I've had a rough go at balancing out the cars based on top speed with full aero - as they are actually very close this has meant we're using balast primarily in order to maintain the power to weight values equally.

This may or may not work, although everyone who doesn't have a blue oval should get pretty much the same top speed now (I've removed al BoP from the Fords for now to make up for the speed deficit).

We'll run a double header again as per the season, as it's the Endurance layout I'm using to match the video posted in the other thread that'll be 3 laps per race. That's actually about 7 or 8kms further than any race in the season.

As it's a fun event I won't be moderating it in a mandatory fashion - but please treat it like a championship round and keep it clean. :)

One 6 lap race would be better, these mini stints start to make me bit sick tbh...maybe 6 laps also gives some room for tactical elements.

This is fantastic! And I think the two stint races, that more closely follow the original series, is a great format. But I'll be happy to drive with Kdiesel another 6 laps Nordschleife race whenever he wants.

I was tempted on a single 6 lapper - but that totally removes any posible strategy shinanigans.
I am thinking to do longer races with pit stops when we revisit DTM in the future though (whenever that turns out to be)

First 30 mins is just warming up for old engine like me... :)

I didn't do the main series as I find these cars hard to drive, but I'd love to do this. Anything at the ring gets my motor running. I suck at setups and have a soft spot for the old Sierra. Has anyone a stable setup they'd be kind enough to share please? I am no alien and of limited talent but I'll cruise round at back and pick up the pieces from any crashes (well I can dream/hex you all ;))

Maxime/Jos seem to be the Ford experts - You'll need the longest gear ratios for whatever they can give you :)

I'm sure Maxime's cats will be happy to share with Pete once something has been cooked for the Nords... Bear with us.

Just spotted the thread. Hi Pete, long time we didn't meet on a track :)
I'll be pleased to share a setup with you as soon as my cats are wandering above my keyboard and mouse while I'm struggling with all those damn complicated and useless parameters !  ;D
If ever it more or less suits your driving style, I'll be grateful to them.

Note that my setups are only for H tyres, even in qualifs. If you want to have a better qualif laptime, much better to ask Jos as I've never been able to make those M and S tyres work.

Also, I note that nobody here apart from me looks to know that Jos is a Green Hell Master Devil ?

I put it up on Thursday - so it should be there.
I'll take a look in 10 mins and see if someone's closed the AC windows on the server or something

It must have crashed - the windows were still open but no server.
I've restarted it and it's showing on AC now, I'm off to do some practice myself to test it 8)

Can we have the dreaded cut truck warning off? I drove for 25 minutes, put a wheel slightly on the grass, lost time, and got the cut track warning. I just stopped and left the server right away.

I won't be able to touch the server until I'm home from work this evening.
For qualifying I wouldn't want to turn that of as there are places you can make very unfair gains if you cut.

In the race it won't matter as we don't have the corner cutting penalty feature turned on.

If I get time once home I'll disable it for the practice server though.

A bad week for motorsports fans,  first Murray and now Sabine  :'(

I've now changed the practice settings but won't be changing the race/qually settings away from the standard '3 wheels out' rule :)
I should add that you'll only have time for 1 flying lap for those who haven't done their sums - so you can choose between safe and a guaranteed laptime, or  high risk/high rewards and potentially no laptime ;)

It's a real shame about Sabine, I only heard at work earlier. She seemed a genuinely nice person when I met her at the Ring some 10 years or so back :(

Will join the fun tonight but I’ve only had 2.5 laps practise  :P and that was only to try and find the right gears...something that alluded me all season in this car   :-\  But know the track well at least  :)
The Beemer is topping out at 265kph as far as I can tell.

