I have a strange feeling the Vette will be awefull here...but it is on the LOD ;D

The carchoices are very wide for this race, so for the love of God don't make this another Porsche/Pantera show :(

Indeed. Love streettracks, but also the variety of such a track. Well done  :thumbup2:

I'm always considering the BMW, but since I'm not that fast I'm always thinking of which car I'm fastest in. That doesn't mean the fastest car, but the car I'm the most consistent in.

The circuit layout I don't think suits any particular car, you can gain a huge amount in the corners with a planted car and only the S/F straight is long really so it's going to be a battle of straight line speed versus ability to get round corners and not crash into the walls.

... and not crash into the walls.

That last part especially. Get a little too excited chasing someone and you're likely to damage your car. I think something that's relatively easy to drive would fair well here. I've never driven a track like this in GTL, I hope I can make the race, but I might already be on my way to weekend practice come thursday.

I'm thinking I'll take the bimmer too.

This track is a great choice - something a little different, and so rewarding once you get the hang of it...have to deffo get some practice in this week beforehand.

Maybe the ahem*cough*911 for me...or the CSL  ;D

I've not done any laps here as yet, but I'll probably go with the Capri as I'm getting more familiar with it.  Or possibly the Beamer as that was a laugh to drive the other week.

Hopefully I will be able to make this one in my beloved Capri, though as usual I doubt I will have done any practice or even have learned the circuit. ::) :D

No other pack required. It should just work.  :-\
Are you on low or high res track textures (advance or graphics options in game somewhere)?

Hi
Have tried both. Only thing that stops it is switching to direct X 9 but the frame rate drops from 70 to 20 and it is undriveable.

I could barely get a 1.37.9 in the BMW  :scooter:

I've always sucked at the city tracks, in every game I've tried, so I can't say what others will do.

Ok sorry for the delay. I've narrowed down the problem on mine to using Low Res Track textures. I ran it on DX7 with 16-bit colours and only got that black effect when using Low Res Track Textures. To turn on the high res textures, in game, go to OPTIONS->ADVANCED->LOW RES TRACK TEXTURES and make sure it is not checked. It looks like this track only works with High Res Track Textures I guess, although the readme does not mention it at all.

Hrmm, if you're running 1:37s i'll probably be in the 1:42 area

I managed a 1:40.1 in the 2600 RS Capri after 15 laps!  I won't be driving THAT on Thursday night (just having a laugh with it).

I'm guessing someone (in a 906 probably, I'm sure light weight will be better than power) will manage the 1:35s.

All the very best Peter, I'll be trying not to hit your car like I did at Goodwood last Wednesday, oops.

Yeah I found that too with the Pantera, without lifting you can rail-ride but railriding is strictly forbidden as it's cheating.

Simon, meant to ask about the cars - I see the 906 is listed twice.  Was one supposed to be the 914 or is it just duplication?

I ask as I was going to try to 914 tonight, it's so nimble it could be great fun at Long Beach.  Of course, it may well be 3 seconds off the pace in which case I guess the Capri it is!!

Hopefully I will be able to make this race.
American track…so V8 is the order of the day.  The track loads with picture of a Vette – so I may take the hint from that  ;)   Tricky track….i guess most street circuits are, even the straight isn’t easy. I should be able to get a V8 powered car around in under 1:40 wow wee.

My frame rates/textures seem OK….running a retro X850XT with 7.1 Omega drivers.

Hi all
I'm new to GTL, and I'd like to join the race tonight. Just one question, the race time on the first page, is it GMT or CET?
I maybe new to GTL, but I'm a GPL veteran (a member of UKGPL actually). I've read the rules, pretty usual stuff like from gpl, except for the rolling single column start. I've got that skin pack too. I'll be taking the vette. Anything else I should know?
I'm looking forward to my first GTL race.

Thanks. I'm in CET zone, so it's an hour later local time for me.

You should probably check in advance that you can connect ok. Outside championship races the practice servers run 24-7 so you can test the skin pack installation and so forth in advance.

