Any pointers as per competitive endurance lap time in a lambo? (u know, ruskus's time + 1,8 secs)

I'm expecting pole to be a high 1:09, race pace will probably be low 1:11's, dipping into the high 1:10's.

So would a relative time for the GTC's be around 1.16 to 1.17 ?
This track is horrid btw. nearly fell asleep earlier  :P

Well I'm into the 1:16s (without ballast) so the fastest drivers will be 2s+ better than that...

Dave's right  - A high 13 is certainly possible in qual trim and no ballast. I like the track in some ways, as it poses quite a few technical challenges, although I think it will be hard to race - the straights are too short and seem to end with kinks, which makes a pass on the brakes tricky.

No practiceserver? And Zacari sounds right about the times. Without weight I did a 1:09, but with the extra load I'll be happy to do 1:10.

If GTC cars are going that quick, they are not going to me that far behind, possibly in front of me!

If GTC cars are that quick....they are using different GTC cars than me...I know I'm not the fastest, but can do 'competetive times', usually in qualli trim. Best I have been able to do in the 360 Modena is 1:17:1

I know 16's are possible...and maybe 14/15's for the aliens....But 1:13's.....about the same time as GT1's managed in the test race....eeek. Something feels wrong with that somehow.

Well, I can't imagine me bringing the Mosler or 350Z down to the 13's. Again, especially with the extra weight.

Title: Re: UKGTR Season 6 Upper Endurance - Adria - Sep 30
Post by: Paul968 on September 29, 2007, 09:31:36 PM +0100
I should add that I haven't had a 13 yet, but did get a 14.1 in the Morgan, and with a cleaner lap, a better driver than me and a more suitable car (I think the RS will be quicker) a 13 must be possible. Anyway, I won't be doing 13s either tomorrow given the 50kgs of extra weight I'll be carrying. :tank:

The fact is that on a tight, twisty and technical track there is more scope to make up time in the corners, whereas somewhere like Monza only has a handful and they are mostly about being precise. Valencia was another good place to make time in the corners.

Oh, and Zacari had a 1.10.5 for pole in the test race, and I'm sure he will be faster this time round.

Indeed, I'll be 30Kg's lighter and have Michelins this time  though I've not practiced yet :(

BTW, could everyone please practice the pit entry before the race as it's a tad tricky, doubly so if your garage turns out to be near the start of the pit lane. Don't want any spinners on the entry road!

The pit exit is also a bit of a pain - right on the racing line and with no chance to see who is coming from behind. I suggest people try to stay to the left of the pit exit when passing if they can.

I don't think you'll be too far off the pace Madd.

Looks like Paul is (once again) in a league of his own in the GTC's. 1:16.1 is my PB.

Can anyone confirm exactly where the start of the pit lane speed limit is? Is it at the lights just as you exit the track or round the twisty corners at the start of the garage section? Thats from memory so lights may be wrong place etc..  ;D

Good question. I suspect it's the white line just prior to first pit lane box, tried it few times in a mock up race yesterday, didn't get any penalty if driving too fast up to the point of that white line (not that there's much to gain prior to that, 1st gear stuff anyway  ;D )

BTW, at first I hated this track, now I find it.. rhytmical and that's a plus.

Passing traffic should be OK, except in last (3rd) sector.

But I still think the architect who designed it is obviously highly qualified to design electric go-kart indoor tracks.  ;D

Right. Now for a suggestion: would you gents kindly flash lights when comming out of the pits to let other drivers know you're rejoining S/F straight?

That micky mouse track is absolutely useless for mixed class racing IMO.

Spent 76 minutes simply trying to avoid other cars..either lapping, spinning or discoing....no fun at all tonight...may even give the next few a miss....wait for a good circuit.

Grats to winners and podiums

Bummer, Adam. You missed a corker - all the nay-sayers who didn't think the track would work can stick it up their exhaust pipes, I had an absolute corker, despite getting hit from behind twice and finishing off the podium. Early on I raced in a train of 5 cars, and then a thrilling last 10 minutes battling PRibeiro and Popabawa. ;D ;D ;D

Bring on the next two Adria races!

