Title: UKGPL Season 39 (Autumn 2021) 1969 F1 - VIR - Oct 15 Post by: Cookie on October 11, 2021, 03:54:25 PM +0100 Season 39 - 69X – Round 4 – Virginia International Raceway 1937
finds us at Virginia in the USA. In 1955, a group of North Carolina car enthusiasts began their search for a possible racetrack location. They soon found the perfect site on the state line on land owned by the Foote Family and Virginia International Raceway (VIR) opened for business in August of 1957. The group leased the property as Sports Car Enterprises. VIR’s first official event was a SCCA race that attracted stars like Carroll Shelby, Carl Haas, Bob Holbert, Augie Pabst, Bob Grossman, Don Yenko, Dr Dick Thompson, Walt Hansgen and Bruce Jennings. Shelby, who would later go on to worldwide fame by winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1959 and creating the iconic Cobra sports cars in the early 1960s, won that first feature race at VIR in a Maserati 450S.The lconic Texan uttered a quote about the track that is remembered to this day, “one lap at VIR is like a hundred at Watkins Glen.” We use the new Version of this track! http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=14242 Please check the Season 39 pages for details (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=1531&theme=6) regarding rules and the 1969x F1 pages (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=1601&theme=6) in particular. GPLRank only has listings for the old Smogbike version. I'd appreciate a posting of your typical times, chaps.
I need to practice to make a car selection between the Eagle and the BT24. Not sure yet about the wing settings. Never drove the old version.

Some good fun for me in the little BT24. A stone in the corners without aero, it's at least a bullet on the straights. After some early grief from those starting ahead of me, I found myself in a lofty P5. I could pretty much hold my own on the lap but braking for the Horseshoe was a distinct vulnerability. Soon, I was dropping places there and a hip check from Andreas on Lap05 sent me into the weeds with a considerable loss of time. I could have used that in my chase down of Pete late in the going; came up a little short. A P10 a reasonable finish considering. So I was surprised when I saw you falling back... :-\
