Easter break fun 2021 - We visit the 1971 version of the Watkins Glen 71 interim circuit.

Rolling Start!

Start procedure:
Overtaking is prohibited until the exit of the Loop!

Flagman gives the start.

The polesitter drives ahead with moderate speed and the others follow in a single line with safe distances.
At the exit of the Loop the race is released.

Handicapping
"Works" drivers will not use works cars.

In the CA66 race only privateers can use the M1B 361ci and Lola T70 359ci,
in the CA71 race only privateers can use the M8F and T260.

Resets will be allowed (there is no need to carry out a Stop and Go in the pit lane if you make a Shift-R).

This looks to be the unusual 1971 version, and not the 1948 we all know and love.  :D

Unable to join Server using GlenCA71 and glen1948.  So installed watgCA71. :angel: Unzipped 'no sound' option from inside track folder, and tested Armco strength Online.

Well I wish I was.. doing ok in the 66 cars so far. But still yet to practice with the 71s.

Will manage half an hour later today. ::)

I have though got a feeling that this will be FUN !  :)

I don't know much about the CanAm 71s yet so this will be a steep learning curve for me. I've done a few laps of Glen71 now but I don't recognise a single corner when I try to relate it to the Papy track. I'll need my SatNav for sure.

71s were a bit different for me . no real practice ( Honest Pete!)  then just picked the Shadow because it had mirrors and I ve seen Cookie going fast in the thing.

managed a decent setup in record time and totally blasted my previous best. very happy with my qualifying Time.

then decided i needed a quick change of gear ratios and missed the star.. DOH !!!

ah well. it was fun while it lasted.. hope you all had a great race. 

I had a strange program shutdown in the 90° - gpl.exe just stopped,  not a freeze...

That may have been what happened to me in the 66s

I had the Freeze, as I always call it but I came out of GPL to taskmanager and it stated that the Papyrus window had stopped responding?

and I think GPL.exe was still running.
not sure if that helps?

Axel - where did you go in Race 2? We were having fun.

Not a poker player. I just had a bit of time this afternoon to get these monster cars dialled in. TIP: Smoothly does it. I'll share my set-up on CustomRank if you like. These cars seem to suit us right-foot brakers.

To be honest Pete I might ask for all of your setups.

Shame about my muppet moment at the start of the 71s. Think it would have been a good race. I'm also getting the hang of the CanAms.  Been slowly improving all season. Totally loving GPL again.

It seems the track has some severe problems, good to know, but we have the good and save papy WG  ;)

Yep, I found in 71 race that more slow/smooth I went more fast I was. They aren't cars to throw in the turns and the high gears are preferred to get the high tourque in the esses of Glen for example.

Race 1 - some early glitching meant reducing ingame graphics.  Discovered the problem was caused by the final corner creeping further up the hill on every 3rd lap.  Lost two places, and New York State nearing race end.

Race 2 - locked again in a gargantuan, hammer & tongs, ding dong, battle with Phil.  I think I was the hammer, and he was the victor.

Fun racing, but an inconsiderate track.  These cars need a Brno, or a Sachsenring with a full grid, to exploit their full potential. :laugh:

Yes that seems a hint for the track makers - my ctd was there in race 2...

Thanks for that link, Axel.  I was really keen on pulling down the CA66 replay cap to see Phil & I go toe-to-toe through T1 and up through the Esses.  That was exhilarating to say the least!  Great job, PT.  :)
