:) Yes, please ban the Alfa other wise I will HAVE to take it! My mouse is magentised to it so if it's not there, I can't select it ;)

Only j/k - I'm probably going with a tank for a change!

What! No MINI?   :o

It's not suitable on this track with the big american cars, it will literally get beaten off the track with the way I know the yank tanks will need to be driven around here.

Oh dear, I'm really not 'getting' this track  :-\

I did a No Grip fun race here a couple of weeks back and I was slow, really slow, most guys (who'd done a league race there a few days before) were racing closely in the 1:37-1:40 range and there I was understeering round in my mini in the 1:43s.  :-[

So I've tried the Mustang and managed a 1:41.7.  Hmm, there must be some secret I haven't yet fathomed, and I do have to admit I'm not the quickest at learning new tracks.

Never mind, sod the pace, Oulton is a really good track, almost as much fun as Brands, it'll put a big grin on my face no matter where in the field I place.  :)

Now my G25 has turned up the question is do I have enough time to work out how to use it in clutch + H-shifter mode?! :o
I suspect I could be very inconsistent near the back as I learn the new wheel.

I'm still using auto-clutch when using the H-shifter, as constant use of the clutch on my floor makes the pedals move too much.  The carpet grippy thing's not that brilliant!

I have a 5 kilo weight on the floor in front of the pedals to stop slippage  ;D

Thing is, I consider it perhaps the most fun car in the game. On some tracks the Falcon can beat it though, and it can be fun to drive a tank every now and again.

Oh, and even in the Alfa I won't be winning and unlikely to be on the podium since I've not run that track before. Had some problems at Brands Hatch last time....or was the alfa not available there?

Yeah, I'm not "getting" this track either. After posting some fairly competitive midfield times the past two races I'm way off here. managing only 1.42.0 in falcon and a bit slower than that in an Alfa. What's the secret?  ???

Secret? Sounds pretty good to me.
I managed 1:46 in the Alfa (H-pattern + manual clutch virgin).

Did any of you have had any problems with a wheel?

I tried to do some practice laps and... no response from the wheel (=Logitec Momo).
Logged on to another server and no problem there..
Back to the Pratice server and again.. nothing  >:(

Maybe I doing something stupid but if anybody had the same problems and could solve it, I would really like to hear it...

Thanks.

Goto options -> controller settings, and turn off "reversed effect" and then turn it on again. All in game. Should work then I think.

Lovely track, great flow and some fun wheelyaction in T1 and even the hairpin :o.

Front tirewear will be low as the fronts will hardly touch the tarmac:

Oh, and in all the fun I did low 37's in the Falcon and low 38's in the Stang. Both can be faster but I was trying to wheely too hard  ;D

1:37s!!! Geesh, I thought I was going well by getting down to 1:41.6 in the Cortina. Ok it's on my brand new G25 with H-pattern and manual clutch, so it can probably go faster as I learn the new wheel more, but not 4 seconds faster!!!! Geeesh!

Oh yes, and a couple of wheelies.....

By default in on and off-line modes the car is auto-righted by the game which is why it's hard to topple over and when you do you always get back on your roof.

It's weird, you either get it or you don't and it seems to make a huge difference, some of us well above 1:40, but if you find the groove like Jeff well under it.  I reckon there must be something to be gained from better exit speeds from the long left-hander (T3) and the double-right hander 3/4 of the way round.

What's the secret of Jeff's setup, more controllable drifting?

Oh well, enjoy bouncing off the kerbs like Pseudo if you can't get it right, looks good  :D

Was just getting used to the track and cutting times down too.
Im gonna try out Sega Rally now instead  :D
Really glad i didn't put loads of praccy time in now though.

Sorry to hear about your "flipping" problems.

Downloaded the PS3 demo off the PSNetwork earlier. Nice graphics, but gameplay is a bit sucky. DIRT is much better for arcade fun rally type stuff, very addictive.

Was close to my PB in qually so was happy with that.

Had a good start and got into T1 safely. First few laps the gap between me and Madd didn't increase alot, but after that I was driving away slowly.
Car felt great for me the whole race, still did a mid 37 2 laps before the end. Had some nice two wheel moments but it never got too dangerous ;D.

