Season 38 1965F1 – Round 10 – Amateurs - Snetterton

For the final round we are at Snetterton in the UK. Like Silverstone, Snetterton was originally an RAF airfield (RAF Snetterton Heath), which after a short time hosting the USAF, fell into disuse in 1948. The standard runway layout is similar to Silverstone but the peritracks are different which has fortuitously resulted in a different track layout to Silverstone. The vast stretches of tarmac were first used for motor racing in 1953 when the Snetterton Combine (an association of clubs in Norfolk and Suffolk) organised a motorcycle race. The first automobile race was organised by the West Essex Car Club and was held on 14th August 1954. The International Trophy Meeting (https://www.progcovers.com/motor/snetterton540814.pdf) hosted a variety of classes with Reg Parnell winning the Formula 1 event in a Ferrari 625. Paddock Bend was revised in 1965 and it is this "1967" layout we are using tonight.

Handicapping:
There will be no handicapping.  Drivers have a free choice of chassis. Unlimited number of Shift-Rs are allowed with no need to make a Stop and Go.

Only reported incidents will be moderated.

Please, excepting emergencies, no chat until Session Completed in qualification. No chat in the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Hi all. I'm afraid that I'm not going to be able to make this last round. School holidays and a relaxing of the lock-down rules means that a family visit is unavoidable. Family first  ;D

Shame though as Snetterton is one of my favourites.

Well that was a very disappointing end to the season. I ran for 30 mins in qually without any issues. Then with 15mins to go I got a CTD. Rejoined numerous times but got a CTD. Rebooted PC, deleted the 65.exe re-joined but still CTD. Managed to join the server with 3 seconds of qually left. Lined up on the grid for the start but after 2 seconds CTD.

I've had this before quite recently, can't remember what race. I'll have to go back and check.

*** Update *** It was the last round at not so Funabashi (not much fun here either  >:()

Eric was disconnected too.
No troubles for the 5 other racers.

Sounds as though Pros had their own similar issues.

I missed the race for other reasons.
Every time I unplug my wheel / pedals I have to recalibrate them. No problem with the wheel (Thrustmaster) but it takes multiple attempts to get the pedals (Fanatec) right. I'm so fed up with them I was intending to convert the 3 pedal set to a 2 pedal arrangement & just dump the load cell. Unfortunately the connections only allow for the 3 pedal box to plug into the USB port. I reassembled them but could not get anything like a stable configuration before the race.
Not sure if the problem is me or the equipment but I am seriously unimpressed with Fanatec.

Philippe made me work so hard for the win that I want to watch te last few laps replay.

To be fair, he just didn't win for a little mistake at the hairpin in early laps that alowed me to take the lead. From then on he was lapping faster and faster closing the gap and in the last lap he could pass me in the back straight if I didn't take the defesive inside line. Well done  :yes:

Sounds like another night of CTDs and freezes. Such a shame. Just out of interest, which carset were you using? LITE65 or FULL65? Maybe there's a link there.

Sounds as though Leo and Philippe were having fun there. Also, I've done the maths and I reckon that when the Sandown result is confirmed, the Championship is Dave's. Huge congratulations.
