Title: UKGPL Season 40 (Spring 2022) 1967 F1 (Works) - Sachsenring - May 15 Post by: Rainier on May 09, 2022, 09:16:37 AM +0100 Season 40 1967F1 WORKS – Round 9 – SACHSENRING
The 9th race in the 1967 Works series takes us to the Sachsenring. The Sachsenring is a long and terrifying street circuit in former East-Germany that so epitomizes the 1960s Grand Prix scene. The first race here was held on 26 May 1927 on an 8.7 km (5.4 mile) layout on public roads, running also through the village of Hohenstein-Ernstthal itself. It was dubbed "Sachsenring" in 1937. This track is slightly wider than Schottenring but just as dangerous and no easier to pass on. There are lots of undulations and slipstreaming straights so it is going to be tough on the low powered cars. Please take your time trying to overtake, it will be very difficult for following drivers to avoid any wreckage that may be littering the track.
Please READ CAREFULLY THESE NEW RULES : A driver must cross the start line in order to register the use of a chassis, participation in qualifying is not sufficient. Drivers must use 7 different chassis for their first 7 races. Only when a driver has used all 7 chassis, will they be allowed to select a chassis for the second time. Any driver who uses a chassis for the second time before all 7 chassis have been used once, will be disqualified from the race. Any driver who uses a chassis he has already used twice will be disqualified from the race. Points will be allocated from 1st to 12th as follows: 20, 15, 12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Drivers must complete 75% race distance to score. A bonus point will be awarded for pole position. A bonus point will be awarded for the fastest lap. MOD PRO so no shift-R Only reported incidents will be moderated. Please, excepting emergencies, no chat until Session Completed in qualification. No chat in the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line. Please check the Season 40 details (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=1691&theme=6) regarding rules and the 1967 F1 Works Championship pages (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=1701&theme=6) in particular. Good luck to those still running, Greg's pole time was amazing. Title: Re: UKGPL Season 40 (Spring 2022) 1967 F1 (Works) - Sachsenring - May 15 Post by: Phil Thornton on May 16, 2022, 11:46:17 AM +0100 After this race the chassis usage is as follows:
The championship is finely poised so please make sure you select a legal chassis for the final round. Title: Re: UKGPL Season 40 (Spring 2022) 1967 F1 (Works) - Sachsenring - May 15 Post by: bagrupp on May 16, 2022, 12:42:09 PM +0100 Found a hard hayball, where i lost my wheel :D

Pole position, FTD and the win. Full marks, Greg!
I did some pre-race testing here in the Eagle and it was gruesome. This place is on par with Bridgehampton with its little track gutters causing your car to dart about like it had fire ants in its pants. So, so easy to fall off the road here and that usually means a DNF. Accordingly, I decided to not even qualify and save myself for the race quite happy to start at the back. My game plan was simply to take it easy, drive well within my limits and above all, finish. I expected some retirements due to the treacherous nature of this venue. Initially, I was happy to follow Phil til he ran straight off the road on braking for the final corner giving me the place. I hooked up with Fulvio shortly after and again, was just happy to follow using him to pace me. Only a slight miscue by Fulvio in the MTS-Kurve gave me the chance to power by before we arrived at Jugend. I was able to pull away somewhat as, apparently, Fulvio's vision was giving up. No fun that. I'm surprised that I cut a 38 late on as I was still being very careful. Pleased to finish P4. Re vision problems... Besides Fulvio, I believe that someone else in post-race chat mentioned that they were having eye troubles. Chaps... I heartily recommend the use of Restasis eye drops. They are a prescription medication that I use once about two hours prior a online race. They are a lifesaver. Without them, I would have given up on online racing years ago. After that my eyes weren't the same as before, a lot of congiuntiva inflamations along the years and I have to use eyes drop for more time in a day and a gel before sleep. Work as IT man all the day in front of a PC doesn't help much. :'(
But...UKGPL is too fun ;D Title: Re: UKGPL Season 40 (Spring 2022) 1967 F1 (Works) - Sachsenring - May 15 Post by: GregT on May 17, 2022, 01:51:12 PM +0100 Congrats Tristan and Leo!
I have a Ferrari setup I´ve used to go faster. I copied it and managed to get it in good shape in the 30 minutes before qualifying. I started qualifying with a 3.4:1 5th gear knowing I have to use 3.2:1 for the race. That engine didn´t last 2 laps. My Ferrari setup is old (2014). It was a fair bit different from what I often use now. It had 5 inches (12.7 cm) of ride height. I was probably trying to use full throttle where you need to stay on the outside as you enter the forest. I was able to drop the Brabham down to 3.5 inches (8.89 cm), a height I often use on a track like this. I have to think that somebody must have cheesed off Greg somehow before he stepped into his Brabham as he certainly was driving with a fire in his heart. I was a bit angry with myself. I didn´t have the time to practice for Surfer´s Paradise or Carthage and destroyed my engines because of the improper gearing. I worried that would happen here but my experience and the time I tested beforehand was enough. Doni, I was hellbent on making a fast start. I figured if I could break away in the first few laps, I could manage the rest of the race. Luckily it would take a while before Tristan was running as fast as me. I had one bad lap. I almost spun and had to slide to a stop as I bumped the haybales. Later in that lap I almost lost it as I entered the forest. The car rotated around it´s z-axis when it got airborne. Other than that lap, I hit my marks as well as I could hope. I barely got fast lap. I wasn´t going to risk an engine failure late in the race to do 2:34s. It was nice to get the win. I didn´t expect to win any race this season. After 3 years, I´m still recovering from breaking my arm and like Fulvio, Bell´s palsy damaged my eyesight, ability to concentrate, and joy of driving. Guys, don´t forget your carrots. They´re supposed to be good for your eyes and they make a good snack. Thanks for the fun. I appreciate you letting me race with you. |
