Season 41 – 1955 Grand Prix – Round 2 – Privateers - Boreham Airfield

The second race in the 1955 Grand Prix series finds us at Boreham Airfield in the UK. RAF Boreham closed in 1946 and subsequently the West Essex Car Club developed the 2.95 mile perimeter track into a motor racing circuit. Although not on the official Grand Prix calendar, Boreham Circuit hosted competitive races between 1949 and 1952. Among the teams that raced at Boreham were BRM, Connaught, Frazer Nash, and Talbot-Lago. Among the drivers who raced there were Mike Hawthorn, Stirling Moss, and Ken Wharton. In 1955 the Ford Motor Company bought the airfield to use as a test facility for trucks, as well as the base for their Competitions Department where they prepared their cars.

Congrats up front! From my viewpoint (which was becoming further & further behind) you both looked close the entire race.

Well done Francesco. Nice drive and a well deserved win.

We had some good racing tonight. Makes a change for me not to start at the back. Got a very good start and then just drove steady. Tried really hard to keep my foot off the brake pedal. Seemed to work tonight. Best race and result I've had in a longtime.

I put some pressure on when I could but tried not to Overdrive the car and was always wary of keeping my distance. Once or twice the lack of brakes nearly caused some problems.

But was for me really good and clean race. I must apologise to Dave C as I did make him brake a bit hard so as to miss me.

Sorry mate. Wasn't expecting you to be approaching me like an exocet missile. Lol

a well deserved win.
A victory but don't forget that the 2 stronger have eliminated themselves.

I noted the very close finish to this race between Fran & Paul so pulled down the replay cap to have look-see.  My!  Those last laps were thrilling indeed!

Take a bow, Fran!  Well done, Paul!  :)

Engine exploded after ...10 meters.

Probably my shortest race.

Well done Fran.
Thank you Clive but was possible because of the accident between the 2 stronger.
Anyway ,during the race, I struggled to keep under control an indemoniated Paul
