Hey,

Accidently posted in the masters endurance race, oops :-[

Anyway looking forward to getting into my first ever online race with you lot.

Do I need to use a skins car or can I use a standard motor?

Cheers
Colin

You can use a non-skinned car - in fact unless you're in a team or have a privateer skin you'll have to!

I thought that was the case, but wanted to double check. I'll be on my lonesome then....  ;)

I'm sure more question will arise once I have the game installed, which will be tmorrow night, play posted yesterday

Okay,

Wont be taking part this weekend, still havent got the game  >:(

Looks like the endurance race on the 28th will be the first race for me.

Is there other times where I can practice online with others outside of the events?

Regards
Colin

The practice server is up most of the time, you may or may not find others on it. However often by joining you will find others do to.

Its also a good way to meet the other drivers and compare your times with them

Its fianlly arrived!!!  ;D

Can't wait to get it loaded up tonight. Is it best to remove the demo before installing?

If I want to take part tomorrow night, which I do, do I need to install the Zhuhai track? When I download such things, including the skinpack do I save it on the first prompt or open it?

Sorry for the daft questions!

Zhuhai is a standard track, you will have it ;)

Save the skin pack then if you need to reinstall it for any reason you still have a copy.

Hey all,

Just installed the game, and the skin pack there now. All seems fine until I enter the password to join "xxxxxxxx". Getting bad password most times, but sometimes, 'track not installed'??

Any help please???!

Thanks

That's because practice servers use a different password as detailed in this thread (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=12.0)

Please don't post passwords as not everyone is signed up for whatever series and therefore may not have access to that series' password, plus some parts of the forum are free for the whole internet to read.

Morning!

Had a great practice last night, really enjoyed it. Started out in an NGT, the TVR. Managed mid 1.43's. Finally changed to the 575 and managed a 1.35. Having just a controller is a real nightmare! Throttle and break is just on - off - on - off. Really need a wheel. Can't get out of corners quick in most cases and was locking up too much.

Anyway, I have a prior engagement pending tonight so hopefully i'll make it for the sprint tonight. Though anyone who was on last night is praying I wont be! I'm still cleaning out the gravel ;)

Linco I believe that steering wheel is a must if you plan racing with us tonight. Don't take this personally, but most of us spend time preparing setup and polishing our skills and your car would be nothing but a moving danger. I would strongly suggest buying even the cheapest wheel (red Logitech for example) so you could join us asap.

Reign Man somehow manages to set respectable times with a digital throttle and brake, goodness knows how! The most important thing is to drive within your abilities - much better to consistently lap 10 seconds off the pace than be picking it out of a gravel trap every other lap.

lol, true

Hello firiends!!!!  ;)

After taking a break from racing last week, it certainly has gotten my racing blood boiling again and that was evident in the Enduro event in which theose pesky "Finding Nemo" guys aka Sharks  ;) :D :whistling: ;D got a real wake up call!!

Looking forward to tonights race and just a few wise words from me...although its fun to race ALL THE TIME, its not really recommened as we need to srtike a balance...for me thats work, girlfirend, family and general health! ...and it saved me from burning my copy of GTR2 :)

So now im refreshed and back to enjoying my racing! ...oh and ive gotten back into GTL as well which is never a bad thing!

You're probably all right, its best I stay out of everyones way. I'd like to join in to the free practices on some nights such as last night though.

Anyway, best get shopping for a wheel then

b'ah dont worry about those bullies Linco  :P  Get yourself on track and join in the racing. Take a steadier GT instead of the real lairy beasts, maybe a Corvette or Viper? (others may have better recommendations?) and as Dave said, concentrate on driving within your own speed as opposed to flat out. We all have to start somewhere.

small print:- However if you take me out, there will of course be trouble  ;)  ;D

You should definitely get yourself a wheel though. Even the fabulous DFP pro can be got for about £60 now.

I think you need to practise online and offline a bit before coming straight into leagues. It always takes a while with sims before you start finding your limits, sometimes weeks.
Whilst I understand what Pedro is saying, I dont fully agree with it. Having a wheel and pedels is certainly a big advantage, especially when the tyres go off and you start sliding, but a pad isn't a massive handicap. I've only been using a wheel for a month now, and ran with my PS2 controller for over a year and my fastest laps are almost the same as with my wheel. You have to make a few sacrifices with no abs or tc, such as lowering the braking force to 85/90% to stop them from locking, and tapping the throttle on and off is quite delicate and tricky, but by no means dangerous if done properly.

If you are using a pad however, I'd advise learning the track and reaching your limits with abs and tc turned on...then once you are confident and driving fast, turn the aids off and start learning how to drive fast without the aids. GTR2 is definately more forgiving than GTR with no aids, so it shouldn't be tough to transition.

Hope that helps

Had some lag/warping issues with a red 550 on the end of lap one - it was stationary on the track for a few secs, so i swerved to avoid.......and lost it - never really got back into the race after this point, and i spun it in front of someone trying to lap me (Loc?) sorry mate - i tried to esc a.s.a.p... :'(

Bad night for me - must practice much more. ::)

The pace was great from everyone, although i think i missed out by not competing oin sundays enduro event, and only raced one time previosly at Zuhai. :(

Grats to everyone who took part  8)

Same happened to me except i didn't avoid it and car went all weird and spun  :( . However I had a few good scraps getting back up to my start position even if Jan's car tried to throw me of with a Bond- esq  :ninja: smokescreen!! :P Hard work for no points, are we going to change the points in season 5? You know last place gets a point going up to BIG points for P1 sort of thing? ;D would make us lower guys see a reward?

In qually I did a PB and got pole.

The start started scary, as Jon went off behind me :o, missing out on a 1-2 for Shark. I then was able to keep increasing the gap on Radius.

After the gap was about 10s, I started to ease off a bit and save the tuned Fiat :D. But all of a sudden the gap was decreasing, and I suspected Claus was behind me at that point, as I was only about .4 slower than my fastest racelap.
In the end I had TT and MJ infront of me, but as they were battling I didn't want to lap them. So I stayed behind for about 1/3 of a lap, but then TT let go of the throttle to let me by, and I couldn't stay behind anymore. Had a good C5R sound infront for the last few metres, which made a mini-boner :P

Tough race with some good battles. Didn't get it right in qual, was on quicker laps a couple times but threw it away. Quite pleased to finish in the top ten though.

Think Zhuhai is the 'Brno' of GTR2. Not the most interesting track offline, but seems to produce good racing. Both NGT & GT sprints have been non-stop action for me.

Heh, quite fun considering i wasnt intending to race tonight.  8)

Jumped into practise about 10 minutes before race start after watching a DVD of this years Le Mans race (gave me the taste for it !) and decided to give the throaty C5 Corvette a blast for the first time. (No Aston to choose  :'( )
Felt comfy straight away in it and set regular 1:30's in my praccy and then repeated the feat in qually. Thought i had set a blinder but then quickly realised every other bugger was putting in 1:28's and 29's   ::)  I for some reason had assumed a 1:30 was a quick GT time  :-[  Only qualied a measly 22nd with a 1:30.4   :o :(

Race start was pretty good, i seemed to have tons more traction out of the corners than the ballerina Lambos and was glued to the back of Lincescom for quite a few laps and had to take some close avoiding actions under braking. :o  Also made up a few places as others had off's and got to the giddy heights of 16th at one point (whoohoo :whistling:). But alas soon my tyres were overheating and the car was getting very unpredictable under braking as i hadnt had time to practise any race setups beforehand and i had to try and fight off the Lambos of Jon M (unusually) and Madd-Rip, failing in both cases, firstly to a rather cool move up the inside by the maestro Jon and then to some sloppy brake slide by myself to allow Madd through. :surrender:
Started to catch Jan later on but then he had some terminal engine fire and dropped out and then i came across TT emerging from the pits  ???  was thinking of having a nice little battle with him but he un-explicably waved me through with a flash of the lights and then came back at me a lap or two later  :fencing:  Didnt know whether to concede the place back or whether he was toying with me  :-\
So in true Mclaren fashion i kept the place  ;D

Amazing pace up front as usual. Enjoyed my few battles but was expecting to be amongst the action a bit more. If anyone hasnt installed it yet, go get the V8 soundpack, the Corvette sounds simply 'real' and is fantastic on every note, from the tickover to full screaming horses.  8) With a better setup, i could be enticed to drive this beast more often.
Congrats to Ruskus on the win.  8)

That was tough. Don't think MC12 is my thing. I wanted to try it in race conditions to see, but I think that'll be the last of that time. Was great turn in, but very twitchy indeed and it was rubbish on the straights compared to the F550 despite the Ferrari having more weight penalty. It was always on edge on the brakes, I had to brake 100% all the way and more to get the damn thing to stop. Running 50:50 Brake Balance meant that was just about possible though. The car looks good though.  ;D 8)

I think I'll go back to my trusty Lambo sooner or later. Haven't used it since GTR1, but it's what I always drove in GT there so going back to what I know.

