Title: UKGPL Season 39 (Autumn 2021) 1967 F2 - Donington Park - Nov 23 Post by: EvilClive on November 22, 2021, 11:44:46 AM +0000 Season 39 - – 1967 F2 - Donington National
PRO RACE Donington is one of the classic British race venues for cars and bikes. Over the years it has hosted all of the classic races from early GPs to more recent Touring cars and Superbikes. The elevation changes and mixture of fast sweeping curves and tighter sections promotes fast and furious racing with a couple of good passing opportunities.

http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=3287 Anyone who carves time off a lap by short-coursing over the curbs should be horse-whipped. Whilst I agree with you in principle Doni, there is no way of knowing if ALL drivers have installed the concrete bollards ( or the softer option available on the same link ). It was a good race, very competitive times.

Thanks to Bagrupp and Evil for some close racing. It looked as though Clive had a few scary moments putting himself on the grass which left the road clear for Bastian and I. It could of gone either way as we both slipped up a little to let the other through. I was too cautious through those invisible yet SOLID barriers at the hairpin. This track brings back memories. I spent many a wet day as a child standing on the outside of the Old Hairpin watching club racing. That hill is even steeper in real life making it a very scary braking zone. One more apology to Alain for rejoining the track and making contact with him after my failed attempt to pass Doni in T1. If not for the fun racing with Doni and Phil, this would have been a total disaster of a race for me.

Stable and slides through cornes just the way you want. Just not enough top end, but good enough for first among the earth lings :alien:

But I really enjoyed driving the track. I've never driven there before (in GPL) but it suits the F2 excellently. The whole British F2 season actually is filled with great track/mod combinations, so absolute props to the admins for this series.

I'm glad that people are enjoying this series, after all I hope that is the main reason that we all enjoy GPL?? These cars do produce great close racing, unless your name is Yannick or Tristan. If the Moderation Committee decide to run F2's next season, maybe will run another National series in a different country ..........watch this space ;) @Pete My early trips onto the grass were simply lack of concentration on my part as I was running on my own, no excuses. However, the red mist spurred me on to catch first Phil ( who very graciously explored the gravel trap and allowed me a clear pass) and then to chase down Pete and Bastian. Again my own fault for getting too close to Pete's exhaust pipes and when I discovered that I was carrying 5-10 kph more through The Old Hairpin I had to abort to the grass again. A little more patience might have made that an interesting 3 way battle. Additionally I only got home at 10 P.M. my time which was already 15 minutes into the qualifying session, quickly installed the track and did a few laps offline to get a feeling for the track, change the camber appropriately and tweak the gears to suit the track. With about 10-15 minutes left, I finally joined the server and tried everything I could, but couldn't get below 1:10.
Unfortunately Tristan did not race, that way I was gifted P2 from the start. Had a solid getaway, but quickly felt that Yannick was faster and knew that I had to find more pace to hold on to the slipstream. But some laps into the race I lost the rear due to a silly mistake; thankfully I had been able to build a gap to Leo in P3. Got my rhythm back and drove a solid and quite quick race, still only good for half a minute distance to Yannick. :D Well done mate, that was a great display of your raw pace, and well done Leo for completing the podium! Also happy to see everyone (of the starters) except Alain finishing, great display of consistency. However my apologies to Phil again who was in a really close battle with Tom, going into the last lap I had a better run out of the last corner and decided to go for the overtake which I now regret. Surely this could have gone down to the wire into the last corner between you two... Guess you learn something new every day. :) |