Practice server password can be found here (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=2929.0).

Basically this password is used for most things that are not a championship race (which have their own passwords), so if you can't get into one of our servers or a private chat room and so forth try the practice password first.

Looking forward to racing against you.

And I'm still having trouble with the track loading properly and may need to log in three times before it does. I am on high res track textures but it makes no difference. Think it's just a direct X 7 issue but frames rates too low in 8 or 9.

That was a tough race and not glad I chose that mean green grilling machine. Wow it looks great and sounds great but sucks to drive. It's only saving grace was that it powered easily past anything on the straight, but wouldn't brake for it's life nor corner. Was an experience but I don't get on with the muscle cars so something more nimble for me next time. Wish I'd chosen a different car now as the track was kinda scarey fun. ;D ;D

Hard race - but i like the track  ::)
I inadvertantly knocked my keyboard off the desk whilst just starting the warmup lap (reaching for tab button), switching to external view of the car :-\ - was trying like crazy to get the keyboard back and switch the view, but couldnt do it whilst driving... >:(
Eventually got to hood view, but no mirror or instruments, so was driving the race almost blind - sorry if i held anyone up or caused any problems...

Grats to the winners and everyone who entered - nice turnout aswell  8)

Also sorry to Mark on the last few laps - i think i nudged you on the last turn when trying to go too fast with the 911 suspension falling to pieces  :-\

Good quali (only put the track on at 7.30) and a pb in it to boot.  ;D
Ruined both Steve Holmes and my race by being magnetically attracted to the rear of his car, felt it only right that I waited for him.   :-[
Still, found the track enormous fun once I got dialled into it, had a bit of a scrap with Pribeiro but mucked that up with a mistake too....ho hum.  ::)

This race felt like a victory for me. A good result in a bad car is more rewarding than winning in a good car IMO.

I was very pleased with my qually time. Right behind a 906 which I knew I could take right after the start on power. And so it happened ;D.

But then I had Bara behind me for alot of laps and I had to try and protect the inside and just power away on the straight. I could keep that for the forst 1/3 of the race, but then tire problems came. I couldn't keep up after he past me.

I then had to keep a steady pace and not let the nr4 guy come close. But then I spun in the next to last lap. I try to 180 the car straight, but I clipped the wall with the rear, leaving me in a dangerous position while Ossie was approaching. I couldn't see what was coming as I was 90 degrees of the incoming traffic. So I waited to hear people past, so I hoped I didn't scare anybody. Sorry Ossie. probably looked n00bish of me :-[.

Finished 4th, which is quite good for a Vette on a street track ;D.

Really enjoyed the circuit once I got into a rhythm, one of the best drives I've had for a while.

Hats off to those who took the Vette must have been a handful to say the least. Unlucky for Ruskus - so close to a podium with the Vette.

Wasnt a pleasent race for me. :-\
Qualified 9th. :-X
Lap 5, i was in 5th place, when i spun and hit the wall, on that uphill straight.
I lost front splitter ::)
From then, i was having massive understeering on medium and fast corners,
slow corners was ok....but that right at S/F straight?!?! :-\ i was loosing there,
2 seconds for sure, some close and nice batlles untill lap 17 :) so i feel some luck
and joy for my final 6th place 8)
I saw very good driving, during race. ;)

Congratulations to my team mates Assassino and Baracus for the double

Cheers

P.S. dont forget to use pit limiter when driving trough pit lane :whistling:

Hmm, mixed feelings about this track.

When in clear space and able to push i could get a good rhythm going and set quick times. Hence my ,what was 5th place qually until the dying bleeding seconds when both Madd (again!) and Mgorgan jumped me and pushed me down to 7th with a 1:35 time :(

Race start i pressed the wrong button and left my limiter on enabling two more cars to jump me before T1  ::)
Had some good battles along the way, enjoyed a scrap with Bernie and had a great fight with the red Corvette of Keiths?
Got nerfed around by my teamie  :( and lost about 4 places. Then caught and passed people before more annoying little spins.
I found it just a little frustrating to race on as it was too easy for the car to get out of shape and go into a spin, even just trying to avoid other peoples wobbles etc and it kinda stopped my fun of just racing a little, but a different sort of track so welcome all the same. Not a fave though  :-\

Well done to all who turned up (another 18?)  :-* and congrats to the top 5.  8)

Is there also another later version of this track available, one without the uphill & downhill sections?

