Title: UKGPL Season 38 (Spring 2021) 1965 F1 - Pro - Snetterton - Jun 1
Post by: Phil Thornton on May 31, 2021, 10:36:22 AM +0100
Season 38 1965F1 – Round 10 – Professionals - Snetterton

For the final round we are at Snetterton in the UK. Like Silverstone, Snetterton was originally an RAF airfield (RAF Snetterton Heath), which after a short time hosting the USAF, fell into disuse in 1948. The standard runway layout is similar to Silverstone but the peritracks are different which has fortuitously resulted in a different track layout to Silverstone. The vast stretches of tarmac were first used for motor racing in 1953 when the Snetterton Combine (an association of clubs in Norfolk and Suffolk) organised a motorcycle race. The first automobile race was organised by the West Essex Car Club and was held on 14th August 1954. The International Trophy Meeting (https://www.progcovers.com/motor/snetterton540814.pdf) hosted a variety of classes with Reg Parnell winning the Formula 1 event in a Ferrari 625. Paddock Bend was revised in 1965 and it is this "1967" layout we are using tonight.

Definitely a Screen Freeze? Not a Crash to Desktop?

Freeze for me too. And in a similar place that Tristan had his freeze. But mine was a few laps later

Sorry for the contact at the hairpin, Clive.  :(  It was shaping up to be a fun race with you. Hate to see that there were screen freezes.

Yes Tom, it was shaping up to be fun.
Also apologies to the following cars that became involved. I thought that I had just enough room to squeeze past Tom and had nailed the gas. But the GPL gods decided that they would stop any such move and a small touch on my front wheel sent the car all ways  :-\

Very disappointed to read of so many discos. In years past we ran races on many different tracks and, yes there was the random disco/screen freeze . Maybe 1 in 3 races saw someone dropped out, but recently we appear to be having 3-4 victims in some races??? There have always been "bad" tracks. There was even an issue with the Papyrus version of Spa as I recall, with a dangerous spot just as you reached the beginning of the pits. Get too close to the inside edge and your race ended suddenly.  :scared:
With modern internet speeds and improved tech it would be reasonable to think that these incidents would reduce??

Sorry to learn of the discos/freezes, chaps.  Ditto for Axel getting beached on a berm from the lead no less.

Grats to Tom on a fine win!  TJ and I have sparred regularly for the last 15-odd years so we pretty much no what each other is about.  Getcha next time, TJ!  :)

A solid P3 for Fulvio.  Well done.

I wasn't even sure that I'd enter this round.  I had a miserable night's sleep and was out of sorts as qualifying approached.  I only managed several laps to log a time and loaded race gas.  That the fates actually had me get a short taste of the lead late in the going was a surprise indeed.  All in all, I can't be too displeased with a fighting P2.

Thanks to the club for organizing!

tough race. i got caught by clive's turn around and lost much time to get unstuck.

I caught Andreas, but noticed it will get difficult to stay ahead when the fuel went low.
Just finished on 1.3 liters, stuttering engine when accelerating out of the very last corner.
Could have been a podium finish for sure.

are this race results missing on the championship page ?
