Title: UKGPL Season 40 (Spring 2022) 1967 F1 (Works) - Zeltweg - Jan 23
Post by: Rainier on January 17, 2022, 09:33:43 AM +0000
Season 40 1967F1 WORKS – Round 2  - ZELTWEG

Round two in the 1967 F1 series finds us at Zeltweg Austria. Zeltweg - the original Österreichring. Built in 1969 to replace the bland and bumpy Zeltweg Airfield circuit, the track was known for being very fast, as every corner was a fast sweeper and taken in no lower than 3rd gear in a 5-speed gearbox and 4th in a 6-speed gearbox.  There are also noticeable changes in elevation during the course of a lap which means the downhill sections are even faster. Like most fast circuits it was a hard circuit on engines and even harder on tyres simply because the speeds were so consistently high.

Congratulations to the first 3 who came very close!!!!! Very strong rhythm!

    2 consecutive Bot wins!!!

Remembering Greg Taber's bad luck, he fell when he finished the qualy ..... a pity.
A positive point is to see the race with a full server, very good!

My race with Honda was fun, I spent the whole race trying to keep up with Fulvio and when I tried to get closer I made a mistake that made me go back to the 200m distance useless! .....it was so much fun Fulvio!!!!

Nice race Johnny, you kept me on my toes all the race, but you are a trusty and very experienced driver that doesn't make silly moves so it was fun.
At start there were a couple of brave pass while I had to back off behind Jungle, but they didn't last long ahead.
Later Bob crashed at Bosh and luckily, very luckily some of us missed his car out of control for a hair.  :o
Grats podium and Brm guy.

My car strategy is working till now. Faster car, pole position, Enrique did no mistakes and kept me concentrated all race long. It was a mix of hitting the target race lap and saving engine and tires. With 5 laps left I could ease off and collect a bunch more points to the tally, but competing with the aliens I will need a bit of luck to hit the top step of the podium.  :alien:

Yesterday was rather disappointing, even when I got a fifth place in a BRM. In Quali I aimed for about a low 1:44, but inside the 35 minutes I was driving, I bottled numerous laps. Ended up about a seconf off my target time.

Start went well as the quickly dropping flag caught some drivers out and I went up to 4th. Then I was close to Enrique and got a tow on him a few times, but never enough to pass. Made mistakes every now and then, and the three ahead pulled away more and more. I could keep Killer behind, but later in the race I spun first, then Killer spun, then I spun again which ultimately gave him the position, and then had had one final spin which put safe distance between him and me.

So 5th it was, still a decent result. Thanks for racing everyone (loved to see a full field) and thanks for organizing the 40th season!

Congrats Tristan, Leo, and Enrique!

The *&$#@(! internet cut off right before the race started. I felt better about my setup this time. I might have done well. I might have done poorly. It´s a shame I didn´t get to see.

Bravo to our podium finishers!  Well done, lads.

Goodness me!  It was standing room only on the server with a full entry.  Nice going, gys.

A pretty reasonable run for me.  I tried the Brabham and Honda in pre-race trials but found those cars lacking.  So back to Old Faithful.  It ran very well.

Not much to talk about in the race.  My blood pressure went a little high in T1 off the start when Evil Clive went for a wild spin directly in front of me but there was no collision.  Lucky boy.  From there on in, it was just click off the laps with hopes of no significant errors.  Job done!  :)

Pretty much the same for me. Watching the BRM driving backwards in front of me was a bit unnerving but I stayed cool and got through. Thankfully nobody panicked and a major pileup was avoided. After that I just tried to drive a steady race. I was very impressed with the overall quality of the driving. There was a long queue of cars ahead of me each lapping very consistently and gradually stretching out. Super consistent driving. However it did make the race a little uneventful. The only racing pass was when I got overtaken by Bastian on the brakes for the Dr. Tiroch Kurve. Nice pass but I was handed the place back when a couple of laps later he went wide at Hella Kurve.

I was mighty impressed by Leo and Lasse. Not been with us very long but already pushing the aliens to the limit.

Yeah a dismal end to the race for me, sorry to scare you Fulvio, glad you managed to avoid my wreck.

I recall having a good race here in the Cooper a few seasons back and a decent set-up so had reasonable hopes, but I think the field is much stronger now.  I managed a pb in practice and hoped to dip into the 44s but wasn't quite able to do so in qualifying, putting me 8th on the grid!  I made a steady start and a ferrari bolted past into T1 which together with another ferrari, I then followed for the early laps until both of them had moments and went off leaving me a long way back from Lasse doing an amazing job in his BRM.  When coming-up to lap Roberto I somehow cut the exit on the inside of the second corner trying to line-up a pass and had a slow half spin which allowed Fulvio to catch right-up.  A lap or two later I binned it at Bosch having gone in a bit too hot and trying to kill the understeer.  Gutted!  Having missed the first race due a dead router I'm yet to get off the mark.

Cheers and see you at Riverside,

Bob
