Shark, I've put you down as server start if that's okay.

Picnic, are you able to put the cars and tracks (two downloads) onto the server in time or do Shark or I need to do it?

Note that this is a test race, partly to verify correct installation of the cars and tracks, partly to test the combination online, and partly to judge the level of interest. Being a Friday night we don't expect a big turnout, but if you can attend, even if it's just for part of practice or qualifying, that would be advantages if you're interested in taking part in an official championship.

Silverstone isn't the most interesting of tracks and it's visually unappealing in this form, but it's easy to learn (many of us will know most of the layout from GPL) and good for racing.

Argh, of all the nights, this Friday is a no go for me. :'( :'(
You can add me to the list of people interested, but I can't make this one as I already have plans. Can you start the server Giz?

I can start the server on Friday, no problem. We could move the race to Wednesday, but that's not a lot of warning and I probably won't be able to attend.

I'm actually dl Rfactor now, already got the '79 mod dl'ed, so I may be able to quickly join after my Race to play race on Friday, it'll be a bit tight  but I'll give it a go.

No leave it where it is. If I can't make it that's just tough. You gain one you lose another so it's no big deal.

20% power diff, 80% coast. Reduce steering lock. Lower brake pressure. Add wing. Raise ride height.
I can send my driveable setup when I get home if you still need it by then. I hate twitchy cars so getting a driveable setup is always the most important thing for me. Lap 1 cold tyres though so they will always be hard until the tyres are warm.

oh damn, i just cant make this friday eve, i'm already pre-booked out with the missus for a meal  :'(

But count me in on the very interested bracket !  I'm intending to compete in the R2P Historic F1 series thats going to run on thursday eves before our GTL events, but if we end up having our own championship i perhaps wont need to.

Just what I was thinking. I think there has to be a critical mass from our current members that need to want to take part and if there is then we can advertise a lot on other places to get the numbers up.

I've just loaded up Silverstone for the first time with this mod and I'm getting a weird and offputting 'stripey' effect with the clouds, I'm assuming it's not supposed to be like that!?!

Is there a fix?

Put the detail on full or run a higher DX level. It is a known problem with bad tracks in RF

They are in your UserData folder for your player. Just open them up and find the line "Money" and give yourself whatever you want.

Here (http://www.simongymer.teamshark.org.uk/files/SG 79 Q.svm)'s my F1 79 base setup (as it is currently). You'll need to change the gearing for your particular car and track combo. May or may not suit you, I just find it more driveable than the default or Gregors Alien setups.

Man, those standing starts are hard in these cars :-\

They're great, much easier than GPL.
The digital clutch is actually not just on/off, it lets it out a bit gradually which helps.

1.27's  :o who let you use a Turbo!! I managed to get a 1.45 in the FW07, I've been trying to use the FW06 to get the same times...Doh! what a pig to drive! Will you get a mismatch online if you use the Mega bucks CCR profile tweak? Looking forward to Friday a bit more with a somewhat more stable car too.

Managed a 1:28.6 in the Wolf Cosworth. Is that a slow or fast car? Still learning the braking points to be honest.

The bump on that mickey mouse chicane at the end is a bummer. The bridge on the final straight before the chicane you can simply drive through and I wonder if you can straight line the last chicane as the corner cutting points seem a bit dodgy. Silverstone conversion looks very amateur night.

If I'm lucky I'll get my new drive Thursday and be able to join you people on Friday ,but not sure I'll be able to make it :-[

I had to give the Wolf a go, I consider it 'mine' with the James Hunt connection  ;D

I also managed a 1:28.6 in it, it's definately a bit more twitchy than the Tyrell but only marginally slower and probably just as quick in the right hands.

I was quite surprised at how different the layout is to the circuit we've raced with GTR2 but I'm with Dave really, as a '79 test race it's ideal, wide and plenty of run-off!

I tried (mostly unintentionally :D) quite a few different lines through the final chicane, you can cut it a fair bit but often I ended up horribly out of shape and slower becuase of it. On my fastest laps I did in the Tyrell I definately had two wheels on the racing surface (as per SRouk rules). I'm guessing a better driver than me might be able to exploit it though :-\

Rad, go over to the RSC rF modding forum, under 'classic racing'? you will find some track updates to Silverstone and Jarama?
All of these 79 tracks need some good artwork modding. I think the mod team quite rightly concentrated on the car physics, sounds etc and probably by their own admission, track art is not their forte.  :-\
With the interest level in the 79 series i am sure someone will get to work on them soon  8)

They have unique names which start with "79" so there shouldn't be mismatches.

