Title: UKGTL Season 22 1957 European Road Racing Cup - Le Mans - Oct 5
Post by: Wiltshire Tony on December 13, 2021, 11:33:32 AM +0000

Grid/server capacity: 22

Car/Track download pack available by pm to WT

Track: Le Mans (1960's)

Car restrictions: Four drives maximum per make. Check your car allowance here (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1eXegJX8YNHmyBEHNtd4Ne6h-CyioYXrXZoDKMxd7K5E/edit?usp=sharing)

Practice: ~19:20 (60 mins)
Qualifying: 20:20 (20 mins) Drivers must not leave qualifying to change car make.
Race 1: 20:40 (12 laps)

Time of Day Setting: 14:00
Start: STANDING
Tyre wear: Normal
Fuel consumption: Normal
Pit stops required: No

Server: simracing.org.uk Wednesday
Password: see above (#post_event_password)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: This race is started by a flagman who doesn't have a flag! Strongly suggest that Auto-countdown is enabled. Cuts will be off for this race.

I have a problem with the XDhud!
Already, during the race of Monday, after about ten laps I lost the information of the gap with the competitors and the consumption (so I went too far and ran out of gas!)
and yesterday, after 2 laps, I lost this time just the gaps with the competitors!
I only have this since this week !
As if by coincidence, the only change is the last Windows update... :-\ ???

an idea  ???

Christian, a windows update has driven many of us to near madness. Strangely enough a remedy has often been, remove XD and reinstall. Worth a try.
You were steadily gaining on me in the last part of the race but obviously you weren’t aware. Luck and a bit of unnecessary reckless driving of the two hotheads at the front, granted me a hardly deserved second position.

Cheers, Dan

An occasional problem I get with XD is it sometimes stops reporting the number of laps which can be done with the remaining fuel onboard.

It could have been a nice fight between us if on the 2nd lap, I hadn't hit something invisible just at the entrance of the straight line    ???(I had the impression that someone had hit me from the back, but nobody!!)
At the end it was not too bad and the missing info was less annoying than not knowing how much fuel was left as it happened on Monday ! :-\

I will reinstall the XD

Maybe my disco was Win update related?

I noticed as we left the grid that I had no virtual mirror, but it had been there all through practice and qualifying?? I was hoping to get on to the Mulsanne straight before I groped around for a key to re-instate it. I suppose it makes a change from losing FF

Grats to the podium guys and all finishers and hard luck Daz, with your pace it should have been a more profitable race?

At the moment my events are quite stereotypical: last or one of the last places in qualification and an early out in the race.  :(
I'm quite sure that I would need a longer break from work, real life etc., but ...  :P

Love these early versions of LeMans  :)

What happened to Daz in the last lap?

An occasional problem I get with XD is it sometimes stops reporting the number of laps which can be done with the remaining fuel onboard.

I have this as well.

Race produced an unexpected and undeserved win, that almost didn't happened, when I got close to throwing all away on the penultimate lap!

Qual was a bit of a mixed bag. Annoyed over being forced to give Clive a tow, I braked on the following lap, letting him & Dan past.  He had seemed to gain a lot on me when braking for Mulsanne Corner, so I was caught out completely by his braking much sooner or harder than expected.  Choice between the landscape or taking him out. I'm sure he appreciated I picked the former  :D

Didn't have time to practice the start. Knew 4000 rpm was too much, so tried 3000 - too low and I bogged down, losing a place to Dan.  Slipstreaming allowed me to reclaim it on Mulsanne on L1.

Gradually stretched the gap to Dan, and untouchable Daz was moving away up front, so quickly became a lonely affair.  Went without a hitch until the penultimate lap. In the sharp righthander at Arnage, I drifted too far left, getting stuck on a sand bank.  Car wouldn't move and my 20 secs gap to Dan withered away. Finally found that steering left, away from the track, provided some traction, and I could finally rejoin just as Dan showed up. It was all I could do to keep him behind me. On the final lap, on Mulsanne, he remained glued to my bumper, but didn't try to overtake . maybe his car wouldn't go any faster?

Mine on the other hand did - on previous laps, I had a flickering gearshift indicator in 4th on Mulsanne. Now it was lit solid, as if Dan was pushing me along, although there was no contact. Maybe the air in front of his car was pushing me, if that's even modelled  - anyone else experienced something like this in GTL?  Or maybe it was just the Merc getting scared of the roaring Aston... :D

We both got a bit squirrely leaving Mulsanne Corner, Dan moreso than me, to my good fortune, as it gave me a small gap, which held to the finish.

Hard luck Daz & Clive; results would and should have been different without your misfortunes.  Grats to Dan & Chris for the podiums

Yep, that all went really well right up to where it went very wrong.

Had planned on the Ferrari here all season, felt like the right badge to be sporting at Le Mans. Struggled a bit at first in practise, then remembered I had a setup from Reims that worked OK, and that sorted me out.

Quali was good, found good pace. Then a good jump off the line, and I was off and running. Set some quick laps in the middle, but was essentially going at a pace that gave no chance of an issue, or so I thought.

Final lap, halfway down the Mulsanne, 34 seconds or so in the lead, black screen ensued.....First time this pc has ever missed a beat, I don't think it was anything I did, but I had to get it all fired back up, and could hear in the headphones that the game was still live. Got GTL back to full screen, and was some distance off the track. There had been some loud banging noises, so I knew I would be in trouble, but even getting back on track was not easy, so knew the car was majorly broken. Rejoined shortly after Erling and Dan had blasted past, then one by one a few more went past, leaving only Tony that did not go through as I crawled along. It felt like I was missing at least one wheel, and 4th gear was as high as I could go and stay straight. Tony did catch and pass before the end of the lap without any issues, leaving me stone dead last after having lead the whole race. Bit disappointed really, but what can you do, no one died so all good!

The reason for the disappointment as much as anything else was that this was my first race proper in my recently constructed sim rig. So instead of celebrating with the champagne, I went for a pint of ale to drown my sorrows  ;D. I'll post some pics at some point.

Grats to Erling and Dan, looked close on that last couple of laps!

Where can we see the replay ?
(I have only 190 seconds of recording!)

Do you know what you have to modify to keep the control of your car at the end of the race ?

Thanks ;)

https://replays.simracing.org.uk/ukgtl/20221005%2060_Lemans%20L22ERRC.zip

You'll find it under replays in the menu bar just down from the top of the page Christian.

To keep control is a setting in the plr file, I think.

Like Daz says, download the replay file and extract the .Vcr file to your GTL Replays folder.

Your .plr file is in the UserData/Your Name folder and is called Yourname.plr. You can edit it with Notepad or similar.

Use these settings

The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car

As stated in the first post  ::)
