Title: UKGPL Season 38 (Spring 2021) - Assen and Suzuka - Aug 1
Post by: Phil Thornton on July 27, 2021, 08:35:55 PM +0100
Season Break 38/39 - Fun + Test – 1968 F1 Early and 1969x F1 - Assen and Suzuka

This is a double-header to see if the new Track Gap Freeze Fix has solved the problems we used to have with several tracks. For the first race we will be using the 68 Early cars at Assen in Holland. This is a fast flowing track where a good choice of wing settings will make a difference. The second track, Suzuka is a regular venue on the current F1 calendar. Tonight we will be using the version with the infamous chicane. Hopefully we won't have a repeat of the Senna/Prost incident.

This car/track combi had several problems that got solved by the new
Track Gap Freeze Fix Patch v.09 (http://srmz.net/index.php?s=1d55bf5d3d0f891eb7da6c3f35d87a26&showtopic=14247)
Put the .xml in the ../GPLSecrets/GEM+/Options/ folder and activate it in GEM for all mods!

There is a graphics update available for this track here (http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=4189). Scroll down until you find a link to the file suzu00_Dbupdt.rar. Unzip this archive and copy the contents into the track directory (suzu00).

Handicapping:
There will be no handicapping.  Drivers have a free choice of chassis. Unlimited number of Shift-Rs are allowed with no need to make a Stop and Go.

This is a fun race so incidents will not be moderated but please drive carefully and with consideration for others.

Please, excepting emergencies, no chat until Session Completed in qualification. No chat in the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Trying to learn two new tracks for this evening may be a little daunting but the intention is to test the tracks, it isn't about a championship battle. So just enjoy the races, it doesn't matter if you are not at your best. There isn't a championship at stake, have fun!

Yes but you should be able to join with the 69x cars. There is a drop down list on iGOR that allows you to select the 69x cars.

It is under "Mod Choice".  We did the same at Lime Rock, see Cookie's post (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=26321.msg511431#msg511431)

You're right Axel, it didn't work. I got the "you are not licensed to enter this race" error when I tried to connect with the 69x cars.

Apologies to Tris for the confusion.

So I've restarted UKGPL05 with 69x at Suzuka and UKGPL04 with 68E at Assen. However, I want to use UKGPL5 for both races on Sunday so that Leo can test his connection to UKGPL5.

Thanks for the suport Phil.

I've just tryed both servers, same time as the schedule races. Both connected fast in the first atempt and I could post some very uncompetetive times  :wheelchair:

Lets hope it works fine come race day.

Many troublefree laps Online at Suzuka.  It's a great car and track combination, but open to some creative chicanery, unless track and rules are adhered to. :hammer::devil:

To drive with the AI you have to use the 60fpsaiv1 patch. See this thread (http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=12365).

You're probably missing the driver69.ini file. Copy one from another track but makes sure it contains 19 drivers.

Hi, fellas.  A couple of hours yet before our test and I'm just nicely off both servers featuring the two mods to be used.  Loaded up just fine so it looks like I'm good to go.  :)

Thank you for all the suggestion but AI limp back to pits don't appear on my GEM.
Anyway if i disable the 60fps v1 the AI appear on the track.

I was only making the numbers up in the name of research,  but managed to stay on server (defo not on-track!) and even running at the back, those were both bonkers events!

Took me a couple laps to realise where the track had gone at Suzuka!  The chicane experience is defininitely different to Real Racing3 :)   (but that is a mere game.)

Anyway, thanks all.

Lots of fun. I made a hash of L1 at Assen. I blew the V12 in the Cooper and then kept falling off the track. Not enough grip without wings to be competitive but lots of fun.

Suzuka is awesome and T1/2 is super. The chicane needs refining and I was cross to slide off the track and let Phil through. Never mind. These are two excellent tracks to consider for the next season. It's brilliant that we no longer suffer discos.

I think that counts as 2 more successful tests for the no-freeze patch. I think we can safely say the patch works. Thanks again to Lee Bowden, Ginetto and John Ollis for solving one of the few problems that really caused a lot of problems for on-line leagues.

We've got a few more opportunities for fun races before Season 39 starts on Friday 4th September. If anyone has any requests for a fun race, please post here.

I really don't mind where we race but I must admit that enjoy the close racing of the F2s. Or, how about some Thundercar action to spice things up a bit as well before the serious action starts again in September?

Both races went off A-OK from this end.  Good fun trying to hold off the aero cars.

What kind of resolution you have on the screen? My is 1600X900.My GEM is the 2.7.0

Applyng the 60fpsaiv1 the AI appear but i have not understood if i must rename the gpl_ai_60fps in gpl_ai.ini.
With the 60fpsaiv1 ticked   no qualifying time is recorded for the AI.
Is not a big problem because ,usually,i don't race against AI but i'm curious to understand.
Yesterday evenig i had the usual problem to loose the steering whell in the first curve. The problem is due to a week contact of the rear socket.I must pay attention to not move the Fanatec before a race.

Nivelles was also in the tracks blacklist. It's a simple, fast and tecnical layout that I think can be a nice oportuniti for test and fun.

HAVE YOU LOOKED in your track folder if there is a track69.ini wich is empty? (or 1 line)

I doubt you have a GEM 2.7.0  ;D

My laptop has this resolution and I can open GEM fullsize:

OK I'll add it to the provisional list. It should be popular with the GPL Brazil drivers :)