Looks aside, it's the right track to start with once you've got the hang of the simple flowing corners. If we do another Kayalami is also a great drive with an interesting layout and nice changes in elevation. I'm hoping very much that no-one will turn up on the night "for a quick bash" with the '79 mod and end up causing a pile up. The double-hardness needs everyone to be double-careful around each other!

Actually the Flobbo's?? Mods to Silverstone at least seem to give the track a little more....atmosphere, doing 1.28 atm in the FW07 so seeing as I'm around (very around) the sort of times you're all doing I'm pretty happy, oh and it is a truly excellent series. Looking forward to a few races.....fingers crossed!
More practice needed!

Downloaded the mod (+ the 1150 patch - haven't played rFactor for about a year) this afternoon. Took quite a while to adjust to the lack of steering feedback, but then started to get in the groove with the Williams. Last lap was a 1.23.2, and I'm sure more aggresive cutting at the chicane would improve that. Also tried the Wolf and it felt really bad in comparison, so I parked very quickly.

I do think it's about time they split up the forum into different forums running on different machines as the software was never designed to run that many groups, topics and posts.

I upgraded the Brabham, but that sucked. They fitted a front spoiler and the engine sounds like a child that's being slapped :-X.

Better stick the to the wingless brabham, which is a handfull, but boy is it fast in a straight line.

Why is there a stupid dip before s/f, really hard to get through there :-[

I've not had much time behind the wheel of anything other than the Ligier, so that'll be my choice.

Hope to run some more laps this afternoon, just to get a bit more consistency and not have anyone shaking their first at me as they go by!

OK, so mostly the faster cars but no Williams yet. The nicest one I've driven so far is the Ligier, so maybe I'll try that.

Most likely the Williams for me, I've just not had the time to try the others yet, although that may change by this evening!

The Williams for me is noticeably more 'planted' than any other car- the difference in other cars between using the default set-up and having a well dialed in one perhaps. I'm interested in the now defunct F1 teams though, where I can be rose-tinted without it being spoiled by the image of the modern android managed and driven teams

Like the Lotus, the Tyrell and the Ligier myself.

The Servers not showing in the Lobby, not sure if it's anything we should be concerned about for tonight's race?

A couple of times I've had to close and re-open the lobby to see it again. Think it's an rFactor issue with the lobby. Maybe something to do with "Concurrent Server Updates" in your multiplayer.ini. I have it set to 400, but not sure that is enough even.

I've just restarted the server so come and join us as it seems happy again. Something went very wrong with it as, although I seemed to be able to connect, the server never saw me and I ended up with the wrong circuit details  :-\

Even had to kill rF from Task Manager as it would not go on its own.

I'm getting "matchmaking temporarily unavailable". :(

If you get a race list but no server, maybe this will help:
Found a netutl plugin update for rFactor but this failed to show more servers in my list, I then changed the entry for Concurrent Server Updates in the multiplayer.ini to "500"

My old value was 200. The comment is misleading as it says defaults to 40 which should be good for everyone, broadband users could up this to 20-30 for faster server lists if desired

Bah! Really disappointed with that, I'd practiced hard :(

Like a complete idiot I did one lap too many during qualifying (though the counter said I'd done 5 laps? I guess that's something you get used to...) so I started at the back which was fine as it was my own fault.

Unfortunately I hit Don while he merrily span across the track hitting him with quite a thump, came in for repairs but the suspension had gone and was pretty much undriveable :'(

Great fun though, I hope we can get to it again real soon :)

Madd I think the rFactor lobby thing was down tonight. You needed to select a host directly with the blue plus and enter games.avonrise.co.uk as the server name and it should have shown you the server.

Well that wasn't fun. I finished 5th but only because everyone but the 4 in front dropped out. These cars sound so good but I really don't get on with the driving model. I took an ASWRC thing for a quick spin round the same track and the car felt so much more alive and responsive. So much more fun but we've tried that :( Good luck with the '79 stuff I won't be there.

Although I did push a bit to hard at the end and crashed into the pit, while they were repairing my engine went up in smoke  :o

Same thing happened to me in the second race - bent the front suspension, crabbed it back round to the pits, only to watch as the temperatures soared and eventually my lovely Renault engine went up in flames. I should've put myself to the back in the second event, as it was I was getting a bit bored out front after Paul968's challenge ended in a spin. When I looked at my best lap it was a 24 - on softs! - so I started pushing for a 23 and the inevitable happened.