Had a stonking start using V8 powah to haul myself up through the field but then it all went wrong when I put the car on its side in the hairpin. After that it was pretty hit or miss - I'm quite pleased to have learned Oulton but TBH the mixture of fast and slow wasn't much fun and led to at least one accident where I got past a Cortina on the straight, then put the car sideways into Druids (which is required to get the Falcon through there) only to have the Cortina run into me and send my off. :-\

Well done JR on yet another win for the Sharks. 8)

Some good fun battles then ;D

Disaster at the start, I forgot turn 1....too used to coming out the pits and into 2  ::) so ended up on the grass and 24th from 12 th.

Started making headway and had a good little tussle with another alpha...wasnt sure who it was as I hadn't turned tabs on by then. Made up three places when two cars ahead had a coming together and I started past them only for one of them to bump me and send me in a spin. Back of the pack again.

Then got it together for a good few laps and was tussling with Dave in his one wheeled Falcon for ages for 15th/16th...We passed each other a few times but I eventually managed to get a little daylight only to find S Holmes in another yank ahead. I duly ran into the back of him in the left hander (t3), after following Dave through a few times I didn't expect Steve to slow so much and tickled his rear and spun him. Sorry Steve. I bet that gave the lead pack a bit of a fright as they were approaching rapidly at the time.

Got going but decided to wait for Steve as I'd spun him, only to forget to brake into the hairpin whilst looking in my mirrors for him and bang...busted suspension.

Ah well, enjoyed it while it lasted.

Well done JR and podium lads.

:D Well, what can I say did a good quali and then realised looking at Jeff's time I was going to have to settle for second at best as his time was 0.4 faster than mine.
So decided to play it safe and be as consistent as I could, and tbh apart from when i missed my braking point by a country mile into the last corner I pretty much managed it  ::) .

Of course Pribeiro was there to pick up my 2nd place (he's making a habit of this  ;) ) and Backo was in close pursuit also.  :sweatdrop:
I eventually got better drive out of the hairpin and shot past him under braking for the chicane, it was a little hairy  but I was committed  and that yank tank doesn't like slowing down! :tank:
(have to check replay)
So it was just a case of holding him off for the remainder of the laps to finish 2nd, congrats to Jeff as well for a quick drive and to Pribeiro for 3rd.  :thumbup1:

PS all the lapped cars behaved impeccably on what is a difficult track for  passing cars.  :thumbup2:

Sorry Dave. I knew you'd be slower through there than me but I underestimated how much slower and didn't brake hard enough.  :-[

Well that was kinda successful for my first league race since getting the G25 to get 9th. I used manual clutch and H-pattern throughout and only badly cocked up twice. Once I spun and pressed the brake instead of the clutch so the car stalled and I spent a while working out which button I'd assigned to restart the engine and get it into the right gear and so forth. Second time I managed to press the right pedal and kept the engine running. Had a few scarey moments with not blipping on the down-shift causing the car to pump out it's ass in style, but overall seemed easy to catch slides with the G25 than the DFP, maybe I'm not going fast enough. :o 40 mins of practice made my lap times go down so I was obviously doing something right.

Had a few other scarey moments with a number of Falcons deciding they want to do impressions of whales across the track, but always managed to somehow avoid getting collected.

So next week the question is will the real Baracus please stand up  ;) as his title is under threat with Jeff closing in fast!

I think I was in that pack too .. it was good clean fighting until one person tapped you on the back ( and it wasn't me  ;) )

After that had a bog accident with a Legends Alfa I believe and my apologies to the Grey Alfa who had to go to the grass to evade me ..

I then enjoyed a lenghtly pit-stop (around 2 minutes to join the race at the very, very back) but enjoyed the track too much to give up !!

Thanks again for the good fights!

Thanks for the track/car combo choice ;)
I really enjoy it.
A huge congratulations for Jef, astonishing driving  :thumbup1:
And to Madd for the second place  :thumbup2:
I had a good start, the Falcon power helped me to jump to 3rd in first lap.
After that, i saw Ruskus and Madd-RIP running away (1 second per lap)  :scooter:
Meanwhile, i had to hold 3rd place from Mike attack, followed closely by Zacari and Backo.  :P
Then....during lap 17 (i guess), i saw Madd spining at last right corner  :shifty:
i thought....hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....and.....hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhm.....
overtook him and i was very happy indeed, but.....he got close to me and managed to
took back the second place (deserved, as you were faster Madd)
during all these thrill, i thought several times, that dude (Jeffrey) never spins? Yep, he didnt spun
one single time  ;D
Great behavior of the lapped guys  :notworthy:
Great race.
Cheers

So next week the question is will the real Baracus please stand up  ;) as his title is under threat with Jeff closing in fast!

