Season 41 – 1955 Grand Prix – Round 7 – Privateers - Brno

For the seventh race in the 1955 Grand Prix series we visit Brno in Czechoslovakia. The original circuit which dates from 1931 was approximately 18 miles (29 km) of public roads on the outskirts of Brno. The start was located in Bosonohy and it ran in an anti-clockwise direction through Kejbaly, Libusino, Kohouvotice, Žebětín, Ostrovacice and Veselka. The circuit retained this layout until 1937 when war brought racing to a close. In 1949 Brno re-opened and on 25 September 1949, a Grand Prix race was held on the street circuit.  The race was run clockwise on a shorter 11.1 miles (17.8 km) layout, which turned right at Veselka, bypassed Ostrovacice and entered Žebětín from the south rather than the west. In spite of a crowd in excess of 400,000 people, this would be the last Grand Prix for cars on the old street circuit. The race was won by Peter Whitehead a Ferrari 125. Whitehead had several race wins, including the 1938 Australian Grand Prix and the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1951, but he is also notable as the first person to whom Enzo Ferrari ever sold a Formula One car. It is the same car he drove to victory in this race. In fact, the 125 was the first Formula 1 car Ferrari produced ready for the inaugural Formula 1 season in 1950. Numerous changes were made to the street circuit until it was finally closed in 1987 in order to move the racing onto the newly purpose-built race circuit situated just off the original course, between Ostrvacice and Zebetin where the races continue to this day.

The 1930's version of this track, as described above, is under construction.  It's been in Beta testing for some time.  A completion date is waiting ubtil it has been completed :  http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=13884&st=0

The longer track version adds onto the existing scenery.  So in this race, to help with testing, Ill be leaving the track at Zebetin, and rejoining at Veselka, whilst driving backwards.

Sadly, I have considered building the M25 for GPL. Could be fun scaled down to 4 miles in length.

You could take Avus, and buldoze the high banked corner, then drive it backwards.  Road signs woild then face backwards, so no-one would know.

The Gods were not smiling on me, this day.  Before even arriving, I'd scrambled to discover the I.P. address was changed.  Arrived  none-the-worse, but the car behaved badly Online, with forward progress unsustainable for a lap.  Kept you all waiting while a setup change finaly worked, and then . . . the lap did not register.  "Grumble!"  Started LAST. :(

Luckily, we're all well experienced at race starts here.  So, only one accident ahead at the first corner, which I avoided.  Then, only one at the second which blocked the track!  So, not sure how we all survived, but I came away in 2nd place, and with a jaunty looking front suspension.  "Grumble!" No, the Gods were not smiling. :ninja:

With every surviver now following closely, and at a modest 140mph, I had to figure out how to keep my traumatized car on the road, and avoid causing another slalom test!  Hobbled around until commencing battle with Christian for 2nd or 3rd place.  It was an ungodly mistake for my 3 wheeler to make.  The last straw that caused my bail out.

A 100mph first corner, where the track is narrow, is not the best place to test the width of two cars combined, unless the God's are smiling.

Not much to say except I had a PB qually on race fuel then got snagged in the lap 1 dodgems after which my car seemed to have the handling qualities of a shopping trolley . pleased I could finish a lowley 4th after numerous spins .

Grats to team SBR On the 1 & 2 finish + DR the only other survivor .

Bernie, Philippe and Francesco could win this championship.

It will be difficult for Francesco but it is still possible if Bernie and Philippe could not finished the race (and less than 50% of the distance)
But I remember Francesco won at Nassau last season, so everything could happen!
