Season 41 – 1966 F1 Series – Montjuic Park 1969

This track was a street circuit on Montjuic mountain above Barcelona. A twisty tricky circuit, it was the site of the tragic 1975 Spanish Grand Prix. Many drivers felt that the circuit was unsafe, and two time world champion Emerson Fittipaldi withdrew in protest before the start of the race. On lap 26 the Embassy Hill-Lola car of Rolf Stommelen left the track, killing five people. The race was subsequently stopped at half distance and half points awarded, with Jochen Mass being recorded as the winner. Lella Lombardi became the first female driver to score world championship points, taking 0.5 points for 6th place. Formula One never returned to the circuit after the accident.

Please check you are using the version of the track with updated graphics - just follow the link below.

A driver must cross the start line in order to register the use of a chassis, participation in qualifying is not sufficient.

The tokens system will be used with drivers being awarded tokens for starting the season and for starting each race. Each car will cost a number of tokens per race. Pro standard drivers will receive 10 tokens at the start of the season & a further 10 tokens for each additional start. Amateur drivers will receive 20 tokens at the start of the season and a further 10 tokens for each additional start. Driver ranks can be found at the bottom of this e-mail.

Drivers are reminded that Lap 1 incidents carry an extra 1 place penalty.

Drivers must complete 50% race distance to score.

Unlimited number of Shift-Rs are allowed with no need to make Stop & Go.

Only reported incidents will be moderated.

Please, excepting emergencies, no chat until Session Completed in qualification. No chat in the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

I got home late so I only got the last 15mins of qually but I was happy with my lap time. I made a few mistakes but I was also held up a couple of times by roadblocks caused by accidents ahead. But that didn't stop me having a good battle with Andreas, Bastian and Dave Rainier. Even if my race had been incident free there was no chance I was going to challenge the leaders. Lasse's pace was phenomenal. I can't use my car as an excuse  :o

Really enjoyable race from my end.

I thought I'd spice things up after winning last race in the cheapest car, knowing that many will opt for the two-liter cars here, I go the opposite direction and take the Cooper, which I reckoned would be just about rightly balanced against my peers, and I think I wasn't off on that assessment.

I had to push for qualifying but got no further than P4, but I think I could get by the others at the start. In the end I got by only Tom. I almost had Tristan but I but got spun in a 360. Think it's on me not giving much space. I would get by using my power on the straight, but lost it couple laps later on inner kerb of Vias.

That's where the fun part started for me. After dropping down to P6 I had a recovery drive in the making, and it wasn't an easy one, as the smaller cars were faster through the twisty bits, but me with the power advantage. It got particularly fun chasing Tristan and Tom, as our pace often seemed level.

Eventually I did get by them to reclaim P2, but that wasn't the end of it, as Tom kept pressuring me until the end as I didn't enjoy the pace like I used to with the slipstream was gone on my part. However, I could keep him behind and I took the flag...

...many miles behind Lasse who absolutely destroyed us all. Great pace!

See you next race.

I could only join relatively late in quali because Windows had overwritten my GPU drivers for some generic Windows ones, and that after half a year of using my GPU without a problem. You can turn that update feature off, and I get that Windows wants to optimize stuff for the user, but come on... Last week AMD released a new driver for my GPU (RX 580), and probably other GPU's, I suspect that might have to do with it. Hope not many other AMD users are affected by this At least there is a help page referenced in the AMD Software that quickly got me back up and running.

But there was still plenty of time to secure a good lap and so I managed to secure pole. The pace was already looking very promising from the start and only got better with each lap, so I was confident going into the race.

But I knew that Tristan, who started in P2, is usually fast off the line, and my start had to be on point to defend into T1. Luckily I had the inside and could defend. Then some car already came very close to my rear, and 10 seconds later I already had a 100m gap on Pribluda to P2. So that made life easy for me, and I could focus fully on my pace and on nailing the track. Got into a very good rhythm, consistently in the high 33s at the beginning, and kept it in the 33s until the very end. It required a lot of focus to maintain that pace on this demanding street course, but using a 2-liter car certainly helped. Lapped cars were aware and courteous, there was just that one time when I tried to slip by Andreas on the inside and judging from my mirror, it seemed like he moved out of the way last-second during the apex. Sorry if I wasn't patient enough there, glad it didn't cause any further issues for you.

Congrats to Yannick for a great recovery drive after an early mishap and to Tom for a close P3, seems like you had a lot of fun out there! :) Well done all finishers, bad luck DNF's, on this tricky track that can catch you out when you least expect it, especially over the bumps in T1... Hopefully Spa brings more luck, though I wouldn't bet on that... ;)

Wonder if the same upgrade issue Lasse had could have happened to my G Force GPU ? It would explain the recent issues I have been having .

I absolutely Love this track and was very sorry to see it closed due to the safety issues .  I was a spectator there in 1975 happily watching the race unfold from a track side position 400m before the hairpin when Stomellen's Lola crested the hill out of control and crashed into the crowd .

Luckily I had moved from trackside onto a terrace step for a better view of the cars cresting the rise . It could so nearly have been the last GP I would ever see If I had stayed in the same spot !

Had a fantastic race with Tristan, Yannick and early on with Fulvio. I expected my BT11 2.5 to get overtaken going up the hill, but was surprised to have only lost one position going into T1. On lap 4, Yannick's spin allowed Tristan, myself and Fulvio to get by. Lap 11, Fulvio has a spin and Yannick is now behind me with Tristan still ahead of me. Lap 15 Tristan spins letting me by, and on lap 16 letting Yannick back behind me. I knew if Yannick got close, he would be able to power by on the straights. Lap 22 Yannick was very close going into T1 and I pushed to far and went wide giving up 2nd place. Managed to stay close to Yannick in the twisty bits but had nothing for the Cooper on the straights. Very fun Yannick, thanks for the race everyone!
