Title: UKGPL Season 40 (Spring 2022) 1967 F1 (Privateers) - Silverstone - May 29
Post by: Phil Thornton on May 24, 2022, 11:06:22 PM +0100
Season 40 1967F1 PRIVATEERS – Round 10 – SILVERSTONE

The final race in the 1967 Grand Prix series finds us at Silverstone in England. Silverstone is built on the site of a World War II bomber base, RAF Silverstone, which opened in 1943. The track hosted the first F1 championship race in 1950. The British Grand Prix has been permanently held here since 1987. The airfield's three runways, in classic WWII triangle format, lie within the outline of the present track. The first two races were held on the runways themselves, with the 1949 International Trophy switching to the perimeter track. This arrangement was used for the 1950 and 1951 Grands Prix. In 1952 the start line was moved from the Farm Straight to the straight between Woodcote and Copse, and this layout remained largely unaltered for the following 35 years. The 1954 British Grand Prix was held at Silverstone and was won by Juan Manuel Fangio in a Mercedes M196 2.5 L8. Fangio raised Silverstone's lap record, breaking the 100 mph barrier with a lap of 100.35 mph. After an outing at Aintree in 1955, the British Grand Prix returned to Silverstone in 1956 when Fangio won again, this time in a Ferrari. Since 1975 the track has been extensively remodelled. Tonight we will be using the 1967 layout.

The championship is finely poised with two drivers capable of winning the championship. There are only 2 points between them so everything to play for in the last round!

going really well.

having some great racing, thanks Billy it was fun...

then I just touched the grass with my OSR tyre and could not control the rusulting slide and spin. So SO Sorry, but i then Took out Dave Curtis I think who had been chasing me and been giving me lots of room and keeping a safe distance from me, although he was, I think quicker, but I am so sorry mate and sincerely apologise for ruining your race.

I will of course accept anything meted out by the Mods for it... I would do a report now, but cant find the button.  but guilty as charged.  shame because everyone was going well.

so sorry to see DD had an engine explode on him.  hope other than the crash i caused everyone carried on and had a decent race.

Paul.

heres to next season.

thanks all for the good fun and the organisation. its much appreciated.

Unfortunately my engine broke

racing stuff

It was a very rewarding and fun championship.

Silver is a big clue to a decision

I always have a little difficulty with it, but today I was focused and got a quick setup, I didn't expect this break.

My engine temperature was at 83C, normal.

Congratulations Bennett, you deserved it

I hope you defend your title in privaters next season.

By the way, I hope we're all in the same group, we'll be together next time.

We could call Phil to run with us at privaters (it's a suggestion)

Thank you all for the disputes, always very clean

Big hug and until next time

I was leading the qualifiers for about 20 minutes with a 1:28+ PB in the Lotus, but since I wasn't going to be a factor in deciding the championship, I decided to DQ myself and start from the back of the pack. Unfortunately, when the grid was being populated, the green box that I would punch to be positioned in the back of the field never appeared. That meant that even more unfortunately I would then have to start from the pits. And most unfortunate of all, my pit box was well beyond the S/F line, which meant that I would be one lap down before I even got out of first gear on L1. Ah, GPL, you miserable little heartbreaker!

Still, I put my head down and started crawling through the pack, eventually reaching sixth with under ten laps to go. Then I managed to encounter Bernie --- poking along at half-speed with a smoking engine --- at the entrance to Copse. That was the end of my season.

I'm already looking forward to the next new one.  :)

Bravo Eric for this victory, and Pete for the title.

I don't forget l'équipe BGP for the teams championship !

Of course, everybody is free to choose Privateers or Works, Amateurs or Pros.

But in general when a sport team is winning in 2nd division, it is automatically qualified to 1st division for the next season.
That's a great challenge to compete with the best drivers.

Arrived home late from a long w/e away . Had to choose a car so eenie meanie minea mo Brabby is the way to go !

I started at the back (as usual) then got taken out on Lap 1 (as usual) then spent the race driving a sick car which got even sicker as the race progressed .

Apologies to all for the mobile chicane but I was determined to finish the last GP of the season .

The only highlight of a very lonely "race" was seeing Pepe dive bomb past going into Copse

7/10 for artistic impression matey  ;D

Great season and thanks to all who organised and took part .

Grats to Pete B the champ

Great race for me.

P3 was my best finish in a season with too many non-starts & non-finishes.

Interesting format with all 7 cars being compulsory. I haven't really got the hang of the Honda or the BRM.

Had an early battle with Paul until he dropped out & then maybe 10/12 laps chasing Albert. Managed to get ahead but ran wide at Copse shortly after. Fortunately for me Albert span a couple of laps before the flag leaving me a step on the podium.

Competition was tough this season. Congrats to Pete on the championship and bad luck on Dulima who could have taken the honours. You both  were consistently quick enough to move up to the Works but with Eric, Philippe & Cookie there is plenty of competition around in the Privateers.

I can only echo what everyone else has said.

A great season, I shall do less championships next season and just concentrate on the cars i like . Should allow me more practice time etc, etc. That way i might be faster, more consistent and generally safer for all around me !!

Well done billy on a fantastic podium finish mate, a great drive and win for Eric .

Congrats Pete on the Championship win & really bad luck DD for the Exploding Engine.

Cheers as ive said for all the organisation and for all you guys for being such a great bunch to race with.

Looking forwards to the next season of 67s in the privateers.

Axel was always very quick, he got several pole positions and best lap during race ...but he didn't finish any of the 10 races (even 75% of the distance). It's a pity and I don't know the reasons (pushing too hard during the races ?) !
