Post by: Phil Thornton on December 31, 2021, 07:43:17 PM +0000
Season 40 1967F1 PRIVATEERS – Round 1  - Surfer’s Paradise

Round 1 finds us in The Surfers Paradise Street Circuit
This is a temporary street circuit on the Surfers Paradise, in Queensland, Australia. The 2.98-kilometre (1.85 mi) beach-side track has several fast sections and two chicanes, having been shortened from an original 4.47-kilometre (2.78 mi) length in 2010. It is the third of three motor racing circuits that have existed in the Gold Coast region, after the Southport Street Circuit (1954) and Surfers Paradise International Raceway (1966–1987).
From 1991 to 2008, the circuit hosted an American Championship car racing event, the Gold Coast Indy 300. The circuit has also hosted touring car races since 1994, with the Supercars Championship currently contesting the annual Gold Coast 600 at the circuit.[1]

Hi Pete,

Wishing you and all my other fellow GPL buddies a good race tonight.

PC is built, tested and raring to go.. same as me.. LOL.

But sadly just for tonight it's on the workbench and not yet connected  to the rig. Now it's on Win 10 it's running brilliant but I know I will have a few issues sorting the wheel and pedals. So I won't be racing tonight. But it should be the only race I plan to miss this season.

I sincerely hope you have to chase me from time to time this season mate, make a change from watching your backside disappear into the distance.

Here's to season 40 chaps.... tally-ho !!!!!

Ricardo,
I don't know if it was related but my internet disconnected at the end of qualifying. I didn't get to start.

Not sure how the rules work but presume it is OK to count the chassis (Cooper) which I qualified in as having been used.

About my race, I was 4th chasing Albert Hallu when my engine exploded on 37-38° lap.
During all the race, there was a hard fight between Pepe, Dulima, Albert and me.
Not easy to overtake here.

I was pleased to get 5th after a lonely race and several helpful retirements , glad to get the rice burner home as I have never done well anywhere before in the Jap car .

Grats to the podium boys and all finishers , tough luck on the rest .

I qualified fifth in the Cooper but a great start off the line put me in third behind Pete and Eric, who began walking away from me at more than one second per lap. For the next 25 laps I managed a slow but steady pace that kept Eduardo, David, Albert, and Bernie (in various orders) behind me --- very closely behind me --- until I finally made a few mistakes. They all overtook me, stuffing me down to where I belonged all along. But compared to the atomic disaster that last season was, a sixth overall looks like the brass ring these days.

On to Zeltweg, a gently flowing track that on a good day feels like a ping pong ball floating down the river. On a bad day it feels like something else.

What a fantastic description.  ;D
