Track: 70 Nurburgring Gesamtstrecke (version 0.85b)

Allowed Classes: Division 2 and Division 3

• Up to 1600 cc (Division 2)
• Over 1600 cc (Division 3)
• Note that you can drive with Division 1 or Division ½ car as well, but you will be then competing on same points as guys in Division 2 cars

Unless there's 4 or more drivers signed (in this thread) to Division 3 six hours before the race start, event will change to Division 2 event and only one set of points will be given.

Qualifying:
- 30 minutes, starts at 19:00 BST.
- Use shortcut to the right before the bridge and another one after next left hander  to start qualifying lap without running 11 minutes just to warm up.


Race:
Length: 4 hours and 18 minutes. (1/20th of the 1970 Marathon De La Route race, which was 86 hours.)
- lapcount set to redicilously high. Race ends when 4 hours and 18 minutes is in clock and leading car crosses the start line
- Race starts at approx. 19:30  BST.
- Additional driver per car is allowed, but if both drivers are racing in championship, only one scores points. Note that due GTL being old game, both drivers must be physically using same computer. Driver changes are allowed only in pits.
 

Special scoring:
All racers compete against each other.
As this is harder than any other event in season, points per position have been made roughly 2.3 times bigger to give bigger importance to this race.

  • 21 points for 2nd position
  • 18 points for 3rd position
  • 13 points for 4th position
  • 10 points for 5th position
  • 8 points for 6th position
  • 5 points for 7th position
  • 3 points for 8th position
  • 1 points for 9th position
• Overall winner of the race scores additional 2 points.
• Each CLASS winner scores an extra point.
• And same as usual: if you start race in CLASS that you have not driven yet, you score automatically 3 additional points.
• Note that you can start maximum of 5 times in each engine class.

Notes:
Race left display:
if you are familiar with player profile editing, you can set the game announce your every XX seconds how much race time is left:
Find from .PLR file Race Timer="0" line from [ Race Conditions ] block and replace the zero with amount of seconds between announcements. If you want to get note in every 5 minutes, 5 x 60 seconds = 300 --> replace the "0" with "300".

Remember to change the value back to zero after the race as otherwise GT Legends keeps telling you race time left in every race. Game itself does not make difference between the time based and lap based races, but it is happy which one (lap count or the time) comes first fullfilled. So it is quite funny that message tells you having 3 hours left in 5 laps quick race, if you forgot it on. :D


Track notes:
Track shadows are heavy, so check out that you have shadows set as "Medium" or less. There is few small clitches like headlights turning off in Sudschleife part of the track, but nothing that effects race itself.
Track is work in progress version (0.85b) of GTR2 conversion of rFactor track. As I have not been able to contact the original authors, please do not redistribute this version. I will continue work on this and if and when the release is possible, I will release proper version.

There's possibility to run shorter in lap by driving Betonschleife to get the laptimer running without running whole 28 km lap to warm up. Check the Qualifying section to more info how to do it.

I added driver sign list to first post. Announcing joining the race is purely voluntary, but it might help some people selecting the car and division for this monstrosity. :)

Chances are I'll be in an Escort, but not sure which one yet.

I decided that I am going to start Division 2 or lower car. Not 100% Sure yet about the car though.

Likely I'll be on holiday.

I got some questions about having a break middle in the race... There's no such thing as online pause mode in the game, so if and when you need to visit the loo, I suggest planning that so that you are having pitstop and guys working your car can fix all the possible things needed. You are racing  probably around 4 and half hours (depending where the lead car is located when the time runs up), so having one longer pitstop is better idea than trying to hold on. :D

Preparing yourself forehand with liquids and some energy snack is good idea as well.

Nordschleife is a smooth drive in the Bellet but I still have to learn the Suedschleife..... :P

Although I'm pretty sure that in my current condition I'll not be able to finish the race, count me in in the Bellet.

BTW: get an online  mismatch "Gesamtstrecke.gdb" when going on track  ???

Updated the signed drivers list.
I also took the server down, deleted the track folder, re-downloaded from the link here and tried to restart the server, but Lobby could not be reached, so I will need to try to restart it later again.


So server is down until it can connect to the lobby.

EDIT:
DerDumeKlemmer is doing updates to Lobby hardware, so that's the reason for problems. Everything should be ok in the evening.

Tried it again, but still get the mismatch (tried several cars & changed my SIM_GTC.gdb file to an original one from 2008).

But I think we can live with that small issue..

Note to everyone: Even if there would be very few drivers, this race will be run. :) Of course I hope grid of around 10 cars, but if that does not happen, The race will still go on like planned.