The turbo cars are very, very hard to get off the line but once going they're massively quick. In another car's slipstream I was flying by like they were standing still - Dan was a bit unlucky that I caught him with 2 laps to go because I lined him up for a pass in the tow on the last lap when I knew he wouldn't be able to come back at me. :D

Really, really like these cars, although I suspect we're not getting even close to the laptimes which are possible. For me at least they have much more feel than the Armaroli cars, and feel very natural. I suspect the Renault is good in that repsect because it's quite heavy so it telegraphs what the car's mass is doing very clearly.

Really enjoyed that.  Quallified 5th in the first race, only to drop to 11th after spinning it.  Got it together after that, and as people fell foul of everything, I came through the field finishing 3rd.  Pretty uneventful though.

Second race was good, behind 2 of my teammates at the start (which I completely missed) - spun a few times, but had a good battle with Ce in the middle part of the race.  Ended up 2nd behind Paul W .... if only we could have more Legends 1-2's!!!!

Didn't think I would race this initially, as the cars were a handful to start with, but after a number of laps I was much more comfortable, and really enjoyed the nights racing.

Cheers all, look forward to the next event.

Couldn't agree more- they feel alive and are a real thrill to drive with the sound and shaking cockpits. It's probably my age but I just remember getting hooked on F1 around the time these cars were shaking their thing and this mod brings it all back (even given the slightly lack-lustre graphics). There is a nice variety of cars too what with the turbo/injection engines and some of the crazy aero ideas of the time... got to love the Renault rear wing that screams "1970's" 8)

I got beached in the first race and the engine overheated after about 30 seconds of trying to move- got to open those rad vents or just be extremely careful not to compromise yourself because it probably won't end well if you do! Second race and I faired better with a good finish for me and Adam in the sim we were made for ;)

Thanks to everyone, expected carnage but everyone drove like real gents  :angel-wings:

Yes, really enjoyed that, although the Alfa was a bit too much of a handul in the race when trying to match the Renault. 2nd race I had a comedy spin into the pits and did a drive through (at less that 199, honest!). I was leading on lap 5 when my engine lunched itself, a result of forgetting to open the rad after qual - doh!

Sorry to Ruskus in race 1 - you braked earlier than expected at club, I slipped down inside to avoid but then slid a touch wide off the curb and there was contact.

Replay is here (http://ukrf.simracing.org.uk/). I've sort of imported the results but the car mappings are all made up nonsense as I realised that the upgrade system it uses to cope with the myriad combinations is invisible to my importer. :-\

I had real problems with the textures being wild and wacky though. In the first race I couldn't see my front wheels and in the second my pit guys looked like they had been through a particularly unpleasant Star Trek transporter beam accident. :o I guess I'm glad that they got the physics to feel so good rather than spending lots of time on the models, but the latter do need some work...

So much for rFactor's perfect multiplayer then.

So that was 12 people plus 4 or 5 missing (including myself)? Not bad, but not sure it's enough. Gonna need some serious uptake from advertising elsewhere.

Bear in mind that it was a Friday night. I'm not convinced either but if we could find a suitable race night and did a bit of promotion who knows. It's certainly made me keen to join the Race2Play series which is going to be running on Thursday nights just before the UKGTL race (which would become light post-F1 relief :D).

The mod still needs some work though - parts are really quite unpolished. :-\

Great race..... took it very easy of the start and managed to crawl past Ruskus and Paul as they spun there wheels, Martin was ahead and i could just about stay with him then he disco'd .     Was all on my own for a while then all of a sudden i could see this yellow thing in my mirrors!    tried to keep it smooth and not look in my mirrors too much, i could brake a bit later but the Renault had a bit more top end which made it quite even but hit the grass coming out of Abbey and had too jump off the throttle and Dave came flying past...just watched the replay and you had a great run out of Club..  Good job Dave.

Would defantly be up for a little championship in these cars,   think ill take the Lotus next time .
Cheers

The weirdly mapped skins were confusing me no end until I looked it up on RSC- you need to choose your car, then switch over the "upgrades" and choose the version (if available) and then switch to the "skins" tab and flick through them until you get one that maps correctly. Bit of a faff but once you get the hang of it it makes sense.

I'd also recommend the FW07 Picnic, before you give up entirely- perhaps the most sure footed car in the mod.

Oh, and I got the weird low speed steering thing too Paul when parking on the line for the start. At very low speed the steering suddenly went very slack indeed.

Unless somebody else is volunteering to organise it, I'd like to wait until after UKGTR Season 4 is finished. We can then hold some Sunday night races which are usually well attended, and look at how to fit a championship, if there is sufficient demand, in amongst the GTR2 events.
