I'll be racing for sure, might be tempted into a Yanky-tank .... but I might stick with "old-faithful" and jump in the Legends liveried Alfa.

It's under shdijon in the track list, there are many hundreds for most cars.  Sub 1:18 is pretty quick, if anyone breaks 1:17 that would be mightily impressive.  For the Alfa that is, other cars maybe 0.5-1 s a lap slower.

Me, I'm hoping for low 1:18s in Cortina (particularly if I watch a few quick drivers, I'm never sure how much to cross the strange kerbs at Dijon).  It's almost like the track is a vague concept defined by cut track warnings.....

What car are you driving Backo?  I reckon I will be in the Alpha....I can't handle the yank muscle and the Cortina's too common ;D

Damn, never seen that before. Qualified in 9th, joined the grid with 15 seconds to go before start, nobody else on it. Couldn't see any of the other cars. Had no choice but to ESC to the pits. And from there I could see the race had started. Anybody experienced this before?

I think i have experienced this on some public servers before - i was stuck behind you at the start waiting for you to go
Nevermind anyway.
Had some good scraps there with some great driving from Tom Cooper, also Madmac and Pseudo i think.
Managed to catch Adam in the final third of the race, but that Falcon just rockets down the s/f strait compared to the Alfa - good to see how the Alfa is quicker on the bends, but the Falcon rules the straits.
Nearly caught Dave on the final lap, but the outright power of the Falcon won again.

Great driving from all - really enjoyed that one  8)

New one on me Phil....although I did start one from the pit lane after missing the start?

Well what can I say about that?  FUN comes to mind..

I qualified my best possition ever 5th..with a pb. ;D ;D

Got a little buffeted at the first corner...probably trying to be too careful...there where cars left and right..infront, behind...above and below it seemed  :o
lost a few places there and then promptly spun.....been practicing all day and not spun once there???

For some reason it felt like a different car to the one I practiced with and qualified in....handled more like a yank tank for the first half a dozen laps.

But anyway....it was great fun...had a couple of good little battles with Will and......oooops sorry forgot who else ::) and totally enjoyed it......ROLL ON KNOCKHILL. :jumpjoy:

In a word... hilarious! :D And to think I almost didn't bother...

No idea where I qualified but it didn't really matter because only Adam and I were in the Falcon, everyone else taking shopping trolleys. Didn't make up as many places off the start as I expected as the grid was very tight and Adam's slower getaway ahead meant I had to roll off the throttle a little.

Followed Adam for many laps, swapping places with Backo who kept coming past and then going off again. Between one of these occaisions I managed to squeek past Adam, who was fairly obviously using his tyres more. I slowly pulled away until he had some sort of moment and the gap suddenly grew, but I watched as it closed again slowly; backed off a tiny bit to try and preserve my tyres a little more in case I needed them for a last lap scrap... good job because it turned out to be Will's Alfa on a charge. He had a go in the final corner but I closed the door just in time and despite a light tap (which not surprisingly the Yank Tank completely failed to feel :D ) I crossed the line 6th, matching my performance from yesterday's Formula BMW race over on Race2Play. ;D

I believe so although it's never happened to me personally.

Awesome race - and interesting with it.

Me and DG were the only ones brave/foolish enough to take the heavy metal option :punk: - and started 8th and 10th respectively.  Both of us got a decent start, sneaking up by the pit wall and using the serious power advantage the Falcon granted us.  By T1 we were in 5th and 7th I think - or there abouts anyway.  Despite being slower than those around us, the sideways nature round the bends combined with massive straight line speed made for one hell of a tussle with the Alfas.  I couldn't help but laugh as I got passed in the 2nd half of each lap .... only to be seconds clear by the time the lap counter advanced once more.

Had epic battles for the first 21 or so laps, with Steve, Dave, Backo and others (sorry -I forget who else) - thoroughly knackering driving.

DG had been infront for a few laps after I'd slid wide at T1 allowing him to pass .... and then on lap 22 my rapidly diminishing supply of molten rubber sealed my fate, a spin losing me 5 seconds on Dave, leaving a 7 second gap that I couldn't close without Dave having his own issues .... which he did, just not enough to get me even close.

In the end I got caught by Will in his Alfa, and my tyres meant it was only a matter of time.

