Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see
cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules (https://www.simracing.org.uk/index.php?pid=7) especially the
rules about in-game chat messages.
(3) You will need to install Race Room Racing Experience from Steam, and have the Euro and American Track Packs for this series (And maybe another
non pack track occasionally)
(4) Please exercise caution when pitting as some tracks have a speed limit.

(5) Please follow the SROUK guidelines for using kerbs etc. Please keep 2 wheels on the track surface (kerbs do not count as track surface)
Excessive cutting of corners will seen as cheating and the results may be altered to reflect this.

Good spot  :thumbup1:

We will be running the historic variant, as it gets rid of that nasty tight chicane.

Just turned a few laps in the V10. 1.39.9 in race trim, 1.37.0 in qually trim. Way off the best leaderboard laps though, 1.33s!!!!!!!!!!!!  ???

It is so much more difficult to get a good lap than at Hungaroring. It is easier to keep the car under control but as it is so much faster you need to be much more precise to keep the speed up, one slight error can easily lose 0.5s. I think I can probably go 1s faster than those times if I can do a lap without small mistakes. No idea how to do 1.33s though.

This car has had a total physics overhaul recently, not sure if the leaderboards were ever wiped. Although the only difference for me since the last update was that the FFB is now even more vague in slow corners.  :-\

Perhaps as I am not one the fastest "pilotes" here, I rarely notice differences in FFB.
I notice in GTL when there hardly is any, and have to change wheel types until I get one
that has enough resistance. But in R3E for me it just works. I have had endless trouble in AC
trying to get a tight enough lock over the years, and still sometimes have to spin the wheel
like I am driving an oil tanker to get enough lock on, and that's with G25/27 and even more
this TM wheel, but the FFB is just "there" I need enough resistance to stop me turning
too far or not enough, once I have that, it's about as good as it can be for me.

What in particular are the Issues? GT and maybe Picnic have had FFB issues in R3E as well.

I've basically given up on AC. The FFB just doesn't work properly on Logitech wheels, no matter what anyone says, except on certain cars after hours of tweaking.

R3E, however, is generally good. Only in this car, they recently changed the steering geometry, which seems to have reduced the forces a lot in low-speed cornering. This leads to a very floaty and imprecise feeling in and out of corners. If I counter this by increasing the car-specific gain, I get crazy rattling going over the kerbs.

OK, ta for that. I have had to use smoothing to counter that sort of thing
can we do that in R3E, not sure.

Have you tried using a LUT file for your wheel in AC? I followed these instructions to the letter and it made a huge difference for me...

https://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/rasmusps-lut-guide-for-g27-29-and-dfgt.16799/

Had a couple of laps in the V12 and yes, ffb seems to be a bit vague compared to that in the M3. Cranking up the gain doesn't really solve it either because the subtle details become swamped by the overall force. Tweaking lateral and vertical forces would probably help some but then I spent ages tweaking those to get the M3 feeling right for me  :-\ :-\

Must admit after having spent some time with AC and rF2 open wheel mods from the RSS and ASR modding teams, these FR90s feel very lame.

I am using that LUT and it helps, but the SAT is still bad. Basically, in a lot of cars as soon as the rear steps out you are fighting the FFB to keep from spinning because it's either not enough SAT and you overcorrect, or too much SAT that kicks you sideways and off the track you go. Basically, the SAT is delayed and there's no way to fix that I've found.

i might be late to the party so apologise if all this has been said, but i have an issue with my G923.... i cannot change steering rotation angle ingame in the car setup menu....(no arrows to adjust value) so i am forced to changed GHub to match the car i want to drive..... probably obvious to everyone but what a revelation that was when i stopped driving everycar with 300 degrees set on the wheel Logitech software!
Second thing that really worked for me was reducing the Force Feedback miniman force to 0% that helped with over all 'rattling' sure i still get it but not as bad but then my curb vibration is only 20%

But i hear you this car is very 'glass' like but it is my first drive so not really qualified to comment only run about 20-30 laps

Interesting, with my old G29 wheel I find i was reducing the gain down to stop those peaks that set the gears ratttling but would then increase the minimum gain to try and compensate for the reduced feel especialy at low speed corners.

AC settings were ok, but gave you no chance to tweak it to how you wanted, but there are far more setting to help with that in Raceroom. But its interesting to see Matts settings quite different from where ive ended up. I would just change the steering rack forces % to see if i would get more through

Loving this track & car combo.

