Title: UKGPL Season 40 (Spring 2022) - Crystal Palace - Jul 22

Season 40 FUN:  MOD F2 - Crystal Palace

For a bit of fun, we'll be at Crystal Palace, a former motor racing circuit in London, England. The circuit was located within Crystal Palace park. The route of the track is still largely extant today but the roads are now mainly used for access to the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre located in the park and to events within the upper parts of Crystal Palace Park. Some parts of the track are closed off and part is used for an annual Sprint Meeting, on the Spring Bank Holiday weekend.

In 1953 he circuit had been reduced in length to 1.39 miles (2.2 km), bypassing the loop past the lake, and pressure from the local residents led to an injunction which reduced motor sport events in the park to only five days per year. A variety of races took place, including sports cars, Formula Three, the London Trophy for Formula Two, and even non-championship Formula One races.

Average speeds continued to rise over the years, with the first 100 mph (161 km/h) lap average set in 1970 by that year's Formula One world champion, Jochen Rindt. Also in 1970, the injunction limiting race days expired and racing was increased to 14 days a year. However, driver safety was coming into focus in the early seventies and it became clear that racing around a park at 100 mph (161 km/h) was not safe. Expensive improvements were undertaken, but it was not enough to save the circuit. The last International meeting was in May 1972, the final lap record going to Mike Hailwood at an average speed of 103.39 mph (166.39 km/h).

Free choice of chassis.

Wow! The F2 lap records are from S3. Come on Tris, time to beat them.

This track is just too intense for me. Its like Monaco but the corners are much faster. I retired a couple of laps before the end after losing a wheel against the same piece of wall for the 2nd time.
Good battle with Paul for the dozen or so laps that neither of us made an error.

Hi folks, that was fun  ;D

I apologise for the three-abreast grid at the start. I had made a loose staggered grid in my track.ini but forget to make a trackf2.ini file with the same numbers. Lesson learned for next time. Hopefully UKGPL07 was a stable connection for you all and we can continue to use it in S41. Lasse and Tris, that was some awsomely close racing there - great fun. Thank you.

Everone knew how to behave at the start and no matter which car I encountered, the car's movements into corners looked very smooth. Seems like the server is working well, and the first race on it was a nice one. :)

Obviously this track is very intense like Billy said, so the tendency towards self-induced spins that everyone seemed to encounter was quite natural. After my first mistakes I thought the win was way out of reach, turns out (almost? did anyone have a spin-free race?) nobody could keep it on track for the entire time. :D Really enjoyed the awesome, clean battles with Tris and Pete, shame you two collided at the end in front of me, otherwise I'm sure that we would have had a lot of fun at the very end. ;)

Thanks for organizing and participating, Pete and everyone! :)

Some great fun dicing with long-time arch-rival, Andreas.  Started to fade with fatigue and forgot to take my medicated eye drops so had to park it before I went blind.

Hi guys. I fully understand the difficulties this tiny track brings to having a race, imagine what it was like in a early 70s formula one or two car.  Bloody mental.

I like it because I used to go there as a kid to watch the racing with my big brother Dave. We also went to the park for pinics etc. My school used the place for our swimming sports days. It was the only place in London with a public "Olympic " pool.

Pete, the server was excellent.  Great fps, no lag. It was as solid as a rock... can't say that about everything at my age.. LOL.

such a shame Billy couldn't continue.  We had some absolutely brilliant laps together. You guys missed it. You should try running at the back sometimes. It's good there too.

Hope your ol eyes are better now Doni.

Some very cool driving on a difficult track.. let's do 65s there sometime.

Paul.

I was wondering why you turned into the box. But then I thought it had something to do with your eyes. We're all not getting any younger or healthier...  :wheelchair:
