Post by: AndyL on March 02, 2021, 09:10:35 PM +0000
Season 38 – 1967 F1 PRIVATEERS – Round 5 – Parana

For the 5th round we are going to Argentina. Paraná is the capital of Entre Ríos province, to the north of Buenos Aires.
The Autódromo Ciudad de Paraná has a history going back to 1941, but was a dirt track with various layouts until asphalt was finally laid in 1969. The track has never hosted a championship F1 race, but has seen many national and international races for cars and bikes. Carlos Reutemann was a F2 champion here. It is a wide track allowing easy overtaking on long straights. There are tight corners too and it runs in an anti-clockwise direction.

I won't be able to make the start Sunday. I need to change my recent history from four straight DNF to one straight DNS. It sounds better, though the result is still pretty much the same.

Big apologies to John and Fabio at the start. I hadn't selected first gear so when I dropped the clutch the revs maxed out but I didn't move (schoolboy error!). I managed to select first and got going hopefully with no damage to anyone's cars. After that I had an epic race with Philippe, David R, Albert and Dulima. We were very evenly matched and mistakes were needed to allow an overtaking attempt. We all swapped places a few times. It was tough keeping the Honda tyres cool, I'm glad I don't have to drive it again!

Grats to Leo, Eric and Dave on their podium places.

Enjoyed tonight. Had some great laps with Bernie, dave S  and Ben.

Never really driven the Honda much but it seemed the best of my three options left to try for the 50 point bonus.

Lotus was just too much of a handful for me... suprise,  suprise !!! and BRM was just hard work for me. Congrats to the brave souls that chose the BRM.

all was going OK, but half way or so into the race I felt all was under control, but the rear tyres were cooked, even lightly lifting off the throttle was making the Honda swap ends. Last ten laps or so were bloody hard work but good practice and very rewarding.

Another great night guys. Thanks all.

Your lap times were pretty good Paul, the Honda was a real handful here. Great to see you had a good race.

I quite enjoyed that track.  Some great battling, until I drove it into a sign   oops.

I don;t know how some guys are so quick.   I am going to try 270 degrees on my G29 next time to see if that makes the cars easier to control :D

See you at Tripoli

superb evening, good fight with all my friends, on a track that I hate, and with a rotten car ...
honda, oh my god, is there a patch to remove this car?
bravo leo, bravo to all, bravo david for overtaking 2 laps from the end, I'm too happy for you.
in the end, it's been 3 races without a freeze ... my fingers crossed

Qualifying went rather well with a PB in the 1,34's. The race was a mess. Couldn't get the barking right anywhere. After losing the car into Turn 1 on two consecutive laps I quit. I have recalibrated the pedals & they seem rather more stable so hope to get the finish - without hitting anything - on Tuesday in the 65's.

Unlucky Billy, it was good to see you back on the track again and with good pace  :thumbup2:

Save Accelerated!

Paraná, is a very technical track, I still make stupid mistakes

I had a chance to finish in a better position

But it was a good fight and good fun

Sad went to Ricardo Silva, who led with ease, had a freeze

Congratulations Leo Menegucci, for his victory

Beautiful second place Eric, with BRM

And David, closing the podium!

I wanted to apologize to Albert, who, in a round of mine, I almost ended his race

Great Phil, we had a good fight, thanks for always being a gentleman

Phil, I was looking at the score table, in Monza, I made the fastest lap and that point was not counted

There's the pole point, I don't remember who it was

Thank you very much and a big hug to all

Be well, be strong!

Moderation posted. Unfortunately, Ricardo's point for pole position cannot be added to the championship table because he didn't score points in this race due to a disconnection before 75% of the race was completed. I will add this point to him the next time he scores race points.
Philippe's bonus point for pole position for Monza has been added here because he didn't score race points there.
