Season 39 – 1955 GP - PRIVATEERS – Round 4 – Assen

The fourth race in the 1955 Grand Prix series finds us at Assen in the Netherlands. Assen has a long history of motor racing. The first event, a motorcycle race, was held in 1925 on country roads through the villages of Rolde, Borger, Schoonloo and Grolloo.  Between 1926 and 1954, the Dutch TT (Tourist Trophy) motorcycle race, was held on the Van Drenthe circuit. This was a 10.27 miles street circuit through De Haar, Barteldsbocht, Oude Tol, Hooghalen, Laaghalen and Laaghalerveen. In 1955 a new purpose built track was inaugurated which was shorter than the original but at 6.049 miles it was still a long track by modern standards. Over the years the track has been through numerous modifications which have changed its length each time. The 1967 version we are using tonight is 4.8 miles long.  Although more famous for motorcycle racing, the track has been used for car racing (BOSS GP, Champ Car, DTM and several junior classes) but never for Formula 1.

The server is up on iGOR for testing. I've been advised that there may be an issue with the 55s on this track. Please install the no-freeze patch before you test the server and let me know if you experience any screen freezes.

It is the USA F1GP at Austin this weekend and as usual we have a clash of timing. Does anyone have an objection to delaying our race by 30mins to allow people to watch the F1 race if they wish to?

The revised times would be:

Qualifying starts	=	21:15 UK time - 45 minutes
Race starts	=	~ 22:00 UK time

Anyway, I couldn't be there... :-\

Late start is not a problem for me. It's half-term holiday so I can lie-in on Monday :)

Screen freeze on every lap I tried so far , always at the same point on't cirquit  ::)

Is there any difference offline/online?
Have you got the antifreeze-fix patch enabled for 1955 mod?

Otherwise, maybe it's worth downloading the track again & reinstalling?  (rename your current assen67 track folder first, just in case you need to go back for some reason).
The EDIT 4 on the refereced track download page points to http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=9529&st=0 (http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=9529&st=0) with an updated/fixed install package & sky update.

I've got the patches Dave identified installed and I don't have any screen freeze issues. Have you got the patches installed Bernie?

No freezes here either with the patch installed.

Hi folks , Thanks for the replies . I have the no gaps patch installed if thats the one you refer to .

I get the freeze online or off . Its only with 55 mod which suggests the track D/L is OK otherwise why would it be fine with the 67 mod ?

I have that d/l but have no idea what to do with it , nowhere are there any instructions for dimbo's like me to understand so I assumed it got loaded along with the latest track instal  ::)

Those additional files are not standalone track installers.

The assen67_GINfixUPDATE.7z  is a compressed file (will need the free 7-zip utility from https://www.7-zip.org/ (https://www.7-zip.org/)) to open it.  The resulting files are then copied to your existing \tracks\assen67 folder.

Once done, the  sky.mip_CORRECTION.zip can be opened in a similar way (7-zip can also open .zip files, instead of using Windows explorer) & copy the sky.mip to the assen67 folder, overwriting the existing file.

Before copying/replacing any files, you may want to make a backup of your original assen67 folder.


If easier, someone can zip up their existing working assen67 track folder. You can then rename your current assen67 & re-create it.


But yes - sometimes there just seems to be a lot of poking around required!

as a fellow duracell powered simracer...and a computer dimbo, I think this is what you should do ( well I hope so coz it is what I have done.) Make sure that GPL is NOT running and that GEM/IGOR is also not running.

1) download the 2 zipped files from SRMZ as per the link that Phil provided.

2) unzip the GINFIXUPDATE  to somewhere that you can see the results. It should show you a new folder Assen67 GINfixupdate
2b)unzip the Skyfix correction .mip and COPY that into the new folder. It should over write the existing Sky.mip

3) COPY all of the unzipped files in the new folder

4) Navigate to your Sierra/TRACKS  directory and find the Assen67 folder.

