It is being arranged (hence the word 'placeholder'). I'm sure Dave will put full details here when it is all ready.

I get it this a championship race. So no fun/test race before championship starts? No trying out cars with the new ballast pack? No chance to compare them?  ???

No, its a test race for the skinpack TT.

Ok, sorry, was a bit impulsive here.  :-[  Reacting before investigation.  >:(   And I tell my juniors not to do that...  ::)

Nice to have a test race before the season starts.  :)

I know it says Season 5 in the title but that's because it's the official pre-Season 5 test. Hence the words "test race" in the text. ;) :P

Brilliant! Missed this race in S4 as I wasn't in UKGTR then, plus I like the track :)
Is it a 40 or 80 min race? hoping for 40 as I'm coughing and spluttering everywhere atm :P

How about 2x20 minute sprint races, so we can try out a different car in each race? ie a GT in one, NGT the other or even just a different GT car in each, whatever.
We havent had a chance to give the new car weightings a shake down to see how they feel and how they affect our setups and the first championship race is on tuesday.  :(

ps is the first champ race going to be at Anderstorp? Need to know as spare time is something of a rarity for me these days and therefore want to practise at the right track when i do get a chance !

How will the rule changes be interpreted for this race? Clearly the track has not been modified, so there is considerable scope for driving outside the track limits, but does this mean that the new rules will not be enforced?

Valencia isn't bad cutting wise. Most of the times there is gravel near the corners. So going too wide will slow you down and same for cutting too much. But like Dave said, it's a fun race, and to be honoust, there has been way too much cutting-talk going on lately. Don't know where that came from, but I'd rather talk racing :)

I think what he means Paul, is can we just drive for a change. It's a fun race to test the new skin pack and whether your wheels are aligned with the palents of Mars, Jupiter and Neptune really doesn't matter.

I'm really tired of all this cutting talk, as we don't have a big problem with cutting anywhere but Monza. Can we just get on with the business of racing as I'm slowly losing the will to drive.

I agree. Monza was standing out, wide talking about the cutting makes it look bigger than it really is. I'm looking forward to see if MC12 is up to it now.  :)

Wow, now this is a a tought track, can I trade my M3 GTR for a hummer, as I spend more time in the gravel.
Or maybe a go-kart so that i can make those tight corners  :o

Im glad its a fun race, as I do not have a clue how to setup my car. But I will be there with a permenant blue flag waving behind me  :P

I could not get to grips with that track at all. Finding it hard to get car to turn into slow bends and gear ratio's all wrong. I was finding porkers and the m3's leaving me out the bends and needing a good straight to catch them,

Still trying to get to grips with my G25 too, Making way too many stupid mistakes at the moment. Day off work tomorrow is dedicated to practice.

On another note I found my PC to be very jerky at times tonight, especially in the first race in all sessions.
Second race better but anytime somebody left the event I got a second or two of complete freeze????

I also got a stop and go in the first race and I'm positive I never. I definitely saw green before dropping the clutch

Well that all seemed to work well for me except...Zacari's Morgan in the second race looked like this to me:
Was it just me or did it look like that to others too?

Was quite good fun to get on the track again and try some new cars. Saleen not massively suited to Valencia, but it wasn't bad and it felt good round the fast corners like T1. A tempting choice for the season. Mosler in the second race although slightly slower than the RSR I enjoyed driving quite a lot, like I did in Season 3. Basically using my GTR1 Mosler setup and some tweaks it felt like being at home again. Had a good fun exchange with TT, neither of us seemingly wanting the place and quite happy to flash each other through. I was laughing my head off that bit where we were side by side for 4 corners, we were driving SOOOOO slowly.

Race 1:

Disaster! Got rear ended when I was trying to avoid a sitting Saleen on the grid. Rear wing gone, had to pit. Lap down and spent most of the time trying not get in anyones way. Got into a few battles. Got my braking point wrong Darren, sorry mate, hope I didnt put you off.

Race 2:

Much better, decent qually. James you make that bi-turbo fly mate. Chased down Paul and Backo but to no avail. Sorry for the tap Paul, got my braking all wrong. Glad you survived. All in all, it was alot of fun

ROLL ON SEASON 5!

Both races ended up in battling back from a clout, thankfully it was a fun race so it wasn't a major issue!  That track is hard work though, that micky-mouse twisty bit is horrible!  Roll on Anders :)

all looked good to me, some great looking skins on display, makes for a colourful grid  8)

Was some exuberant driving on display, mainly in race 2. I seemed to get thumped at almost every corner, my shiny RSR looked like a 50 pence piece by race finish  ::) A couple of the new peeps didnt look too much in control of what they were driving, but guess we've all been there once. Maybe a gentle reminder that its a non-contact sport  :P

Racing was a bit rough and ready to say the least but I had a good run in the second race, battling with Backo and Colin. I could catch the beemer through T1 and in some braking zones, but then lost out on the corner exits and straights. Seems like a very evenly matched pair of cars so should add a nice variable to S5.