Race was a nightmare. Concertina effect on pace lap was tough to keep focused on. No matter how people drive there is always the concertina and I had a few times to take evasive action despite trying to drive slow and smooth and not accelerate or brake too hard as others also driving the same around me, but coming up to the hairpins there was always this sudden stop. Oh well.

After the pace lap, the race went from bad to worse. Managed to get by a couple on lap 1/2 but then 2 Ferraris stuck on the track frozen had to be swerved round then another and then finally Ruskus's car for 2 laps straight was nailed on the final bend. 2nd time around even though I could see him there I had to swerve and take avoiding action again and lost about 5 places by T1 from getting back up to speed.

For a while had a battle with some people before I got tapped from behind which put me off the track and lost loads more time. Then after that I came to last turn behind a 550 and he broke much earlier than I expected and I had to take avoiding action. I notice his car was jittering a bit so it may have been a bit of warp that made it look like brake even earlier than I had antipicated. I spun taking avoiding action and my dreadful start was complete.  After that I lost concentration from having a 'mare first 5 laps or so and kept on spinning. Kept Gerald company for a while, but eventually I got my focus back, not long before Ruskus came round to lap me and I was putting in much better pace and not too far off the leaders near the end. I had a car that was twitching occasionally, I assume from the damage, which was very off putting though. I think my pace was ok for the MC12 but with the 'mare start it just wasn't my day.

With missing a couple of races and not really playing much GT in GTR2 I have been trying the different cars in these races to see what they're like and what pace they have. So I may continue that before going back to the Lambo and try the 575 next race. Have done the Viper, Saleen and MC12 now and I do not want to race the 550, so it's just the Lambo, 575 and Vette left.

Ouch yer Jon went off, I looked at him and amost forgot to turn myself running abit wide :D Radius and a Lambo got by then, the Lambo spun out of the turn tho so I got 3rd back. Then had a long fight trying to get past Radius, not very easy in his powerful 550, got a few good runs on him out of some of the slow turns but he was being pesky and driving defensive lines
Finally I had enough of that  :P, and when he went a bit wide I tried first inside but again he tried to block the inside there, then I went outside and I got a just nose ahead in the braking down to the penultimate turn. Figured now or never so I stayed outside in the turn and just prayed I wouldn't get hit on the way out, but nice and fair driving there so I just managed to get the traction out of the turn and was first down to T-last and managed to keep the 550 of my back down the strait. After that I started to pull a gap, Ruskes was alrdy 10s ahead when I got P2, so just had to settle in for 2nd.

Nice fair driving m8!!!! Although i was a bit surprised you managed to get around the outside of me through a hairpin  ;D I was just making very sure i didnt touch so maybe was a bit too carefull!!!

Was very surprised to see Jon off at T1, as soon as i saw smoke i jumped on the brakes as i though CJ would be braking hard too but i pumped them and made the turn :D:D:D

...you deserved second and a good race!!!

..btw i will be the toughest b***tard to pass but ill always play fair  ;) ;D

Once again it shows that I am the least reliable part of my car :) Qualified 8th just a notch slower than my PB. I was quite pleased to see that gap to Ruskus was so small - I slowly begin to understand handling in GTR2. Just hope to catch up with you guys before season 5 begins.

During formation lap there were no serious problem. I really appreciate admin chat info just before we begin - nice job! I tried to drive conservative during first two laps which resulted in FreQ overtaking me. Considering he was trying to drive on the edge with cold tires I thought he would quickly have some problems. Enough to say that he didn't disappoint me :D

It would be nice and dull race if not the stationary car at last corner, which made me run wide and loose several positions. Then I lost my concentration twice more (in the same spot) spinning and hitting the barrier. Fortunately my car went undamaged and I was able to finish 13th.

Nice to see so many 28CD cars on track!

Congratulations to the podium guys!