5) Open the Assen 67 folder so that you can see all of the contents and PASTE the unzipped files onto that list, allowing to overwrite.

6) Close the Assen67 folder and restart GPL

Don't forget to tick the box in GEM for the 55mod.

Detailed Patch Instructions:

As usual, you can put the patch in the mod's physics directory, the mod physics' Options directory, or the GPLSecrets/GEM+/Options directory.  Delete the original mod .exe and check the patch in GEM+ to rebuild the mod .exe.

Freezes were caused by two separate issues.  The Track Gap Freeze Fix v.09 patch fixes both:

1.  Some tracks have gaps between the track segments.  This can cause GPL's code to freeze the sim when any player or AI chassis runs over them.
2.  The 69X mod has a faulty 23.xml file in its physics which can cause freezes in corners.

Important Note--The 66 F1 mod v1 included a small size version of the 23.xml.  This file can be identified by viewing its size as 2.94 KBs/3015 bytes.  The Track Gap Freeze Fix v.09 patch cannot patch this file and may cause further trouble so don't use the patch with the 66 F1 mod v1.  We highly recommend you download and install the 66 F1 mod v2 located here:

Now check it in GEM and start iGOR

if possible do it before the race - as Assen is a track that made this patch necessary ;)

The possibility to get a freeze is zero after you installed it

Axel , dont think its a good idea to do pre race , I have the patch already in my Assen67 folder ,I have tested on & off line , no probs .

There is a chance if I changed things it could mess up .

Delete the original mod means delete the file gplc55.exe in the main GPL folder. 

 "check the patch in GEM "  means tick the box that says 77K Track Gap Freeze Fix V.09.

The Privateers server will be started at the later time: qualifying 21:15 UK time (GMT+1), race 22:00 UK time (GMT+1)

So sorry one and all. What a doofus! I made a risky move when I really should have known better. No need for moderation... I should not have made the risky move up the inside into the last bend. With a long race I should have waited my time and been patient. I was quicker than the Mercedes so it was just a case of waiting for the right moment. Sorry once again for wrecking your evening. I'm off to hang my head in shame and not drive GPL for a few days. Punishment indeed. Let's see what the Mods decide but this is ENTIRELY MY FAULT. Stupid, stupid, stupid boy  :cursing:

I had the race in hand but the engine have abbandoned me.
Firdt time with the 55.

I did a recovery run, due to the touch, I managed to find an opening up front only, I lost a lot of time. Here with good straights for mercedes and ferrari.

    Albert pilot can't log in, was the server using ping limiter?

I had A very bad ping one hour before the race.

Threw away a podium finish when I outbraked myself into T1 fighting with Dave C . My recovery chance was wrecked by da Silva going off then reversing out onto the track in front of me . after that i tried too hard to make back the time , overcooked it and knocked a wheel off .

From my position (behind you for most of the race!) that was probably your only mistake.
You were being annoyingly consistent  ;D
I had a number of incidents,  but was then able to reduce the gap again, but unable to do anything once I got there.

In the closing stages, that Merc was reeling me in & would definitely take 2nd.  Unfortunately, once I was following I became lost/ended up at a corner in an unexpected gear & got stuck in a wall on the last lap.

Thats a bit contentious because "that Merc" reversed out onto the track to re join , if he had done a proper re join it would have taken him a good bit longer , that was with 3 to go so possibly you could have hung on ?

Then again I maybe should have T boned him !

Having said that, I was quite happy to have a decent race for a change , pity it didn't go the distance  ::)

I had the max ping set to 300mS which is the usual setting. It hasn't caused any problems in the past, Albert has connected OK for previous races. However, if it is a problem I can revise the settings. Next time the practice server is up I suggest Albert checks his connection. If he has problems again, I will change the server.

I think it comes from our server.
currently in my neighborhood, there is work to install broadband. this should probably impact the connection