I think you've missed the point - there's meant to be constant traffic. I love these shorter circuits, a real test of nerve, situational awareness and multiclass experience.

I DONT BELIEVE IT!!!!!  Was having a blinding race, good qualy (5th) was holding 6th comfortably for first stint, made pit stop and came out 10th? dunno what happened there but then caught Truetom and Jure and was having a battle royale for 5 or 6 six laps. Jure spun out and truetom got me in traffic so was in a good 8th with 20 mins to go and with no warning my engine heath just started plumating with every gear change and died........******

Thats 2 races i was on for good points and somethings gone wrong.

Ah well at least people can see im getting on the pace at races now just gotta finnish them.

Congrats to winners.

The track wasn't as bad as I thought it would be for mixed class racing in terms of being dangerous. Lappees had to be very generous which they were all, thank you very much, but you must have been losing bucket loads of time, was the biggest issue.

Thought this race was going to be a disaster for me, especially after qually where I was two seconds off the pace and finding it hard to wrestle the Viper around this piddling little go-kart track. Race was very smooth and I managed to pass Mo, then sat behind Paul Richards for ages and ages before he had a tangle with a 350Z. After pit stops I had gained 2 places and managed to have enough speed to just keep Brian far enough away as he chased me down in the closing stages to get a bizarre 5th position. Consistancy once again king.  :smartass:

A couple of oddities about the track. Firstly the sunlight. What was with the sun flare being there the whole race? Also very odd engine health stuff. I opened vent fully for race and still my engine started on only 88%. So I basically took very good care of it for the whole race to make sure it didn't drop too far. Revving only into the red when I need a bit of extra speed.

Overall, I enjoyed racing at that track about as much as having my eyes poked out with a blunt spoon. Italy only has two decent circuits, Misano and Imola and quite frankly I prefer Enna to this place. :censored:

Well done to Carl and the other podium places in GT1 and also to Madd-Rip and the other podiums places in GTC class. All the GTC boys were fabulous tonight and I had another very clean race.  :notworthy:

jeesh...i dont like that track  :(

Qual was getting better each time i went around, getting upto 1:16.5 (3rd?) then got disco'd out  :(  Re-joined with lost times and grabbed a 17.01 to put myself ahead of pops and DG.

Race started disastrously when i got all fingers and thumbs and dropped the car into neutral instead of releasing the pit limiter on the s/f straight :o :-[  DG and Pops duly shot right past.  :'(
Then had a cracking fight with Pops, Pribeiro and DG for about half an hour all of us trading places and some fun side by side stuff.
Unfortunately then the GT1's started coming around and whilst chasing Prib hard i let a GT1 through at that nasty kink corner where he then hit the anchors hard to avoid rear ending PR and i went into a spin slamming my own brakes on to miss him  :'( and Pops got back past  ::)
Was still enjoying the race up until i pitted....then i came out about 40 seconds behind the next car and a whole lap down to Paul968 and Prib  >:(...i was not a happy bunny, even though i guessed early on that Pops and DG were running fuel to the end of the race, i didnt expect to lose that much time to all other GTC cars  :'(
Kinda lost interest then as no way of making up 40 seconds here with 35 mins to go and spent rest of race diving out the way of lapping GT1's.
Had a comedy moment when i got past Prib who was a lap in front but was pitting so he kindly flashed me to stay in front whilst i flashed him back to say 'no after you!'...what PR prob didnt realise was i getting blue flag final warnings unless i let him past !  :o Thankfully he dropped right back and i sped off before the stewards felt my coller  :P
Well done to Podium guys and good driving by the GT1 boys...that must have been a mare to avoid us GTC's having our own battles on this tight track  8)

Surprisingly, I quite enjoyed the track :).

Nice quali (new pb for a night race ;)) and all looked set for a ding dong battle with Paul and RIP. That was until some kind soul decided to spin a bit, slide up the inside a lot and barge us off track, thankfully only the once, in his GT1 car. That put an end to any fun and I cruised around 20 sec behind lead battle and 20 ahead of Pops behind me. Real shame :-[

I only had the one problem being lapped and gotta say GT1 boys were great considering the difficulties . Congrats to RIP, Paul and Carl.

