Welcome to round 6 of the 1st UKAC GPL67 Series

Fonteny is the most recent creation from FatAlfie - but unlike the others is fictional-ish....
These are real French roads but turned into a 1960's loonatic road course to challenge the Nurburgring - When I said you wanted to start practicing about a month ago I wasn't kidding, this one is 26KMs long...

Qualifying is remaining @ 15 minutes, this will give time for 1 flying lap - I'll be changing the wait times to ensure that people can finish. It's upto you if you want to go flat out and risk a null time or just go for a banker ;)

I've put a flying lap in the BRM together to give you some pointers, this will hopefully help speed the learning process for those of you who haven't started yet.

https://youtu.be/0UvhfihIRe4 (https://youtu.be/0UvhfihIRe4)

If you look in the track folder you will also find a pretty good drivers handbook which explains the various sections of track and gives some driving hints.

Damage and fuel use:

100% damage
100% fuel use
0% Tire wear (This is actually far more accurate than the mods' built in wear rate and 'fixes' the BRM)
Drivers must complete 50% of each race to score.

With the above in mind you will want to treat the first lap or two very carefully while your tires warm up and you adapt to driving on a heavy fuel load.
The 1st lap will be moderated as far as Cascade

As per the 1967 F1 scoring system, each driver will discard their worst 2 scores when the points are calculated at the end of the season (Done for you in LM2)

BoP will be as follows:

Lotus & Eagle = 40Kgs
Ferrari           = 30Kgs

There will be no success ballast.

Practice: 19:30 (45 mins)
Qual: 20:15 (15 mins)
Race: 20:30  (6 laps)

Track:
 Fonteny
https://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/fonteny.30137/ (https://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/fonteny.30137/)

Cars allowed:
3l 1967 F1 from the GPL67 mod.
I've put them on dropbox for now as the original download was apparently VERY slow:

Instructions on installing the carset can be found in the 2nd post of the registration thread - here: https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=24972.msg480312#msg480312 (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=24972.msg480312#msg480312)

Could you at least turn off cut track warnings?
I don't think anybody (except you) is particularly excited to drive this track. But really, if I put in 25 minutes, just to have it all nullified for going slightly wide somewhere, while going at 75% of the possible speed, I don't think I'm going to bother coming back.

In theory I have done now - Although I can't see why not getting a time would stop someone practising?
Surely that's an even bigger incentive to practice more

I'm not actually going to learn the track. I'm going to drive by reading the signs on the side of the track, like I was driving with my car through the french country side, which is how I see this race :) Just want to see that 15 minute lap time recorded on the server.

Well, laps still don't count on stracker, so I guess that's that.

I've restarted the server for you Kimi - if that doesn't fix it then it must be something at your end ???

Similar thing happend "couple" series back ( 2 years or so ), then it was track or server related issue. I'll test it later, btw Jari have same problem.

Not sure if I'll make this after all. I'm out all day cycling tomorrow so depends what time and what state I'm in when I get home.

A fellow cyclist?  ;D
Road or MTB? I'm MTB'er, just got my first full suspension bike a few weeks back. Nothing like a relaxing 50km ride onto some mountain top (or why do you torture yourself like that as my father would put it  ;D ).

I am also a cyclist, or rather, I was. I have been cycling at a competitive level for several years. Since I was short of time due to work, I have quit. It's been a couple of years that I started cycling again, but without competing, just as a hobby (only because a friend convinced me to start again ;D).
Road cycling.

Syd, 50 km in offroad are good. The distance for long mountain bike races are roughly on that mileage.

Haha, simracers seem to be either cyclists or guitarists or both.

I have this 90's mtb which is great for the type of riding I do. It's slicked up for the summer so nice and quick on the lanes as long as I stay clear of mud! I'm off to South Wales tomorrow in the western part of the Brecon Beacons which is very quiet and stunningly beautiful. I'm planning to do around 30 miles with a stop off for lunch at a little cafe. It's all mountains so I'll be knackered by the time I get home.

An mtb with no suspension and v-brakes. Now, that is old school  ;D
Since we're sharing, this is the new one:

I'm getting bike envy  :) Amazing how much the geometry and technology has developed over the years.

Looks like a lovely part of the world Syd.

I don't know what's wrong with you lot. My MTB has rust on most of it ;D
It's only used for riding to the pub though or around to friends when drinking, the dog has made cycling pointless and slightly suicidal over long distances...

Very similiar words here, except I don't have a dog....or friends.  :wetfish:

Dogs help you to increase the speed when you are on bike. They want chaise you...  :D

Kai doesn't, I discovered when she was young that she finds it highly amusing to stop sideways in front of me when I was running with her....
Add 10mph to that and I'll simultaneously run her over and break my neck!

Stupid BRM and their stupid gearbox cost me that one - 4th to 1st and KABOOM!

By the time my numptys had finished fitting random valve springs and pistons back into the wrong places I rejoined some 4 minutes or so behind the remaining field.
Given I only had 2 or 3 laps of racing left at that point I'm pretty pleased with the gap I closed, but furious over missing my strongest round in the series >:(

Well, that was in interesting race.
Only five of us, but it didn't surprise me that many drivers stayed away from this track.
Didn't qualify into 4th. At the start Fabri pulled to the side and I got the jump on Kimi, so I was second. Then I managed to hit the first wall you can hit after the start, around 4th corner. Crew chief reported I had a bent suspension, and the car was definitely more lively after that, but was still driveable. Then still on first lap I managed to scrape a fence, and crew chief this time reported I had some aero damage. It probably influenced my top speed, but the car felt the same. By this time Jari was all over me, and managed to pass me for second. After that I calmed down, and managed to avoid hitting stuff. I still went off somewhere at least once a lap, so no valid laps for the entire race :). At the front Tim was way ahead as expected, and Jari was pulling away as well. But then, on lap 3, I heard crew chief saying the leader was pitting. After the race I found out Tims gearbox blew up the engine. So I was now second, probable 20-30 seconds behind Jari and similar time ahead of Fabri. At some point on lap 4, I got the leader pitting message again. I guess Jari had a crash. So now I was leading with less then half the race to go. I kept improving my times, but that one-two smaller off was still going on. I got lap times down to 9 07, and on the last lap I was up on that as well. I had I think over a minute lead, and I kept pushing it, thinking I might be able to brake 9 minutes and with about 1km to go I crashed hard into one of those observation boxes on the side of the track. Not very smart. I blew out both front tires, and bent the suspension on both front wheels. But hey, I'm way ahead, let's try to get going. And going I did, with the wheel at about 90 degrees to the left to go straight. It was almost impossible to steer, but somehow I managed to get it through those last 4-5 turns and finish  ;D
No doubt a real lucky win, but I'm not complaining.

This round was really hard. I wasn't able to memorize the track, so I went slowly throughout the race. Despite this, I took a cabin and made 2 excursions on the grass, but without destroying the car.

Great race, Syd!

Tim, unfortunately an unfortunate event (or rather the gearbox is reversed on that car for some reason). Here you were truly from another planet, even more so than usual. I would say "bad luck", but I'm afraid someone else will get angry and do rage-quit.

I think you did not understand me correctly. I did not rage-quit, I quit because I donĀ“t want to feel more frustration and anger on top of my "real-life" misery.