No worries about the tap Colin, I take a different apex there and nearly caught a few peeps out.

I saw a fair bit of "exuberant" driving in race 1 too. ::)

With all the Season 5 stuff going on I've had no time to practice in the Corvette at all. Tried my Hock setup but it was not too good so I tweaked the default one for the race but it was worse, I had no grip at all. I also tweaked my field of view but that made it harder to see where I was placing the car.

Had short battles with Jimmie, MJ and, er, somebody else, usually resolved by at least one of us going off.

Car felt pretty bad so I decided to go watch the A1GP instead of doing the second race. Doesn't bode well for Tuesday night but it's going to be a learning season for me anyway.

At least I put enough fuel in.

New cars all look good although I'm not sure I was seeing the texture's on Jimmie's correctly. Probably just too busy trying to stay on the track to look properly. :D

Sorry chaps, I think I made it a bit "rough and ready" for some. Did one spin in each race and took out Freq, the leader of R1, and teamy Mo in R2, with them ::). Hopefully wont be that unlucky when real stuff begins.

Glad to see I had someone to race in the vertigo. Nice stuff with Anthony in R1 and a blast with Mike in R2, that was the widest Nissan I have ever seen ;D. Lost count of the number of times I got punted off by others trying to find a way around you ;D. Hope you use that ugly thing for S5.

All skins worked well and looked perty to me. Please, never use that awfull track for real races.

Racing was fun, I saw a few screwed up textures on my own car sat in the pits :o Also my own replay file shows a lot of weird "crabbing" on cars near the back of the pack...strange. Also, as noted by Eccles as well - Massive FPS drops at T4+5. No idea why, but the same thing happens as I go past the pits on various other tracks.

Good racing though, with Mo (You showed up as Paul 968), TT and Eccles. Most interesting for me was the starts - I run a strange first gear on many tracks to try to limit the damage done out of corners, but it screws me up on starts. The second start was bad as I bogged down from lack of revs, but the first was an absolute peach! I'll never be able to do it again!  ::)

I tried MC12 in the first race and I'm quite satisfied with the performance. As this is a specifical track it doesn't mean it'll be good on other tracks. But it's much better than in S4.  :)  Had a good start in R1, passed Paul968 before 1st corner. That didn't help me as a little mistake let him by soon after. Kept 3rd from Shark and after Freq spinned I finished 2nd.  :)

Decided to try RSR for 2nd race as I drove it here before and I wanted to try it with new ballast. I had a setup from some time back ready. Or so I thought!  ::)   Interesting how much driving style changes over time. The car with that setup was undrivable. Had to make a few changes but there was not enough time to try it all. Fixed a bad turn-in but not gear-ratios which left me dead slow out of slow corners. So every time I closed a gap to Shark in his Mosler he pulled away out of corner.  :D  A$$ was comming around at trailbraking and if I balanced it to the front I was smoking front tyres. Was fighting with my car and it was funny to see both me and Shark driving sideways while trying to control the cars. Good fun.  8)  Mosler was surprisingly agile and fun to watch how he pulled away outta corner. Well, the driver might have contributed something, too.  ;)  ;D

In close racing like this I would clearly like to have a game to support 3 monitors - one in front and on each side. Add TrackIR and we're good to go.  :)

Great skins guys. My hat off, artists!  :notworthy:

TT

James and TT both made mistakes in the first half which let me past, leaving me to chase Freq, who was a solid 3-4 secs up the road by then. Luckily I had a secret weapon in my teamie Ginsters, who timed his take-out on Freq to perfection  ;) and left me with a clear run to the flag. Hard luck for Freq who had it in the bag really and good racing with TT and James in the first half. I didn't stay for race 2 as supper was calling, so hope you all had a another good one.

Great to see the new skins, and really happy with the Kerbie Saleen (I know its simple Dave, but lots of people have complimented it already). Many thanks to Mo for all the hard work. I tried to drive largely to the new cutting rules (except  into T1 when I used the pit exit - not sure if this will be allowed?) but a lot were still using the old ones. It will be interesting to see how this works out in the league races.

Will the replays be available tonight btw?

I have to say I'm a bit concerned by the reports of messed up textures. Could those people who suffered try a full field of 56 AI cars at Spa from the "UKGTR Skins" sub-class and see if anything is messed up? And if it is try without ultra resolution textures?

Eh? Tis only me that reported one car. Probably just a game glitch as no one else saw it, just me.