Of course I'm not in the running at all....am I  ::)

Sorry Madd, didn't mean to cause any offence. Just looking at the standings, Jeff is the one making the late charge so it looks more likely if you look at current form. If the real Baracus comes back out his shell I'm sure he's sewn it up anyway, but it's definitely now a 3 horse gallop.

Yes indeed!  I gotta stop taking these cars i've never driven before and with no practice! :)

That was a cool race tho. Had some intense action sorting ourselves out the first couple of laps but spent most of my race chasing John K not making up much ground! Tyres went off from abou lap 13 which i'm totally not used to dealing with, and a went wide a few times. Struggled to get 1.40's so feck knows how you were getting 36's up front!!!

I'm trying very hard not to use forum-banned expletives, but...

I was using the WRONG DARN (thought ***'s might be a little dodgy on second thoughts) VERSION OF THE TRACK WITH A LOWER GRIP FACTOR!!!!!  >:(

I wondered why I was so slow, watched the top few lapping in qually and thought hold on, same lines, just later braking and quicker apex.  In the race I was consistent 1:42 and every time I pushed a little harder I ran wide off track. But I was DRIVING ON ICE.

Through the altbierbude auto updater I had several versions of Oulton, but one loaded up automatically with the server with no mismatches, dunno why as the grip factor is 1, compared to 1.16 for the 'real' one I downloaded this morning.  Also has the wrong circuit layout on the load screen, shows the full circuit with the extra section beyond the hairpin!

So the moral is ALWAYS DOWNLOAD THE TRACK FROM THIS FORUM AND OVERWRITE ANY EXISTING INSTALL  ;)

Damn shame, these were my preferred cars and my 'local' track, well the one I've watched the most racing at and even bought my girlfriend a driving experience at last year.  Know it like the back of my hand...oh well, my own stupidity.

Aaah, so that was you!
Although I think you could be more considerate about those driving in front of you, I spent the first half of the race looking in my mirrors watching you get that beast loose at sick angles  ;D ;D ;) and it was VERY distracting  :D
All in all I'm a very luck chap to have 6th here as there were faster guys behind, I can only assume they were caught up in battles that held them back.
Other than watching Baracus TV in my rear view mirror I had a pretty dull race all by my self  :'(
In the last 5 laps or so Syd came hurtling past like a rocket ship and the little Prost on my left shoulder said "let him go, otherwise we'll both fall back into the grip of those behind", and that was that.
Grats to podium, and that Ruskus dude is insanely fast :notworthy:

ah bugger...think i had the same track as Steve H then  :-\  I too couldnt figure out why i was upto 5 seconds a lap slower than people in the same car !  (no comments please Jeff  ;) ).

Admittedly i only started practising about 20 mins before the event and had never raced Oulton before but even so i'm normally upto speed enough to compete in the top 10, especially in my trusty Alfa.
I was getting constant mismatch errors...another sign or wrong track version and also got ct'd during qually once. I already had Oulton on my HD so assumed Srouk were using same version by same author but now appears not :-[ ...D'oh, lesson learnt !

Fantastic track layout and graphics, which is why i was even more bemused to find myself 21st on grid and unable to go faster than a 1:42.??.  I too watched someone upfront do a lap and thought 'he's doing nothing different to me in brake points and lines'  ???
Silly sausage  :-[

Those Falcons looked great being driven hard, congrats to podys  8)

A very frustrating end to a largely enjoyable race for me.  Qualified waaay up there considering the Lotus was the slowest piece of rubbish round there, started well and had good battles with BACKO and Mike throughout the race.

Then I managed to 'roll' the car in the hairpin (very very silly physics at play there ::)) and lost a place there to BACKO iirc.  Then a few laps from the end I rolled the car in the chicane, with the unfortunate result of catapulting over the armco and into the infield :o :o :( Unlike most normal tracks, there were no gaps in the barriers to rejoin, so I ended up trundling round the entire infield back to the pits where there was a gap.  That lap wasn't counted so I ended up having to do another lap aswell, which cost me a total of about 4 minutes >:( quite funny looking back on it, but damn annoying at the time!  Just for fun I rolled it on the last lap too

Shame as I'd have easily kept my top-6 place :( grats to the podium guys as always :)

My race started ok but I ruined it on the braking for the hairpin as you will see in this video of the race.
