Season 38 1965F1 – Round 5 – Amateurs - Parana

For those racing their 1967 cars at the weekend in Argentina, stay a couple more days and don't forget to hitch your 1965 car to the back of the transporter.
Paraná is the capital of Entre Ríos province, to the north of Buenos Aires. The Autódromo Ciudad de Paraná has a history going back to 1941, but was a dirt track with various layouts until asphalt was finally laid in 1969. The track has never hosted a championship F1 race, but has seen many national and international races for cars and bikes. Carlos Reutemann was a F2 champion here. It is a wide track allowing easy overtaking on long straights. There are tight corners too and it runs in an anti-clockwise direction.

Could not connect sadly. Kept getting a "10051: Error Found In The Network" while trying to connect through iGOR and direct IP.

That is a shame. Did you manage to connect to the server earlier in some practice sessions?

That was a very tough race. I couldn't get anywhere near the pace of Pete and Leo but I had a mighty battle with Eric and Philippe. Good clean racing but I had to resort to a very hard pass to get past Eric on the last lap. No contact and I think it was clean but inches to spare. The Honda seems to be a bit down on power exiting the corners but maybe that is my driving?

Server replay available from:  here (https://www.sendspace.com/file/olxla0)
Also added to event details page.

Apologies for the late start/reduced practice/qually time.

Congrats podium!
From the GPLRA report, looks as though there were a few long-fought battles.

On that subject - thanks for the workout Paul. That was intense throughout!

I had no idea I'd managed to collect the full house so soon:
Code:
3m54.740s
Dave 65 Curtis - spotters reporting:
medium problems with right front tire.
medium problems with right rear tire.
severe problems with right front suspension.
medium problems with right rear suspension.
the car has an engine problem.

(probably says a lot for my driving & lack of practice!)

But the car was definitely happier with your tow. I was really having to cane it in the later stages with the hope of staying ahead.  Although unlucky right at the end.

Cheers,
Dave.

I tried connecting before the qualifiers for practice - no luck. I'll try again some other time.

Congrats to Pete for a great win.  Thanks to Dave for sorting the server issues.

The connection last night was solid as a rock. No warping or glitches at all for me. Hope it was as good for everyone else.

Thanks Dave for some of the most enjoyable laps of racing I've had in a long time..  what an incredible difference it was from our previous visit to Parana only a few days back.

The Lotus 33 was a beaut compared to the 67 Honda last time, so much so I wasn't at all sure about the track, but after last night I love it. Fairly technical but challenging with a nice flow.

I only made one mistake when I had a bit of a wobble which allowed Dave through after many enjoyable laps, I tucked in as close as I could and chased him to the finish as best as I could.  It was great racing. Feel like I'm getting my mojo back a little.

Took time to invest a few bits of wisdom from Phil... thanks mate.. so I'm running a different FOV/POV and a changes to my wheel set up, and along with a little more on track practice and improved setups things are going well for me.

Even after 20+ years GPL still has lots more to give, and more secrets to uncover.

Sad to see a few spinning cars at the start, I hope everyone was OK?. I think every starter did finish ok and no disco's ?

Cheers again one and all... see you next time

PaulV

This race was a nightmare for me.
Again, I had big troubles when I was in 5th gear. With a sudden loss of power on straight lines.
Several cars easily overtook me on the straight before and after the finish line.

I remember Cadwell or Oulton Park, the first races of this series, when I had not these troubles and could, more or less, follow the leader.

I was following Billy during the biggest part of the race but never was able to overtook him until leaders were lapping us.
Billy was going on the grass, at this moment, and I could overtake him ...not sure it was a great fair play operation

Probably I have to clean my pedals, but what I can't understand is it does not happen with all the mods (it seems almost OK with 67 and 55).

David , I had similar problems but more with 55 mod than any other , cleaning the pedal pots ( good old WD40) fixed it for me so perhaps you should try it .

Racewise I had the wrong car and wrong set up ( Brands Hatch ) only realised when the race started Brands is set for right hand turns  ::)

Tried hard to join your group fight , nice to see Paul V up there doing well .

Grats to podium and all finishers  ;D

Hi Bernie, took your advice too, and decided to stay around for a bit more fun..

Sorry to hear you was using wrong car and setup etc. Fully expected to be having fun chasing you as usual. Was running well this time so found myself a few places up the grid and the running for a change.

See you next time mate.

Thanks everyone. That was fun. I really didn't expect to get pole in the Ferrari as it's nice to look at but not so fast. I usually crash it as I'm too busy admiring the dashboard. I nearly missed the start as the flag-man seemed to be in a real hurry to get home. Was it just me, or did he appear to only hold the flag up for about one second before starting the race? I only just had the car in gear in time and I was expecting Leo to whistle past me into T1.

Managed to hold my nerve and not do anything silly whilst trying to run away from Leo's Brabham which was filling my mirrors. Thanks to back-markers for making it safe to pass. A really fun clean race and good to see that we did not suffer from discos or freezes. GPL at its best. I just love the 65 cars for online racing and they are just perfect at Parana.

I'm trying a different car at each race for the first 7 races so it's between the Lotus and Cooper for the next two rounds. I think I'll have to flip a coin to choose.

Thanks for hosting and organising this brilliant series - I love it :)

See you all next time.

I guess it was my worstest GPL65 race ever.
Wrong setup, no pace, a lot of spins...
Just managed to cross the finish line.
See you all on track.
Cheers

UKGPL_10 up for some general testing; so maybe try connecting at some point & let us know if you still have issues.
(Server seems a lot happier not running Parana)

Cheers,
Dave.

The error code 10051 is reporting that a connection to the server cannot be made. This is probably a firewall issue. Have you created a firewall rule for GPL (Windows creates this automatically but you still have to confirm the rule when the window pops up)? You will need a firewall rule for each mod.

Dave's server will be up on iGOR most of the time. Please make sure you can connect before the next race. Post a question here if you need help.
