NoGrip Legacy HTC Championship 2021
Cadwell Park Endurance
7th of June, 2021

Season first Endurance. Points are upgraded for raised effort.

Server & Car Pack Info
- Server Name: NG Legacy HTC Server
- Password: will be revealed in normal UKGTL fashion.
- Car pack version: 1.1

Race
Track: Cadwell 2 hours.
Track download: *DOWNLOAD* (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1sNM0_gMsqip7VaWt4CwAdVfqdDIzoX1R/view?usp=sharing)
Allowed Classes: Division ½ classes.
  • under 500 cc
  • 500 - 700 cc

Qualifying:
25 minutes, starts at 19:40 BST.
- no entry to the track during first 10 minutes for 500 - 700cc cars.
- no entry to the track during last 10 minutes for 500cc cars.

Race:
Length 2 hours.
- lapcount set to redicilously high. Race ends when 2 hours is in clock and leading car crosses the start line
- Race starts at approx. 20:05 BST.

Race Notes:
if you are familiar with player profile editing, you can set the game announce your every XX seconds how much race time is left:
Find from .PLR file Race Timer="0" line from [ Race Conditions ] block and replace the zero with amount of seconds between announcements. If you want to get note in every 5 minutes, 5 x 60 seconds = 300 --> replace the "0" with "300".

Remember to change the value back to zero after the race as otherwise GT Legends keeps telling you race time left in every race. Game itself does not make difference between the time based and lap based races, but it is happy which one (lap count or the time) comes first fullfilled. So it is quite funny that message tells you having 3 hours left in 5 laps quick race, if you forgot it on. :D

Track notes:
As the Cadwell isn't too heavy for nowadays systems, I upgraded the shadows for this track variation. With full shadows, you get complete dynamic texture shadows. You can test the performance running quick race at 15:00 virtual race time and with 20-36 opponents. If your system is really old (more than 7-8 years), you might get worse performance with full shadows than with the original track variation. In this case, just turn the shadows off and you get the same performance as in old version.

Scoring:
  • Both classes score points separately. As this needs a more effort, points get upgraded as well: Winner of each class receives 17 points, 2nd in each class receives 15 points, 3rd 13, 4th 10, 5th 8, 6th 6, 7th 4, 8th 2, 9th 1 point.
  • Overall winner of the race scores additional 2 points.
  • Start in a class where driver has not started yet in this season, scores automatically 3 additional points.
  • Note that you can start maximum of 5 times in each engine class.

I haven't decided yet if I'm going to do this one. I like Cadwell but not for two hours in these tiny cars. We'll see.

A little bemused here.

Did a few laps offline at Cadwell in these noisy wheelbarrows and then thought, "better check that all is OK with server etc"?

get "Track not Installed" message from server?  Is there a different CADWELL file ?

All fine here Clive. Try installing the circuit again and be sure you put it in Locations folder.

Download the track from download link in race invitation, please. The package has two layouts which new one has the race time length adjusted. That variation is not available anywhere else than in this exact download.

Great track - car combo.

Returned from my holidays three hours ago after 5 hours on German highways and was really satisfied with my laptimes without any practice.

During race I had either eye issues or graphic issues - especially at The Mountain - which led to several offs and eye pain.
So I had to quit.

I had everything planned out for pre race practice...
But then the reality decided to otherwise. I did run 4 laps when I released the track download link. After that all my free time vanished to something else than practice, which put me slightly worried as I like Cadwell Park and my performance has varied during the years. In 2019 I won the under 850cc class which was the lowest class back then. Last year was not so good.

As I mentioned, I did do 4 laps in last Monday evening, but unfortunately I forgot to save the setup. So, about an hour before the race, I had to redo the setup and especially the gear ratios can be crucial here with cars low on power. As a last thing before joining the server, I decided to up the final ratio just a notch so that with full tank there's only one place where car hits the limiter, but then again the uphill S corner in halfway of the track was doable with 3rd gear if the line was correct. But as I did the last change just before qualify, it was risky move. Nevertheless I was very surprised to find myself from the fastest spot of lower class after qualify.

Start was okay'ish... lost some places but that did not really matter. I was a having great time.
Neither seemed to matter the big racing incident in left hander after the downhill: Probably it was Tony who went to the skid in front of me about 50 meters from me by over turning to left and I was not worried as I was heading to go around the happenings from outside... however there was someone else inside so, Tony suddenly jumped back towards outside and I had time to realize that we will hit. I did make the contact smaller maneuvering to the right, but spinned on wheels 180 degrees stopping about 10-15 meters from track. I am not sure about my position after that but for some reason it did not matter that much. I just decided to start the race from zero, like nothing would happened. In next 10-15 laps I had some great battles against every one in same class, last being Nocatu. After overtaking him I mental boosted myself to concentrate with thinking how it went two years ago... I promised myself that I can ease the pace when I have 40 seconds or more lead. For some reason, I did not lose my concentration even once during the race and was able to keep the pace all way to the end.