Yet again 3rd time in a row come qualifying session of upper endurance my connection goes mental. I was sitting 4th at the time and on a quicker lap by a few tenths. A few minutes to go and again I lost connection. This is more than a coincidence, but what is wrong baffles me.

Managed to get back in with a couple of minutes qualifying left. Had a couple of laps and made a big mistake on one, and lost control trying way too hard on the other. I started last!

Did not know how to approach the start with all the GTC cars ahead. I thought since we are racing for position I'm entitled to "overtake" and not look for easy place to lap.

I got past a few cars and was taken back a bit with a lot of door banging. Came through to find Jure in the Lambo had decided to join me at the back. Did a sneaky move when he went one side of a GTC car and I jumped them both on the other.

Managed to climb up to 6th place from last and was catching Simon for 5th. Would have needed a few more laps to get close but getting past is impossible unless he was to make mistake.

Had a few laps chasing TT and a few more him chasing me, other than that nothing of note to report.

Can't say driving 80 minutes on the track has made me feel any different, it's horrible to drive, horrible to lap/overtake and that pit lane is an accident waiting to happen.

Disaster for me at the start, my DFP decided to die in the first practice session, no FF at all. I tried rebooting and everything you'd expect but no luck. I thought I might as well try it with no FF and it was OK, then it came back for a lap in qually, I grabbed 4th on the grid only to get disconnected! Grrr....

It was an exciting race but a pretty poor drive by me, Dave & Pribiero were all over me at the end and I'm just happy I just held on for 4th with no Force Feedback.

Plenty of contact but that was inevitable really, glad to see the back of Adria forever if that's how it works out!

Yeah...its ok in that sense, but I feel this particular track is too short and pretty technical for us 'lesser mortals' (ok ME :D) I have enough trouble concentrating on getting round the place with the short hops between turns...when you throw faster cars in too, braking zones are missed, you generally end up taking the turns too wide, and most of the time is spent looking behind to see who's coming up next...Basically it doesn't leave enough time to be able to make the right decisions and (in my case) end up off the track or holding someone up....I don't find that fun personally, just hard work, I would much rather be able to concentrate more on my own drive than constantly be having to do things 'differently' to accomodate others.

It's just odd Simon as it happens in upper endurance qualification session only. Before that everything is fine, then tonight I got back in before race and everything was fine afterwards.

My whole season in upper endurance has been ruined and missed the first two races due to very late disconnections and tonight I started last instead of a potential probably 3rd

:sweatdrop: I'm knackered! Managed a pb in quali but was surprised to see Paul behind me , especially after scaring the S*** out of me with his projected time of a low 14. I've been trying for the whole weekend to find a setup I can work with and finally made one at literally the eleventh hour!

It looked like it was going to be a right doozy with Paul and SBG, until a certain 'vette driver proceeded to nearly take us all out on repeated occasions, unbelievable tbh and pretty much spoilt a good scrap, I managed to get a small gap to Paul and slowly increased it, by the time we were being lapped it seemed as if he was getting lapped in all the wrong places as the gap slowly increased. :thumbup2:

After he made his stop I just tried to keep going steadily until I needed to pit, unfortunately when I came out of the pits there he was....bugger  it got a bit messy at T1  but I pushed as hard as I could to stay with him until my tyres warmed up, eventually getting a better drive out of the last corner and getting a tow down the straight to pass him at T1, and from there on I could keep the gap at about 1.5 to 2.5 seconds until the end to Win!!  (that extra weight REALLY hurts!!)

A bit of a mixed feeling with this track, I tried letting the GT1's past either on the straights or taking a wider line into T1, the hairpin or the corner before the pits, this seemed to lose me least time and tbh anywhere else is too risky, so I'm sorry to anyone who was behind me but I'm not risking ruining my race when there's a straight after the corner  :nono:

Grats to the GT1 podium btw.

PS at least the Cups will be more sedate!

Was surprised to take 4th place in qually, only a few tenths behind pole, considerring I had +35kg and the guys infront either nothing or negative value.

