What's the best car to learn GTL with for the upcoming event?  I was thinking one of the Porkers, probably the 906?  Seems to handle better than most of the others, b/c of low weight?

The 906 is good but loses out on the straights and can be a bit of a handful under braking. At a fast track like Silverstone you may find yourself stuck behind bigger cars in the corners and then dropping back on the straights so that you can never have a go under braking.

Of those cars, the Capri and Corvette are the easiest to handle over a race distance; the latter is very quick on the straights but tends to use its tyres rapidly.

Personally I'll be in the Capri.

I'll be in the Pantera as I love the beast. Capri should be the fastest around here according to the limited set of GTL Rank times available.

Why only the 76 Vette?  :'(  I want the mean-green-machine  ;D

The BMW is also very easy to drive as it's a understeering car, which makes it feel safer.

I find the BMW frustrating - understeer city and then suddenly the stiffness of it will catch you out and round she goes.

Reminds me of the 360s in GTR2 (which don't understeer but inspire right up to the moment they bite).

Thanks for the tips, gents.  I'll give each of the aforementioned drives a whirl.
What are most of you guys using controller-wise?  Mostly Logi wheels with sequential paddles, or does anybody have H-pattern shifters?
Personally, I'm gonna try to use my Frex H-shift for GTL stuff, with auto-clutch disabled, etc.  Makes me slower, but I'm becoming quite tired of all the sequential boxes in GTR2.

Logitech DFP with sequential paddle shifts here.

G25 H-pattern, manual clutch, heel-toe the whole charade  ;D. Also makes me slower, but it gives such a better feel to these old cars.

I have a Logi Wingman from a few years back. All it offers is sequential, and now it's throttle won't stay at 100%, when I let off the gas the brakes are applied slightly.

I need a new set :/

Have you tried to recalibrate it in the game?

LOL, well you can take some solace in the fact that the new 911 (the Carrera 4S at least) slightly applies the brakes automatically when you lift, by design.  Albeit, probably more effectively than your Logi  ;)

In all seriousness, though, try the DXTweak2 utility if you haven't already.  You can specify the "raw" axis range for any of your controller inputs, specifically to address issues like that.

Yes, I have done that a while ago. It will actually reach 100% now but it won't stay there. I've got it the best it will go thus far. I might borrow my cousin's pedal set, as he has the same wheel I do - see if that improves.

I'll have to check it out, maybe it will help a bit.

Looks like a great track, but unfortunately I won't show up. I've done some practice, but I just can't get my ride set up to finish more than one lap. Partly because I'm not familiar with the track, and partly because I've got very little experience with this type of racing :-[

Damn stupid game decided to fail to finish loading the cars, kept cycling between Will and Shark :( I decided to gice the race a go even tho I couldn't get to the garage to change the fuel but found that Will's car was invisible to me. Just a name tag running round. I decided that I had better not ruin his race so quit.

That was an extremely unenjoyable race. After about lap 5 I was spinning every other lap, then every lap until the last few laps where I was spinning twice every lap. In the end I got so pissed off with a completely undriveable car in a very lonely race that I quit with half a lap to go after my second spin in the first half of the lap.

Post by: Dave 'Gizmo' Gymer on May 10, 2007, 09:44:19 PM +0100
Started to settle into a rhythm after about half the race, was starting to put a little pressure on Jonzo and then locked the rears under braking and spun off. Proceeded to get 3 'cut' warnings for running wide and losing loads of time, served that and then spun again. Decided that being plum last with an understeering car in a field of just 9 wasn't worth the effort and quit to go watch Roman's Empire instead of taping it.

The track was much too long for these cars. I'm not that keen on the '76 cars anyway. I still enjoy the '65 cars in both classes but these just aren't doing it for me any more. :-\

Bit of an uneventful race - other than watching Bernie spin infront of or behind me.  Slowing brought my lap times down as I got more used to the Beamer, finally cracking 2:00 on my penultimate lap.  Just as well the leader came through ahead of Bernie - I double downshifter which resulted in a spin and then span again on the final corner seeing whether I could actually get the Beamer into a stable drift ... which I couldn't.

Not really much else to report, had a decent battle at the start but that was about it.  After Kyalami, this time the 76ers were a bit of a disspointment.

I thought that was a cracking race.  8)

A very close fought qually duel right to the wire, with praise going to Simon for his last seconds great time to leap frog up into the top 5, pushing me down to 6th..ya bugger  :)

Race was a corking fight from the word go, mainly with the two capris of Pribeiro and Assassino. It was great fun dicing through becketts and elsewhere with the 3 of us trading places on several occasions. At about lap 11 after i had got between the two of them again, i was running so close behind PRib that i put a tad too much wheel on the apex curve and it was enough to send me into a quick spin  :o. Then had Dave G close up on me from the resultant loss of 9 seconds and he kept a close watching brief a couple of seconds back no doubt hoping for me to make an error. But i kept it clean and sounds like he had an off, allowing me to scamper back after the two capris again.
First got by Assassino after he had an off and then started to catch simon and Prib ahead. Shark then had an off in his feisty Pant-tearer, followed by me about a few corners later whilst watching him in my mirrors.
Did about 2 more laps then Shark went off again, and of course, whilst watching him piroette? on the grass, i braked late ..and yes you guessed it, span again  ::). I'm sure he has a device fitted that makes my car go off in close proximity to him :shifty:
But i got by him for the final time when he had more trouble whilst fighting assasino and i got back upto 5th place and hard on Assass' tail.
Got by him up woodcote on the inside with 2 laps to go. He got back by me with the capri power on the straights on the last lap and on the final turn at woodcote again, i got up the inside once more and beat him to the finish line for a great 4th place  :thumbup1:

Once again, the track and car combo was fantastic. Felt so atmospheric, especially after being there at the weekend for the FIA GT race. I really wish we could attract more punters. I cant stop staring at the other cars on the warm up lap, they look so damn cool  8)
Congrats to the top 3, great clean racing all round.

