting past on the last lap after he had a bit of a tankslapper at the Bus Stop, only for me to completely miss my braking point for the hairpin, and he duly went back past.

All in all it was a good race for me, happy with another single digit finishing place, and looking forward to the endurance now.

Cheers all, unlucky you lot that got nerfed and didn't last the distance.

Its ok - i was annoyed at the time tho! swearing into the monitor and everything!!

But as it turns out, no practice equals terrible set up again - was ok on the first few laps, but under estimated the rear grip exiting corners in the GT3, and being a bit too heavy with the gas = facing a) the wrong way, or b) the barrier.

So i reckon it didn't really make to much difference to my race
What are the rules if you lose it on the pace lap - are you allowed to overtake the cars in front to regain your position?
i wasn't sure so just sat at the back...

im off to smoke some fags >:( (of the tabacco variety)

I'm not in this NGT class, but I'd love a moderator to post an official ruling on this too. I think it'd be beneficial for everyone in all the classes to know what to do if you spin on the warm up lap, at least it would lower confusion.

The rules state:

"Any driver who because of a technical failure stops, or who leaves the track (either by mistake or because of a failure), is responsible for rejoining the formation lap safely.
This may mean waiting until the entire field has passed and rejoining in last place.
The driver shall not attempt to regain their original starting position."

If you want to come back to GTL you're more than welcome. The racing is pretty clean nowadays with some good racing. There is plenty of space if you want to don your 60s helmet and put the pedal to the metal.

Still learning - but had a really great time on track today! Something to look forward to on Tuesdays!

great race guys! i think i take the "Fast but erratic driver of the day award" after a couple of spins in first half of race but was a lot more consistent in the second half!!!

WELL DONE TO PODDY.... great pace in the race with 2m20s quite consistently. And the pressure at the beginning ended with my first spin! good racing!

I managed to catch Paul, taking the whole race to recover from my initial spins, and managed to get a cracking exit and nab 2nd. Then the dramas began! Will spun at Rivage and thanfully we didn't make contact and then coming out of blanchimont i was faced with a spinning Ferrari360 which couldnt be avoided and I ended up hitting and damaging my suspension!!!!!

Paul took good evasive action and judged it well, thanks for letting me past Paul, but my suspension was pretty bad and i didn't want to hold u up any longer! I limped home on last lap and thankfully retained 3rd!

Thats racing and I would not have it any other way!!!!!!!

grats to paul who now leads standings! till the next time!  ;) lol

I'm quite obviously really chuffed with how the race went, I felt so awful when i saw Perdy spin! I was really looking forward to a great battle for 1st, which you thoroughly provided at the beginning of the race! Great sportsmanship man :) Saw quite a few screw ups when running into some back markers, luckily I narrowly avoided some too. Well done to Paul and importantly Perdy, from pulling it back after the initial spin.

Great race! Couldn't have hoped for more!  ;D

Personally, I increase the Radiator one and depending on if I've dropped the brake ducts for qually I put them back up.
Then I tend to not rev quite as high in the race just to conserve the engine, but I leave the rev limit alone, for those overtaking moments where I want extra revs.

ah... so if u're nice to the engine.. u can keep the rev limiter at the max setting? would you do that for the enduro? My caution stems from blown engines in F1c and ctdp, but i guess tis a totally different kettle of fish...

on that note.. would your reponse (cf reliability) apply to the GT1s before? Last week's sprint at Brno was the 1st time I'd gone that far in one sitting. Thanks again!

I always use max rev settings for Sprint and Endurance. For endurance I would normally change just into the red zone to be that little bit kinder and use the extra revs for overtaking or pushes on lap time, whereas Sprints I tend to change at 2 or 3 red bars.

It's more important to not over-rev it and not let it get too hot. Over-reving occurs where you don't let off the throttle during up-shifts (for those with manual clutch). This is the biggest single killer of engines, rather than the rev limit.

If you have the extra revs available then you can choose to use them or not, so having the extra revs in your setup is only dangerous if you choose to use them by always revving it to the 4th red bar before changing, or you let the engine get too hot, or you don't lift when you shift for manual clutchers).

Normally I try have revs on max all the time and try not to use them but at Spa I ended up being unable to set the gear ratios up to avoid seeing the Big Red Light(tm) come on each and every time at the end of the Kemmel Straight. I half expected the engine to go pop near the end, especially with the radiator vents at just 2, but the 350Z's engine appears to be pretty much bulletproof, at least the way I drive it (slowly).

Hi all Sorry for being in the way whilst having a big barrier testing spin , how did Dave end up at back of grid ,there was a car jumping at me on the pace lap and someone  tail ended me as well. Would have liked to pit on the pace lap but did not know how to enter pit lane with cars around me.Thought I was going quite well for a start and was following Dave at one point but then it got very squirilly and finally attacked the blanchemount barriers. I definatley intend to quallyfi last at the next meeting as am fed up with being tail ended. Cheers gerald ps no blame or bad feeling to anyone as s***t happens

I would imagine this race's moderators report is still causing a few headaches?!