If its any use I didnt see any problems at all. All the new skins looked great, especially Mo's KC RSR :thumbup1:

Are we getting results and replays? The replays that GTR2 generates for me always have those cars that don't go around the track correctly. I think the server replays cure that.

What about FreQ?
Racing was fun, I saw a few screwed up textures on my own car sat in the pits :o Also my own replay file shows a lot of weird "crabbing" on cars near the back of the pack...strange.

No probs for me on the cars and they all looked nice  :)

I had a good time even though the lack of practice showed during Q and Race..
I had some good fights, and it makes my first season here looks cool.

Now I need to find some speed and everything will look good

Great race. Although there was a bit to much tapping/pushing for my taste. But I guess that's to be expected from a fun race.

Didn't have any problems with textures

Not sure, wasn't Freq one that complained of bad lag after race 2 too? Maybe the two are related?

I can get those kind of texture distorders when I have ATI-overdrive on and my card goes above 80 degrees. Turning overdrive off fixes that for me 9 out of 10 times.

I had very bad lag in first race, throughout all sessions. Actually left and rebooted pc but made no difference
Come the second race it was better but did stall when somebody left the session

I think its a trait of online racing. I find that offline my game runs smoother. I have had to reduce my AA and mipmap details etc a little to maintain a decent fps, around 60-70. Though its no problem.

Race 2 Replay (http://ukgtr.simracing.org.uk/Valencia%20Long%20-%20S5%20Test%20Race%202%20070325.zip)

I'm afraid the results will have to wait as I need to setup all the references to the new cars for the import to work, I am meant to be working  ;) Will sort this during this evening.

Are you using GTR2 PD Monitor or anything like that? I find when using GTR2 PD Monitor on anything other than 500ms+ I get lag and stutter in game only whilst racing online. It's usually a background task that causes the lag.

Ginsters I enjoyed our race in R1. Your a good clean racer.
Got taken out in R2 by a recovering car in the last turn  :P

Download it then save the .vcr file into your 'replaydata' folder. Then open GT2 and go to replays. It will be listed as ValenciaLong following by a date and time stamp. Click on her and away you go!

2 wins   :-[

Colin is right.  I had serious problems just before the first race. My PC crashed and corrupted my GTR2 directories.  Luckily I managed to recover them (so I thought) with chkdsk.  However, each race started counting down from 24 hours and I didn't see the the chequered flag until I did the extra lap.

Sorry for screwing up the results.  I aim to do a complete reinstall before the next race.

Have we tried 28 since patch 1.1?

Nothing running in the background at all. Rebooted PC and even shut down my virus software during first practice as it was so bad.

Strange why it improved considerably in second race, but froze anytime someone left the event.

On a separate note, I was baffled why I was given a stop and go penalty for jumping the start. I was positive I saw the green light before going. I did make a really good start and had to lift off from running into the back of I think Truetom in the MC12, but I did not launch early.

However watch my car on grid in replay. I entered the grid with plenty of time to go. My car actually is ever so slowly moving forward and it's not me. It crawls forward from the moment I join grid and and by the time the light goes green I'm in front of the line and I guess is why I was adjudged to lump the start.

Never had any issues with car moving at start and they even stay still at spa on the hill, any reasons this has happened?
Don't think it's anything I have done, so can someone enlighten me as don't wish to get caught out again

Mine was creeping too unless I kept the brakes on - I think it's when you put it in gear and take it out again it takes off the 'automatic brake'. Or something. I didn't get a stop and go for the creeping though.

As Shark says, we never had more than 25, so that can't be it.

I haven't done the tyre link ups yet.

New cars all look good although I'm not sure I was seeing the texture's on Jimmie's correctly. Probably just too busy trying to stay on the track to look properly. :D

I didn't have any problems with the skins, I'm running high-res textures though, maybe textures went weird at people with not enough video memory but with the option of high-res textures on?

First fun race was quite fun, starting at the back, dodging all mess at start, didn't have a very fast pace due no practise and I hate the long version of Valencia, that stupid short corners bit feels like it belongs to a kart circuit!

Tested this yesterday - You're right Dave.
On the grid your brake is on by defualt - as soon as you change into a gear, it comes off and even if you switch back to neutral it stays off.

Don't change gears on the grid! :P

Nice chunk of Vram there Shark 8)

Anyway mentioned earlier in thread I think, but I sometimes get similar distorted textures when ATI overdrive is enabled. It doesn't happen very often but its not happened at all since I turned it off.

I tried a full grid (62 cars) at Spa with just skinned cars, including the Morgan TSJ that gave me those funny textures in the race, and everything look a-ok (as well as pretty smooth even with that number of AI cars)!!