If the turnouts don't improve this will be the last season of UKGTL I suspect.

That'd be a real shame - I really enjoy them.  Sadly real life is forcing me to re-jig my priorities so at present I'm looking at hanging up my GTL boots.  I'll be about every now and then for a race I'm sure though - assuming GTL's still running.

I've tried a couple of times Simon, i posted over at No-grip when i was doing some GTL races there and also a couple of times on RSC to no avail.  :'(
Weird as sometimes i flick onto the m/p lobby and there will be a big grid of racers (20+) in one race or so, so the interest must still be about.  :-\

Be gutted to lose it. :(

Pretty cool race! I just managed to get in during qualifying after getting back late. Never driven the 906 here before (or the other cars for that matter, so played it safe with the sure handling the 906 gives me) and managed to fluke a setup (Hockenheim one with no changes was dandy!) and get some good laps straight away going 3rd then 2nd. Huge gaps between us so I knew I couldnt improve really.

Tried to stay with Stu for first few laps but had to drive like a madman to even keep within sniffing distance of him - but couldnt keep it up for long so decided to lay off a bit and just not get any warnings. In fact I got 2 by the end of the race but they were justified as I started loosing concentration with nothing to chase :)

Sorry about the tap just before the start line Stu, not sure what happened but seemed you went under the rev limiter speed, as I had to come off the gas, got confused and pressed the limiter button again (switching it off!) too soon. I got it back on again b4 we crossed the line tho!

I really hope we can keep the grid sizes up - sure we had like 15 or 16 last time??

Once again i may not be the fastest but I love racing with you guys, due to it being of such a high standard and CLEAN.

I hope GTL continues, and I will do my darndest to make every race.  :)

yeah dont give up Mortens, if you need a setup for any track or car, just ask on here and i'm sure people will oblige. But its mainly practise that will get you the pace, as you get familiar with the right racing lines and car feel.

So where did the rest of the guys who have raced the last couple of weeks disapear to? Didnt see any Team oldie boys here this time?..or were they?

If anyone who races here can encourage others elsewhere to join in, then all the better.
Someone mentioned a German racing GTL league last night, perhaps a few of them could be enticed into a race with their British rivals ?
Perhaps a formal invite to compete?

Still you're way faster than me, so don't worry.

And thanks for the support, I'll try that; get more practice. It's just that when I watch you race, it seems more like it's in your blood or something. Maybe I just don't have it. But the main reason I'm racing GTL is that I'm trying to widen my horizon, as I've only raced NASCAR on-line before this, and I haven't got the hang or road cars yet. Think I'm okay at rally, but haven't got any good games for that at the moment.

Are they all tested?  Long beach in the 76's sounds ace  8)

Well not a good race for me!!!  ???

I hadnt had a great deal of practice because I have been trying to get Win Vista Ultimate 64 bit to play most of my games! It will play most, I have GPL and GTR2 running ok now after much fiddling! But I cannot for the life of me get it to run GTL. I think it needs a no-cd patch but I just cant find one anywhere! If anyone knows please send me a PM :)

Anyway back to the race, I qualified second to last due to my lack of practice and circuit knowledge! But that was ok I was just going to potter around and try to finish! But come the end of lap 1 I had a total PC lock up, had to power off! This was using my XP x64 partition and it has never done that before.... strange.

Oh well see you all at the next one!

Bully  ::)

Not entirely no. ;D
I will be doing a little testing before new tracks are announced. :o

I've been removing long tracks from the schedule to improve the racing, so no Spa and there won't be Suzuka cause it's too long unless we have 30 cars on the grid. Silverstone GP was the longest we've had for some time.

after the portuguese students party week named "queima das fitas", and still under the efect of some alchool let me report that i dont like Silverstone, i hate the fact that it has turns that i cannot describe the way they are, but the race was fantastic has always, 21 laps of hard driving with trouble on the steering lock of the GhostSpeed Capri that made me loose plenty of time in 2 major corners one of them was the last corner.

Tried hard to defend the last laps from Mark Jonzo 911 but in the last lap he was faster and i didnĀ“t managed to defend my position, congrats to him for a great race moment, and also for all the Ghostspeed drivers

I wonder where are the other drivers.

P.S i will be a week of in vacations in Germany, 100 klms from Frankfurt, to see if they have better beer than the Portuguese "Super Bock" :)

Jesus i need some sleep...

You are welcome to join any GTL (and any other game) race. Skin pack and the track is enough, furthermore read the rules (especially starting procedure) and join next week. This race is already driven, next one is at Trois Rivieres at the 17th of May.