I have backup plan about making the challenge bigger for myself, if driver count is really small. If there is very few racers, I am going to try reach the 500km landmark with the Giannini 500TV.  :) According to my calculations, it should be doable, though it won't be easy. 18 laps is needed to break the 500km barrier. However as the going on laps are counted when the 4hours and 18 minutes is reached, 17 laps needs to be conquered in 4 hours and 17 minutes, so that you get the 18th lap started before lead car crosses the finish line.  17 laps in 257 minutes, means lap time average staying below 15 minutes and 7 seconds and that includes pitstops, etc.In average speed, that means 113 kph.

But we will see which car I am in starting grid. :)

Yeah, only problem is that pre sign in is not mandatory, so we do not know exact racer count until the race starts and  for that, it is bit too late change the class.

We can take a look of the situation 15 minutes before the race starts and if there's very few racers, then make the decision going on with Division 2. or something.

After giving a thought to this, I have decided the following:
unless there's 4 or more drivers signed to Division 3 six hours before the race start, event will change to Division 2 event and only one set of points will be given. 
And same rule with smaller division cars still apply: you can join with slower division car, but you are running for the same points as the other guys in division 2.

Fortunately i will be able to make it. I decide to go for Div 2 and Ford Escort TC.

@ Lasse: if you decide to use the Giannini 500TV, please tell me. I'm prepared to join you  ;)

Also guys be careful with engine wear. With Escort TC it burns around 3-4 percent per lap.

Signed you to division 3. As there's now rule that at least 3 drivers is needed pre-signed to division 3 to make it happen, you might want to look backup plan with division 2 car.

So all the other cars are allowed except:

Sorry guys, 4.5h are then too heavy for me, especially if you drive most of the time alone. Track is great, but I would also physically probably not quite managed it. But it was fun. Thanks for the event

Things happen. I didn't slow down enough and got tapped and flew into forest. I think car would have been fine to continue race, hit wasnt that big. Right rear wheel got stuck into a ground and I didn't have reset assigned into any button.

Endurance Events
Unfortunately a no show for me as we’re on holiday at the moment. But I do have a suggestion. This type of events are quite attractive as opposed to all the short stuff we are used to. It’s a different challenge.
Because of the length of the race a friend and I had agreed to drive in stints. A good plan which didn’t materialize because of the sheer distance he has to drive to my place. He would have been back home very late at night. Not good for old blokes like us.
My simple suggestion is : could any future endurance races be scheduled on Saturday or Sunday afternoons?

Amazing race for me, no big mistakes and a win + pole position.

I drove the best race in my career and won the biggest race in my career. I am very proud to make the fastest lap of the race in the final 1 hour of the race as well.

Normally you got a warning using the Betonschleife in praccy & qualy and the lap does not count but obviously not in race.

Results are not quite accurate concerning lap one as we started at random grid and I cannot remember the correct order.

I just saw you guys did wait for me last night to join the race. Thanks very much, but as I wanted to join, GTL crashed again and so I decided to call it a night. Anyway, thanks for setting up this event. Looking forward to a rerun. Hopefully with the bugs sorted out and a few more drivers.

This was probably one of the worst ones ever what comes to my organizing. Never have had such many problems with single event. I eventually understood what was wrong (Thanks MichaW trying so hard to explain it to me.) and learned one more thing about GTL: you can go over the lap count given in track's gdb file in online race, but not with as huge number as 900 laps.

I am terribly sorry everyone about the problems in start.

After all this I was exhausted and the race ended in lap seven in my own driving line mistake, sending me to the void. Accident happened in Nords' section, which I have conquered at least worth of 1000 km, so it was unexepected. And of course you get DNF time to time. From my last DNF it has been a while so maybe this was how it was meant to be. I was rather disappointed not to survive even for first pits stop. (I think Endurances being one of my strong points in GTL.)

Kurt's fastest lap was possible because the flag rules were set to None. If they would be set as usual way, Kurt would been Disqualified.

Congrats to all finishers, I will update the Hall of Fame shortly.

As this race is only one ran in Saturday, it would be until next year when this happens again.
However, I have been thinking possibility to organize endurance championship in which there would be maybe 4-8 races (so maybe average of four to six weeks between each race) all ran in Saturday afternoons. I can't really say when it would be starting, most likely not before this season ends though.

Would there be interest for a such championship?

Yes, any afternoon is out really, evenings only for me. I do get chance to do 30mins or so practice most afternoons, but not an enduro race.

Lasse, why not include more enduro style events in your next season?

The old World Sportcar Championship had Enduros and Hill Climbs at least up to 1966.

Most likely this is the way it will happen. I will reconstruct the season calendar for next year with more enduro races.

However I will keep one extra long event in calendar and it will be run either in Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Just because no one really wants to have race that ends 2.00am in normal weekday. This year's Daytona will be sort of maximum event on weekday and even for that I will make the qualifying and start probably half an hour earlier to make sure that we who (Finland, Bulgaria, Greece)  live in EET (GMT+2) time zone will have some sort of night sleep before next morning.