I had a good and bad race ;D Bad due to me missing my braking point on turn 1 of lap 1 but good because of the battles that followed. Everybody was very consistent and fair.Great driving standard all the way through the grid 8) overtaking the Ferrari's was very hard. Them beasts just drive away down the straight :o Great race all.
Nice little report thingy that last page Ruskus. Just a pity my name's mentioned so much on lap 1 ;)
Grats to Ruskus on another fine win 8)

Firstly i want to apoligise to Aagram for giving him a tap at the slow hairpin,  sorry m8 i did'nt mean to hit you there

During qually i got disconnected and could not rejoin as it kept saying the game was full, so i restarted the game and luckly enuff got back in.  Managed to get 11th spot for the race.

Race starts and heading into T1 i start to brake and quickly realise that im on collision course with Locutus who seemed to brake fairly hard and early.  So i flick the car off track to avoid hitting him. :-\  Lost 8 places and was furious with myself. >:(

Rejoined in race in 19th place and got settled,  and was enjoying the race. Got myself up to 9th place and was having a hard scrap with Aagram ;D.  Then exiting T3 i got a run on him but his car looked wobbly and i couldnt really pull along side, so i backed off before heading into the slow hairpin.  But even tho i backed off i still manage to run into the back of him :-[.  So after that i felt Dangerous and decided to call it a day.

Also couldnt see any cars from 7th place onwards, and its the same for every race.  Anyone else have this problem ??

Congrats to Ruskus

Firstly i want to apoligise to Aagram for giving him a tap at the slow hairpin,  sorry m8 i did'nt mean to hit you there

...

Saw you back out of a dangerous situation at the previous corner which was smart thinking, it's tough to fit two cars through that fast kink. Was a shame your tap sent me into a spin as we'd been having a great scrap up to then, but no big deal.

Also couldnt see any cars from 7th place onwards, and its the same for every race.  Anyone else have this problem ??

Have you checked your 'max visible cars' setting in the graphics options?

Hey guys,

Sounds like it was an interesting race, wish I was part of it. Hopefully sometime soon.

Regards
Colin

Race starts and heading into T1 i start to brake and quickly realise that im on collision course with Locutus who seemed to brake fairly hard and early.  So i flick the car off track to avoid hitting him. :-\  Lost 8 places and was furious with myself. >:(

Yeah, was a bit early, but cold tyres and brakes and I could see some1 was off ahead lead me to be a bit cautious. Learnt my lesson the hard way in previous seasons, you cant win on the 1st corner of the 1st lap... saw you in my mirror and thought "oh sh*t"" nice job of avoiding m8.

Good race with some fun scraps. Then about 3/4 through got passed by Stnaskys viper, man that cars fast on the straight, was hard pressed to keep him in sight. 2 laps to go and Stnasky and Aagy have a coming together which I was hoping for, picked up the pieces and got home in 8th.

Lol, I said that as MJ told ingame chat that he had one ;D

hehe, indeed, it made changing gear more fun  ;)  ;D....ooh, the upshifts

But seriously, the Corvette add on sounds are the best and most realistic in game by far. Even the rev-limiter sounds real.  8)
My whole floor was vibrating from the sub-woofer ! :)

Another great race all!
This league stuff is top notch!!

Looked at the lap times from the endurance event and was very pleased when I was in the 1.30 somethings in qual trim!!
Then of course you guys come back with 1.28's!! u guys are sooo good!!

Got a nice race set up for regular 1.32's but couldn't even stick to that! Brain was definitely scrambled!!
Too many minor unforced errors!
Apologies to Ruskus and Martin, nearly took you both out when you were lapping me!
A slide sideways mid corner made you prove you were good drivers!!
Sorry guys!!

Dave, Is 26 the limit on the server or the pit boxes!?
We had a full turn out ! I nearly could join!!
I realise I'm a reserve so fair enough!?
Would hate to miss out!

M.

On the server. It's physically capable of running 28 but we have less problems with 26 so that's what we've stuck with.

As long as you joined in Practice 2 or later that's fine; it's unfortunate when full timers lose their connection or have some other problem that means they have to disconnect after Practice 1 and can't get back in, but that's life. :-\

It's one thing I hope they've addressed in the new patch cause it's daft the software having 28 slots when we found it only copes with 26.

I suspect some clients aren't using the 'ISDN' data-rate setting, which may be causing some problems. It's a shame the server can't force the data-rate setting. That would be nice.