Everything went super smoothly. Pitstops, being lapped... If I followed right, did not have even single cut track warning. Only one small hick up in some point when Daz was lapping me; I was too keen to get slipstream and side to side we had small contact. Sorry about that.  :-\

Other than that, most likely one of the best races I have done in these 17 years.  IIRC, my first (class) win since 2019 Spa.  :)

Congrats to Daz, Dimitar and Suti for bigger class podium and Tony & Nocatu for smaller class 2nd and 3rd. :)
There's one hillclimb before the summer break from which we will return to Zolder for twin race "warm up" before the 4hours 18 minutes massive Marathon De La Route wil melt our brains. :)

As Nappe said above, gearing in these low powered cars can make quite a difference....

I know Cadwell very well, cracking circuit to drive :thumbup1:, although the Mountain section is always a problem if I'm honest.

I had a setup from last year, and once I had played with the gearing I found that I could go low 41s consistently, with a best lap of 1.40.5 offline. Was relieved to be able to repeat that in quali, doesn't always happen!

Jumped off the line and away in first, Suti gave hard chase for the first 10 laps or so, before then falling back. He then must have had an error of some description as Dimitar was now 2nd. I knew I had the edge in raw pace, but Dimitar is so consistent that beating him in these longer races is a challenge of a different kind than just outright speed :sweatdrop:. Felt really comfortable though, sat on a 15 second lead, but then span ridiculously into the mountain, costing me most of that lead . Got going just in front of DD, and then just pulled away a little before the fuel was starting to run low into the pit stop window.

Saw that all of a sudden the gap to Dimitar was going up rapidly, but it did not say he was pitted in XD so wondered if he had gone off ???. Went into the pits with a 50 second lead or so, and just took my time to get it all right as I thought I had a decent gap. However, when I exited, Dimitar was less than a second behind. This had me confused for a while, as I thought he must be stopping soon, but another couple of laps made me realise he must have pitted and it was just a problem with the display in XD for some reason :o.

I still had just a little more pace, but the gap was much smaller at the end of the first stint in terms of laptime. In trying to push away from DD, I then span it on the way to the mountain again, and by the time I had recovered I was over 10 seconds behind :clown:  :hammer:.

Now, to say I was annoyed with myself doesn't even get close. I had lead the race for over an hour by this point, and throwing that away in this fashion was enough to make me get a little hot under the collar. I spent the next lap fighting the red mist that threatened to wash over me  :cursing: :taz:. However, I checked the clock, and calculated we still had around 50 minutes to run, time to get my skates on properly.....

It's the old conundrum of being easier to chase than lead. I found I was much better able to concentrate now that I had a target to aim at. The car was sweet, tires barely touched in terms of wear (no need to change them here for sure), and I was able to put some rhythm together. Dimitar responded initially to my speed, getting himself into back the 1.40s for a couple of laps. I had worked out that he was much quicker than me through the mountain section at the end of the lap, I think he must have been able to use 2nd gear vs me in 3rd, but I was faster in the fast corners in the first and second sectors of the lap and overall I was able to make more time there than he could in the mountain section in sector 3.

I was now doing fastest laps one after the other, and going quicker than I did in quali. Once I had got within range, and caught a little slipstream, I zoomed past, which again I took to mean our gearing was different. Was determined not to balls it up again, and so kept the speed high to push a gap, and keep concentration up. Ended up taking the win, first time for me in one of the enduros I think..... :jumpjoy:

I have one apology to make. Clive, I am so sorry for the contact, it looked like you were leaving the outside line for me to turn into the final bend with, so set up on the wide line, but then I think your car had a little wobble and the contact just could not be avoided. I was desperate to give you racing room, but it looked for all the world as though that was not the case there. the last thing I wanted to do was just send a big one of the inside and take you by surprise.....Was really narked at the fact you ended up off the road.

Nappe, was not a problem, certain sections of the track were tight even in these little cars.

Grats to all the finishers.

Another awesome fight with Daz. This time it was for 2 hours.

I was getting better and better with the car and even though i was able to go 1 second faster in the race then the qualy he was still faster. Fantastic Daz as always.

I gave everything and had great strategy - i was waiting for errors from Daz as i knew very well i don't have the pace to fight with him in that department.

After Suti made a mistake i was now able to go in P2 and able to make him some gap, so this gave me the opportunity to concentrate on Daz. He made 2 errors which cost him around 20-25 seconds and this let me in the battle for the win.

Unfortunately as i had more wear on the front tires at the end i had too much understeer and Daz quickly disappear, winning the race.

At the end i am really happy with my performance and consistency. Maybe i will catch him next time! :)

Not the best choice the small class and the Suzuki, it was a long time ... my eyes stung.
Hopefully better results for the next one ...  ;)
The circuit is superb but with big losses of fps (I had between 120 to 45 !!)