The beginning of the race was very steady for me. Was following FreQ closely and could see CJ and Zacari in the distance infront. I couldn't attack FreQ so I had to settle to keep close. Which I managed untill the pitstops. He kept asking if he should let me past, but I kept denying :D.
With 45 minutes to go I went in, as my front softs were wearing faster than expected :o. I changed to mediums allround and they felt much, MUCH better. Came out 1 lap behind CJ and Zacari. At that point I was quicker than them, as they didn't pit yet.
Zacari went in and I was behind CJ, still lap down. He let me unlap myself, which was very fair, and I slowly drove away. Unfortunatly CJ then had a disco while being in first place :'(.
During the race both Paul R. and Jure let me past for position. Very generous, but not necessary as we were in a fight for a place :).

My engine health was very low, around 69% with 15 minutes to go, so I had to shortshift and lift off hard, which was very tyring.

I quite liked this track. Awefull for hotlapping, but an actionpacked race. And the GTC boys were very good and aware. Must be very hard to keep being aware of what's going on around, while fighting for yourself.

Grats Carl for the win.

I am very worried about Spa, driving with 60kg, while CJ will have -20kg :o. He'll lap the whole field ;D

- Use autoclutch (lame ;D)
- lift off when upshifting
- easy on the blipping
- don't enginebrake too much
- never let the car redline on the straights
- keep engine temp around 90C

What hard work that was :o 66 laps :sweatdrop:

Qualifying was worse than I'd hoped, really thought I'd get pole but couldn't get below 1:10 however hard I tried.  Having said that, the sun really didn't help!  CJ was the only one sub- 1:10 and Joss was 2nd, myself in 3rd only a tenth behind CJ!

The race was really good.  Sat behind Joss for the first few laps with no chance to get passed, in the end we caught some backmarkers in a really awkward place and I got passed down the s/f straight.  After that I went in persuit of CJ, though I just wasn't quite fast enough!  Getting along-side once was as close as I got, though we touched down the s/f straight at one point too when passing traffic.  For about 40 laps we were no more than a second or two apart :o 8)

In the end I pitted with 25 mins left, I only lost about 40 seconds but it was still far too long for what I needed.  CJ then disco'd so our battle didn't get to end the way it should've :( after that I ended up cruising round to the finish looking after my tyres and trying not to make any silly mistakes ;D

Grats to Jeff and Joss and all the other finishers, and CJ for a really good battle :) and I'm not sure how Simon managed to get the Viper home 5th :o

A big thanks to the GTC guys too, no real issues at all which is amazing considering the track.  Apologies to Paul968 though, I got a big fish-tail slide under power out of the hairpin, trying to keep out of the way and I managed to clip your front end :( sorry 'bout that.

Got so annoyed by my performance in this race I still can't go to sleep.  ;D

Qualied poorly in 9th (race setup minus fuel, med-med, hence no wonder, still have no idea why I didn't load Q setup I built this afternoon...).

Spun TT out in T1 of the first racing lap. No comment.  :-[  :-\

Fought with Brian at the back (while we were both recovering places) but he eventually got by. Had same dilemma as he did, "Am I racing this guys or what? Passing on braking or throttle...hmmm hmmm"  ??? ::) ;D

After few laps of "so... what's up with that front tyre temps?" I realised there's a huge front grip problem (balance problem to be precise) which effectively led to cutting (at same sector) like... every few laps (and fighting it had even worse results, lifting off got me in a position where car wanted to spin so I simply did it on purpose every time front end stepped out, too late to correct the bloody thing. Oh well, at least I knew I wasn't gaining time, laps done properly were much faster  ;D ).

Anyway,  seeing I've climbed to P3 prior to pit stop and realising I've lost too much time at the beginning of the race I've decided NOT to change tyres during my pitstop (started with 100L with predicted 46 laps and yeah Rusky, I know we were racing for position but it seemed stupid to position myself right in between yourself and other two aliens that just got by, felt better to let you by too and have fun with them plus I didn't want you driving behind me, was just prior to pitting. ;) )  there wasn't any other way to gain back some 25 seconds lost in early stages (and later on, had one... semi-spin and a full one :D ).