The loss of Sabine at only 51 was the first thing I read this morning and it depressed me all day  :'( Far too young for a sunny character like her, fast and fearless, RIP

Yep, the setup of the Beemer was a bit of a misfire this series. Finally at this non championship round it worked best, except for the long first gear which ment I was slow of the line and had to try and make up places during the races.
At the end of R1 I found Bob in the middle of the road and rammed him full chat. Lucky we both could continue, altough it gave Peter the chance to overtake my damaged car.
R2 was much better, only to spin once around Hocheichen and letting 3 cars by. No damage so could carry on chasing them around the green hell.

A fitting end to this series and a proper tribute to the loss of Sabine.
Altough not the best results in the drivers standings maybe, but team Legends takes the teams crown! And congrats to Matteo as best driver.

Apologies Stefan, had spun and was trying to get back on track as quick as I could, unavoidable really.

Quite enjoyed taking the old E30 around the Ring, just a shame i didnt get to do any actual racing. Finished p4 both races, way behind the meteoric front 3 and way in front of the rest of the pack. As a result i found it hard to keep my concentration in the 2nd race especially aware that it was turning into another longer evening sim racing, my third night in a row. My mind wandered with a third of a lap to go thinking swmbo will tear me a new one and i ploughed into a barrier hard  :P Had broken screen, body damage and wonky suspension but with a 12 sec lead over 5th i just wobbled around to the finish line.
But enjoyed the first race, the E30 was surprisingly well behaved over the bumps and turns, though i was running it fairly stiff.
Also in the 2nd race i thought i would have a grandstand view at least of the top 3 battling but there is a stupid piece of armco that sticks out at the first corner into the full Nordschleiffe and even though i took the corner quite casually lining up along the barrier before turn in, it gave me such a crack that the car was pitched sideways and into the air over the grass  ::) so i instantly lost about 5 secs and that was almost the last i saw of them  >:(  Would have been mid 9.20's with a bit more focus as found one notch longer on the gears gave me more pace in certain sections but tiredness took over in the second race.

Shame the turnout wasnt bigger for such a great combination of cars and track, but well done for organising it Tim.  8) Was almost poetic that it happened on the same day we lost Sabine.  :'(

Tim's BoP for the overall DTM series was a masterpiece. Alfas, Mercs, BMWs, and Sierras had their strengths well balanced across the range of tracks for the main series. The Nords is special in so many ways and Tim did a quick job to adapt the BoPs for the different cars. There is a possibility the Sierras were left with a bit more power than the rest  ;D and Teammate Maxime and I had a great run in the two races  8) . Of course, Tim in his Merc (or whatever he drives) is always a big contender...
Key was not to allow him to overtake and slow the Sierras on the non-straight sections of the track  :2guns:. I managed to succeed on this starting on pole and using the Sierra's good start (this time not critically challenged by a close Alfa) to break away from the pack. Teammate Maxime got unfortunately embroiled closer to Tim and mortally wounded  :death:  :D in both races with Tim's Merc advantage on the main straights... But he had much more fun than I in his wheel-to-wheel battles with Tim  ;).
Both races were very similar although the first one included a first part with Jari coming into P2 with his Alfa and simplifying my gap management with Tim and Maxime.
I had good fun in both races and was certainly kept honest by them.

Well done all for making this fantastic event that served as a tribute to the great Sabine, RIP.

I loved your full beam lights strategy when closing the gap at the end of the first lap. Did you want me to lose concentration?... You cheeky flasher!  ;D
I see you switched them off at the beginning of the straight on the second lap... Could you enlighten us on why?

Too far back to be effective and I knew my tire advantage would have gone too much too really hope at getting back to you.
I was right too - after a few miles on the Ring is started dropping back as my tires died and yours didn't.

Mostly only put them on for fun to replicate every big Merc on a european motorway you ever saw in the 90's - main beam on and going at least 50kph faster than everything else  ;D

Results are sort of up.
Dave is looking into getting the track recognised correctly - I've had to load it as the GP layout for now :)

The gaps for the top 3 are intriguing - we crossed the line at the same difference to just a couple of tenths in both races! :o
