Title: UKGPL Season 40 - F1 55 - Boreham Airfield - Jul 3
Post by: Cookie on July 01, 2022, 11:17:37 PM +0100
Season 40 – F1 55 Mod – Boreham Airfield

Let's try the 55 mod on this wide track  :scooter:

GPL member Pete Bennett has invested a chunk of his personal time to create a brand new track.
This is a real track (at least until it was built over) converted from a British airfield in the late 1940’s and saw a few years racing into the early 50’s.
The track is now on public release – as per the link below.

Boreham Airfield gets its maiden  GPL 55  race this Sunday.

Simple handicapping rule – fast drivers should not take a Mercedes

let's have fun!

Apologies for the carnage at T1. It was only as I arrived there at max veloce that I discovered GPL had reverted to "default" setup and not the nice setup that I had built during quali  :-\ .

I know that I had selected it for "race" as I did that with 10 mins of quali still left, so not exactly sure why it defaulted  ???

Anyway hope you guys had fun

Thanks for all the testing on this track over the past week. The hours making it have all been worth it. Seems to work pretty well in every mod. 55s are fun as there is so much room to practice your drifting.

See you all back on track soon.

Enjoy the break.

Pete

Great run by Pete to score the win!  A lucky P2 pour moi.  Jonny a great recovery to score the last podium place.  And just look at that podium!  If you didn't suit up in a Maser, you were just plain out of luck.  :)

A pretty decent run for me in the Maser.  Only two dramas.  The first was off the grid where my neglect of dialing in a proper bottom gear for launch cost me places within the first few metres.  The second was a tap in the tail of Andreas that sent him spinning off.  Felt bad for that.  Two options here.  Carry on as if nothing happened or slow and wait for him to catch up and pass.  I did the latter as it was the 'Canadian' thing to do.

Managed a pass on Andreas that stuck the very next lap and inched away.  It looked like Leo was going to surface and spoil my party mid-race but he spun and let me off the hook.  Waited to the 2nd last lap to try to stick in a PB.  Close but still a tenth off my best.

TY for organizing and hosting!

In post-race chat, Pete asked which was our favourite corner.  I responded, 'The one in my rear view mirror.'  That's the objective view point as I've managed to not bugger it up.  From a subjective view, I'd have to say Waltham.  I like the difficult entry and the chance to get on the power early with lots of curvy bits still to come.  It's an increasing radius type which I find more pleasing than decreasing rad corners.