Congrats to those who kept it together.  :)

Miserable race for me (never even matched my pb set after 10 laps of practice on Tuesday), but absolutely not for being tapped a couple of times, that's racing, no problem - led to a comedy moment as Madd-RIP waited to let me rejoin while I repeatedly stalled it in reverse, then 1st and so on.... ???  If I could have multi-tasked at that moment I would have typed that you carry on and leave me stalling  ;)

Need to work less (damn that 'earning-a-living'), by the time the race started I was already exhausted and couldn't keep up concentration, so one clean lap was followed by 2-3 laps of out of shape slideyness.  Maybe next time I'll not bother practice or qually so I have enough concentration to last more of the race!

Slid the back into the wall on lap 16 and must have lost my rear wing, car was oversteering under minimal power.  At that point I had the fastest race lap, was intending to at least try a few more hot laps for fun, but no chance.  Of course, several people went faster towards the end  :(

Not a good track for a tired head, shame really as it's an interesting track.  Time for bed now.....

This was my first GTL race off or online. Had some good battles early on, especially with Mark McClean, who was driving an identical Vette. He stayed close behind for 4-5 laps with some very fair fighting, even though he was clearly faster.  He got a good exit out of the last turn on lap 9 or so, we went side by side the whole "straight" and he outbraked me into t1. Great fight. Then some weren't so patient , and after getting spun a couple of laps later I fell into last place. Still I kept contact with a couple of cars ahead for the the rest of the race, until the leaders came by to lap us. I have to apologize here to, I think Mgoran. I let him through and then tapped and spun him at the last turn. Really sorry about that, I waited here for all near by cars to go by before continuing. Enjoyable race in a car that was awsome on the straights, and wouldn't turn in the corners. :), and I just missed out on a point.

Initially when I loaded the track and had a practice on it I didn't like it very much. After about 8 lps into the race I really started to enjoy the track and 906 combo.  Race was not that successful but totally enjoyed, I love GTL.  No probs Ruskus btw I was trying not to ruin your race as my car felt as if I was driving on ice after 10 laps. :P

good race for me in the only red vette...nice battle with Mark Jonzo in the 911 for a few laps - shame the coming together put an end to it (no ones fault).
was surprised to see the big block vette do so well at this track, stnasky passed me towards the end like i was standing still.  Respect to Ruskus...whatta fantastic performance! Grats to ASSASSINO.
at least i was the fastest Goodyear runner  ;)
v.good turn out for this race too ;D  which is great to see.

Thanks. Good to see other people in the Vette as well  ;D. That car can be so much fun, shame people often take the safe route and not wonder in adventerous areas  ;)

That red Dukes of Hazzard Corvette looked dead tasty around this track, :-* it looked almost real the way it rocked on its springs in the corners.
Kudos to those that drove it, it made for a great battle with my more nimble but under-powered 911  8)

Yeah this track perfectly illustrated the David / Goliath aspect of GTL.
It was really interesting trying to work out a way past the monster - but it's a shame your tyres went of Jeff as it was inevitable that I would get through eventually I guess!

The layout seemed to have just short enough straight bits in between the bends for the 906 to not be able to get down the inside really. Even when I was right on the towbar of the vette coming out of the last hairpin he'd be 1.2 - 1.4 away by the Start/Finish line - so had to make it all back up during the lap then the same thing would happen again!

There were places I could coast through bends a bit quicker but would need all the road to make a run so had to back off thus killing the momentum. As soon as I got passed I started clocking PB's but could never challenge Assassino even after he had a half-spin infront. Another corking race and a track I really started to get into towards the end.