At the end of the race my rear left tyre was showing 36.9% wear - with temperatures being around 120 all race long.  I'd tried changing things round before the race without success - I just had to hope for the best.  Dave had 23% I think - and that was the difference, otherwise we'd have been at it all race long.

Bloody fantastic racing, grats to Baracus (as ever) - and apologies to Backo, I knew you were somewhere on my inside but the tank was sliding all over the place. Cheers for the racing DG - it was reminicent of the tussles we had in past seasons with GTR2 - great fun.

ps.  Ossie - if you want material for a vid watch the first 21 laps with me, DG and a supporting cast of Alfas - should make cracking viewing ;) .

Whatever do you mean ........ ;D

Think I didn't do my tyres any favours ..... but it was worth it.  I'd be interested to hear what pressures etc you ran - I cant imagine that the higher wear was entirely about driving style.

Default setup, rear dampers 1 click stiffer in bump and rebound, front tyre presures up by 5 (175 to 180 or something like that), 67 litres of gas, and final drive longer by one click. Nothing else changed - pretty much what I always do in GTL.

I'd taken my pressures down .... it felt great to start with but the added tyre wear meant I really struggled after 2/3rds of the race had run.

Hi guys

Great race, has some really fair close racing with both Will and T Cooper. Managed to do all thirty laps undamaged and without leaving the track! First time with you guys I think! Hope to see you all next week.

Results (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3370) and replay (https://replay.simracing.org.uk/ukgtl/UKGTL%20S3%20Warmup%20-%20TC-65%20-%20Dijon%20090807.zip) available.

P.S. Gizmo, when I clicked "Generate Standings" it took a very long time and eventually went to a blank page entitled "https://www.simracing.org.uk/lm2/index.php?action=stands", so I suspect something is a-miss there.

Exactly the same happened to me. I think it was because i only did one stint in qually due to guests being here and others joined afterwards.

Hmmmmmm....Don't think that was the best standing start ever  :-\...seemed a bit chaotic compared to the others we've tried. Was probably due to the 'issues' some folk experienced. Hopfully though they will be good in L3 proper. If these issues are caused by people joining late, is there any means by which this could be illiminated to try and avoid future problems?

Any problems were probably also exacerbated by the massive difference in straight line performance between the Falcons and the shopping trolleys. :o

Thanks, Sharky. Standings seems to be okay now - it appears to take about twice as long as the old server, but we're on a newer version of MySQL and the standings and results display is faster, which is the important bit. Still got to keep an eye on connectivity to the new server....

Some of the frontrunners were a little slow going, and that's all it takes.  If someone's slow getting going, the person behind has to lift .... and that causes a concertina effect right the way back down the field.  I had to lift after the Alfa in front of me was slow getting started, I know DG had to lift as a result ... etc etc.  No launch control on these classics I'm afraid - so we'll just have to remain vigilant at the start.

BTW, I spent a while playing with formation lap stuff in GTL on my own server and unfortunately it simply doesn't work. Reconnaisance laps seems to work to a degree, but it's a little bit odd, so unfortunately we're stuck with GTL as it is, either doing our own rolling starts or standing starts. I couldn't even find a way to increase the race countdown timer, which at 30 seconds is ridiculously short.

Exactly, I was in 4th, got away okay but then had to lift as the 2nd place Alfa was a little slow and it all gets going from there, but it was pretty clean at the front, I saw no contact, of course its the middle of the pack that suffers.

Great fun, absolute hoot with Adam's Falcon, constant pass and repass until I could get ahead just enough not to be swallowed on the straight.  I think that race was a good advert for sometimes combining the V8s and I4s.

Gotta say absolute respect to mgoran  8) , he had a huge fight with stnasky for 2nd for the first half of the race, and it was only really them fighting that allowed me to close up, after stnasky spun, he then had me to contend with.  My tyres must have held up better as I was just a tiny bit quicker over the final 1/3rd of the race, but he drove so consistently it took me about 5 laps of close following to finally find an opening, and then as soon as I was ahead I started overdriving to pull away and so went slower.  2 laps in 2nd and then he had me back and drove really neat for the final 4 laps so although I was right on his tail I couldn't find a way by.

If only I could drive that cleanly under pressure for so long, I think the sight of a car in the mirror lunging towards me under brakes makes me brake a few metres too late and get a bit untidy under turn-in.  Still some learning to do with this whole close racing thing  :D
