(3) General information on the ladder can be found on the series home page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/index.php?ind=lm2&group=47).
(4) The season will be run using a UKGTL carpack v1.2 (download (https://www.simracing.org.uk/index.php?pid=27) which will need to be installed prior to racing.

Oooow ! Donnington!! Excellent choice!?
Will get practicing!?

Does anyone have any tips on stopping the Escort doing a 180 under heavy braking!?
I have been playing with the set up but havn't got anything I'm really happy with!?
or is this just a characteristic of this car!? ( or the driver!!  ;D )

Looking forward to it!!

Brake while the car is travelling in a straight line.

Increase the coast differential to 100% (or close to 100%), reduce the brake pressure and move the brake balance forward. That should hopefully go some way to helping your problem.

Also don't shift down gears too soon (i.e. let the brakes do the work rather than the engine).

Also don't shift down gears too soon (i.e. let the brakes do the work rather than the engine).

That's the single most important one. You may also find that gently blipping the throttle manually (even with autoblip turned on) as you go down into the lower gears helps.

damn, dont think i can make this one  :'(  Got a leaving doo before i jump into the big bad world of self-employed-ness...gulp.

Are the escorts v 914's evenly matched? Thought the RS would win hands down.  ???

Post by: Pero_Grozni on January 29, 2007, 09:33:28 PM +0000
Not really evenly matched - I never was even close to the times I did with the Escort driving the 914. But that said I only drove the 914 a couple of times and I drive the Escort as often as possible.
From the Comet leauge I remmber the Trois Riviers race where in the test race most were in the Escorts and in the proer race most were in the 914. The qually lap difference was about 0,8 sec in favour of the Escort - I reckon that is a good benchmark on the speed difference of the cars.
The Escort is almost spot on the speed of the slow CSL (Alpina). The difference is that the Escort is far more lively, but will blow the Engine, the CSL is rock solid in that area.

I think they are pretty close, with the Escort having a slight edge. Two different cars so one is always going to have something on the other. But also one car suits one driving style and the other suits another driving style. We shall see, but I'll probably take the Porsche as I don't like the Escort particularly.

I'll be there for this one, partly 'cause I love taking the Escort round Donny, and partly to test how things are running on my system.

Just reinstalled my OS etc last night onto a new primary HDD.  It wasn't the MOBO (although it did need changing in any case), not the GPU (tried another card in there), so hopefully that'll be the end of my fps problems.

Anyway, fingers crossed.  See you all there.

Well, after a disaster in my F1 '79 R2P race earlier, I followed it up by crashing out from 5th or 6th and killing the engine. :-\

I wasn't expecting to do well since I loathe both the Escrot and the 914 and I might give the rest of this particular series a miss...

Hahaha, typical end to the Escort....in flames.

I was doing quite well, chasing Stu for a while untill he spun and I could take his 2nd place. But with 8 laps to go, it was bye bye to another Escort. Can't remember how many Escorts I've blown up already  ::) ;D . Atleast that car is good at something  :P

I was testing to see if having replaced my HDD with a spare the fps woes I've been having would go away.

Short answer ..... no.

Very tentative start to the race, losing a few positions.  Spun it a couple of times through locking a wheel (forgot to change the brake pressure), then put in some solid laps to catch up and overhaul Bill.  Lost the back end and had to wait for the leaders to pass, time to chase Bill down again.....but got a massive fps hit into T1, hit the wall hard and that well and truly knackered the car.  Busted the suspension, smoke and flames galore ..... bit of a pain, I was really enjoying throwing the Escort round, been a while since I ran some laps in GTL.

Time to swap PSU's/take the system back to 1 GB and test each stick/new processor/give up, sell a kidney and buy a new computer...... :(

The Stop and Go got me!

That 914 is harder to Tame than a TVR. I noticed right after the uphill stop to 2nd gear it started bouncing like a mofo out of it, tough to keep control  :-[

Well what can I say, not a bad nights work. Started 12th and finished 2nd. Spent the whole of qually working out how to drive the Escort again and get a decent setup. 1 big change on the brake balance with 1 minute to go and I knew I was at least a second quicker than my qually time so knew I would be able to work my way up the order quite easily, but up to 2nd? LOL. Well done Pero on another great win and thanks to Stu for letting me off the hook on the last lap by bursting into a raging fireball. :o :o :P

P.S. You were right Pero, that does appear to be might best result ever in UKGTL, beating my previous best of 3rd.  O0 O0

All you asked was "Dave, it is possible for you to remove GHOSTSPEED word, in classifications table?". I pointed you to the team management instructions, which say how you can be in different teams in different championships. ::)

I've manually massaged your records so that from the date you left Ghostspeed, you are now shown as having moved to Ghostspeed for UKGTL only.

That leaves a three way points tie in the L2B team championship! ;D

Morning all!

Another very enjoyable race although this GTL is really hard work!
I have been struggling with set ups and my lap times were awful!
Luckily my Team ( Oldie ) came to the rescue! Thanks Tom!
Loaded their set up and immediately took 2 secs off it in Qualie!
Perfect timing! no pun intended!!  :D
Made a good start but Simon was gone immediately!!
Good to witness the Gymer guys battling for position!!
Was under pressure the whole way. Some very close clean racing was had.
In the end a few places were gained mainly due to other drivers minor errors
and I ended up 6th!?

Really gets your heart going doesn't it!!
GTL definitely needs more concentration or am I just not trying hard enough in GTR2 !?  :D

Congrats to the Alien's at the front!!

M.

That was fun! PB in quali, just a few thousandths shy of pole position.

For the first few laps I was just hanging on to Pero, but a few silly mistakes saw me collect two cut-track warnings so I had to back off a bit. Ruskus caught me up, and we were looking to get into a good battle for second place when my rear wheels were more enthusiastic than my front at the chicane and I spun. Rejoined 6 seconds behind Ruskus. 10 or so laps to go, so still time to chase him down. I pushed on, and could nibble at the lead but not consistently. THen, pop - big black smoky fireball, and nothing to do but close my eyes and plow through the smoke hoping I don't hit anything metallic.

2nd place now, and with the warning from Ruskus' car I back off, shifting early to save the engine. Strangely this didn't hurt laptimes too much. Then my concentration wandered, and I ran a little wide around Craner and got a third stop-go. Bugger!

I took the S-G immediately, and rejoined behind Simon. I pushed hard for the last few laps to close up, hoping to attempt a pass. But the engine wasn't grateful for this abuse and decided enough was enough.  Pah!

A lot of fun, and managed to collect some points. Thanks all! And well done Pero - those first ten laps were very fast!

One of my favourite cars in GTL and Donny national were always going to be good for me.
I was into the mid 1:16's in practise and in qually, but qually should have been even better. I was 0,3 sec up on my pole lap about 4 times at the first split and than I managed to cock it up each time - one time I had traffic as the problem and I only missed out on my best lap by a few thousands. Anyhow - I got pole position and as in qually I tested with full race fuel (almost exact time as pole time) I knew I had the pace to make a quick escape and than controll with some gap.
And that is exactly what I did - I started as fast as possible and quickly got into the 1:16's and than a few laps on I managed to get two laps in that were better than my pole time. I was getting away slowly and after some time I noticed I had empty road in my rear view. At that point I started nursing the engine and shifting early... as the Escort tends to blow up.
The remainder of the race I was doing quite consistent times - mostly mid 1:17's and I was suprised in how much grip the tires still had at the end.
Grats to Simon for the second place and grats to Stu for the qually lap - almost snatched pole :)