I'm averaging 1:42.9 in race trim. Can quite get under 1:40s in Qualy though.

i think i should be nicknamed 'plank' after a recent post with phspok so newbie 'plank' post alert  :-[

apart from the obvious is there any difference on track between the V8, V10 or v12?
they all seem blindingly quick.... gulp... i'll be honest I am quite scared for Thursday now

Regarding setups for any car not just these beasts is the base setup good enough? - i mean if i was any good id be quick with a default setup so tinkering will not make me any quicker... right?
So apart from basics like wing/downforce, brake bias setups, tyre pressure setups are very much a dark art for me but I have seen a couple of posts regarding race trim vs qualifying trim.... excuse my ignorance but do you guys run a qualifying and race setup for each car?
Apart from the fuel level i dont change anything ...am i missing something?

thank you

Can't say what the difference in the cars is, as I have only tried the V10.

Base setup is fine, most RRE cars have good default setups, tinkering can obviously make it more suitable for you, but equally it is quite easy to make the car worse.

Yes I do use race & qualifying setups, however they are basically the same. You can use soft tyres in qualifying but they do not last long enough to able to use them in the race, mediums work fine for the race. With the soft tyres you can probably use a little less aero and/or a more powerful engine map, at Silverstone the qually setup is around 2.5s faster I reckon.

Title: Re: RRE Season 8 (2021) Formula 90 - Silverstone - Mar 11
Post by: phspok on March 10, 2021, 04:13:09 PM +0000
For this track. I find the default setups to be faster, and no harder to drive than my own
The V12 is a little easier perhaps because the power comes in at higher revs, the V10 is in the middle
and the V8 has more mid range, which can be harder or not... You can see the power curves for the
different models in the setup screen where the engine map is displayed.

I struggle more with the V10 as it seems to have a heavier back end, and want to swap ends into corners
more than the others.

If you can't get on with the defaults, have a look at my (supposedly) easier to drive setups on the 1st page
for this event.

I just do everything I can to tame the rear.
Raise rear toe in, get the rear camber right (7-10 degrees inner to outer temp), tyre pressures, low ride height, soft springs, high downforce, raise diff settings, raise final drive.

The thing I find most helpful is thinking about what Martin Brundle says about accelerating.
"You have to think that there's an egg under the pedal that you don't want to break".

Nice and easy on the power. Select a higher gear when you can to help reduce the wheelspin.
Now I'm down to one serious tank slapper every two laps. ::)

There should be a newer file for the proper race, I hope!

Pretty good race for me yesterday with the F1 V12.

Video here https://youtu.be/5dDaDS88ybg (https://youtu.be/5dDaDS88ybg)

With the recent improvements on my FFB settings, thanks all for your advice, I'm getting a much better feel and am very comfortable with the car behavior.
The drive yesterday was flawless. I had a strong start to the race but I'm happier with the strong couple of final laps that were the fastest of the race. Usually, by the end of the race, I've dropped performance and it's good to see this being addressed.

What was wrong with Passmore's car at the beginning? That smoke wasn't normal. Was it too low, the car? or overheating?

Congrats to the podium and see you at Spa in three weeks.

Jos

Congrats to Jos on another superb drive, not only fast but perfectly in control.  :notworthy:

This race went better for me than I expected. Did a pretty good qually lap to get 2nd on the grid but from the split times it was clear I needed to work on my speed out of the slow corners. I was fastest in both sectors 1 & 2 but lost nearly a second to Jos & John in the final sector. This was also evident early in the race following John where I would close up through the faster corners only to lose those gains out of the Village & Luffield sections.

Followed John for the early laps until he had a moment exiting Brooklands which let me overtake. Gradually extended the gap over John during the middle part of the race until I had a misunderstanding with Bill at Club & we collided, sorry Bill, I should have been a bit more careful. This brought the advantage over John down to just around 1s & it stayed at that for another couple of laps until John disappeared. This left me in a comfortable 2nd place well behind Jos & apart from a half spin & trip across the grass at Aintree I brought it home safely.

Congrats to Toni in 3rd   , bad luck to John on the game crash.

Not sure about the smoke from my car at the start, did anybody else see it? I didn't but there must be something wrong because I don't have a replay file which is odd and steam was messaging me about not be able to update cloud data, so maybe I was doomed from the start!

would be good to see others setups (Jos Geoff) I just couldn't get anymore out of the V8 and could not get anywhere near the AI cars!!

hopefully I will finish one of these races in this series!

I am still of the opinion that the December update broke the aerodynamics in many cars, including these ones. The tyres are incredibly binary and at times it feels like there's no downforce at all. I was seeing weird front bouncing just before braking for Stowe, indicating that the aero balance was all messed up.

my number one learning from last night was not to be so surprised as to how fast things happen with these cars

from having clear space behind to have my mirrors filled made me jump of the track  :o and then later to catch up with someone Toni (? i think) in a matter of a corners ...made me jump off the track again .. :)

great fun though reminded me of many hours spent on Geoff Crammonds GP and GP2 all be it hunched over a keyboard

...did some say Spa?  :jumpjoy:
