Season 40 – 1955 Grand Prix – Round 10 – Privateers - Hockenheim

This race announcement is for the PRIVATEERS.

The tenth and final race in the 1955 Grand Prix series takes us to Hockenheim in Germany. In 1965, when the new Autobahn A 6 separated the village from the main part of the track, an updated version of Hockenheim circuit was built, which incorporated a new "Motodrom" stadium section. Two fast chicanes were added after Jim Clark was killed on 7 April 1968 in a Formula 2 racing accident.  A small memorial was placed at the site of his accident near the first chicane. In order to improve safety even further, the track was lined with crash barriers in 1970. But the track was still dangerous and claimed the life of Patrick Depailler in 1980. So in 1982, the first chicane was made slower and a third chicane was added at the Ostkurve (east curve). In the early 2000s, Formula 1 officials demanded the 6.823 km (4.240 mi) track be shortened and threatened to discontinue racing there.  So the state government of Baden-Württemberg secured the financing for a redesign by Hermann Tilke ready for the 2002 German Grand Prix. The new "Tilke Track" was not universally popular and many drivers preferred the long circuit. Sadly the old circuit was torn up and replanted with trees thereby preventing any chance of reinstating the long circuit for Formula 1 or indeed using it for historic car races.

Tonight we will be using the 1967 version of the long track that doesn't have the three chicanes.

How can I get to use GPL setup manager from GEM ?

I have V 2.7.0 installed in GPL Secrets file but I can't get the EDIT button to work , have tried  " configure " but this asks for path to GRE (GPL race engineer ) which is in my Win86 file

The EDIT button in GEM does not work for any of the mods

What am I doing wrong here ???

Thanks

I have the same as Cookie, but my setup manger doesnt work from Gem+ either.

i seem to remember the problem was with an .ini file or spaces or incorrect spelling in some text somewhere, but I have searched and asked before But Im still unable to fix it.

would love to get it working again.  it hasnt worked since I made my new, current GPL PC

My advice is to delete/rename the gem.ini and let GEM make a new one.

You find the gem.ini in c:/users/Public/Documents/

Thanks Axel . I tried that but GEM comes back up just the same  :'(

How do you get the "Find Path To GPLSM" BOX to show ?

BTW When GEM searches for GPL installs , it can find 2 x C:\ GPL\ GPL.exe  Is this OK ?

That's the button  "Path to GRE"

When you delete the gem.ini you must do it as admin ;)

2x GPL.exe is not possible at the same place - but in windoze....

Yes Admin , It must be deleted ( Name changed to "OLDGEM " )

I can see GEM has re built because I get the start up box asking for language choice etc.

I have played around and can now get the button to work but it throws me to the GPL race page not GPLRM , presumably I have it pointed to the wrong exe . Is the one with a spanner motive the correct one ?

Seems you took the gpl.exe instead of the GPL Setup Manager.exe

Congrats Dulima on the win & the championship.

Unlucky Bernie, that looked as though you were both having a ding-dong for a while - but guess Dulima popped in that 2:12 at an inconvenient time.

My race was ok,  apart from I ran out of fuel whilst in front!  I'd configured my race setup with enough, but didn't look as though that was actually picked up when I got to the grid. Did trundle into the pits to attempt refuel.  Unfortunately, I forgot about the brake fade, overshot the pit & then car was totally empty/unable to rev.

When I stopped, my race setup looked correct but was not the current selected setup.  I normally run some laps at the end of the session with race fuel,  but did not on this occasion.

Still, it's not as though I was fighting for any decent position in the championship.

Thanks all, series was entertaining at times.

Cheers,
Dave.

Is this possible in GPL?

Is this possible in GPL?

Yes (unless specifically stated not permissible on season / specific series rules).

From the overall UKGPL rules: https://www.ukgpl.com/index.php/rules/intro (https://www.ukgpl.com/index.php/rules/intro)
  -> Game:  https://www.ukgpl.com/index.php/rules/game (https://www.ukgpl.com/index.php/rules/game)
     -> Pit Stops: https://www.ukgpl.com/index.php/rules/pitstops (https://www.ukgpl.com/index.php/rules/pitstops)

Although it was not my intention to short-fuel / next time I'll be more likely to check that the 'current' setup actually matches the 'race' setup before heading to the grid!

Cheers,
Dave.

My first pole for yonks !

A pretty nervous start for me , At the flag I tippy toed into T1 as I didn't want to be the cause of a multi disco. fortunately the following pack had the same idea . Then a few more nerves as the field caught up saw me run wide in the stadium section and everyone sweep past . Just as I was thinking it was all over I began to realise the draft was much better than I thought and I was able to play catch up .
I had some great racing with the 3 musketeers ( AKA the 3 D's ) in there SL jobs,  most of all with Dullima ,  who I was able to stay with by being later on the brakes then grabbing a nice big tow down the loooong straight bits  (straights are where I am at my best )  I think Dullima was sand bagging until the last 3 laps when he suddenly began to brake 250 meters later and just drove off into the distance .

I think the car and track flattered my driving but I was happy with my P2 finish .

Grats to the Champion and all who took part and organised everything in this great Simm  ;D

Even with the tow, I was very slow on the long straights ...
My setup surely was very bad (it could not be the driver  ;D )

I'm happy with my final 2nd position on the championship.

I think Dullima was sand bagging until the last 3 laps when he suddenly began to brake 250 meters later and just drove off into the distance .

10 races and 9 wins, I think it was a very boring season for Dulima and a boring race yesterday in Hockenheim. That should be the reason why he slowed down just to have some fun with Bernie, Francesco, Dave and very occasionnally with me.

For next season (if there is a next season + if there is a 1955 championship), I think I have more chances to win if I race with the Pros in the case Du signs again with Privateers      :)

Thank you all for the congratulations
Dave, Bernie, Jonny and Rainier
Bernie, I liked the three "D", the connotation was excellent

Me with mod 55, I had a big problem with frames, especially at the start, they went down too much, it was practically impossible to drop in the middle of the pack

So I signed up for Privaters to drop more at the end, because with that, it was less bad and wouldn't cause any problems to report to anyone

Glad I solved it, I was running in direct 3D and I switched to Open GL V2, it improved 80%

Really Rainier, I was slowing down so we could have a dispute, but that won't happen anymore

Next season I will apply to Works

Thank you all for the clean disputes

It's a pleasure for me to run with you all

My race was finished with the problem of the camshaft but in the initial laps i was behind  Dulima.I don't rember if was the third lap or other but arrived at the end of the straight before the Motodrom,i was so worried to not touch Dulima that I did not realise that my brake was red.
The consequence  was seen by those following me