So in the pits we go, lost some 7-8 seconds keyboarding like crazy to not change tyres and not repair the damage, sat there for some 28-29 seconds then went out.

And voila, plan worked, came out 8th (running 11t prior to "pit stops window") but gamble didn't help much, tyres were... let's say two thirds worn already, tried to hold back Gazza and TT for a while (great battle, a bit of touching here and there, but lots of fun), then disaster struck (remember the cutting thing from above? Well... this is what happens if one gets stubborn and sticks to the groove no matter what, at the time I was determined no cutting would occur while in close combat, was feeling guilty enough already.).

And so I've visited the armco.  :-\

Parts flying, FL tyre went kaput.

Crawled back to the pits (with lights on, was hoping it'll warn others I'm in trouble. Giggle. After seeing the replay I've noticed lights were not the thing that caught the eye, sparks flew everywhere while that front splitter tried to... plow or something  ;D).

Pit stop number two, changed tyres, repaired everything (it was clear any good result was down the drain so I figured at least I can see how fast I could go in... normal trim. You know, that rare experience when one drives a car with everything that belongs on a car actually being there).

Disgusted really, ruined TTs race and, for reasons unknown, not checking track temperature before the race start and pressurising tyres accordingly led to actions I despise. Moronic.  :-[

Interesting thing.  :)  Don't worry, Jure, I managed to make enough mistakes on my own.  ;D It was interesting to start again in the middle of the GTC guys, though.  :D
This is hard work, though when the duels happen they tend to be short and fierce.  ;)  Short in the sense of an actual battle, not sitting behind waiting for mistakes. Had some action with Brian, but he was too fast to hold and this circuit allows the back car to plan ahead two or  three corners and eventualy you can come beside the front car.  :)  I was catching Shark before the pitting, was gaining 1 sec/lap but again he got loads of time while pitting.  ???
Jure pitted at the last moment and got in front of Gazza and me, we had a good scrap until Jure botched it  ::)  and Gazza seemed to lost his pace even with no traffic between us. Now I see it was the engine.  :-\  Good going, Gazza, your pace goes up every race.  8)  In the last minutes I was keeping the same pace as Brian and I was hoping we're gaining on Shark, but the race was too short.  ;)  In the end the "moving chicane" Shark was faster then me, a veteran on this track with one race under my belt.  :clown: Well done.  :)
GTC drivers were ... above everything I saw so far. Even managed to kick Pops along the way but it wasn't enough so he could continue.  :P  Sorry Pops, I was in a crowd of GTs trying to brake on time not to hit the front car fighting for position. Also, MJ managed to visit his sand castles while I was going by - hope it wasn't my fault.  :(
There was both scary and comical moment when close racing in a pack with Gazza and Jure. There was a GTC car (SBG? - sorry don't remember  :-[ ) and we fell all over him, left, right, everywhere.  ;D  If I was him I'd be drawing brown lines on my underware. Well he managed good enough but I bet it left him

There are probably other things but I gotta work now.  :P

TT

Sounds like a good race. I was enjoying the track I have to say, but had to quit when my controller problems came back to haunt me early on  :(

Grats to the podiums 8)

That was pretty hard work! For whatever reason I couldn't get the Morgan to perform in the way it did offline, even taking the 50kg of ballast into consideration, and Madd-RIP managed to take pole with a lap a 10th quicker. After the start Madd, myself and SBG were in a good little scrap for a few laps before it was broken up by the extremely erratic Corvette of Pedro, who seemed to be struggling to keep the car on the road at almost every corner. SBG dropped back after contact with Pedro, which left me chasing Madd, and he started to edge out a gap. I wasn't too concerned though, as I was full of fuel from the start and assumed he would need to add a decent amount at the pitstop. I pitted around half distance, as my soft/soft tyres were badly worn by then (I swapped to soft/soft because of the low temps), and changed to med/meds hoping for better tyre life. I came out behind a gaggle of GTCs who hadn't pitted, and spent the best part of 20 minutes struggling to find a way past. Pribero especially was driving a very wide 360, and the heavy Morgan had no real chance to pass without a mistake. All this meant that any advantage I might have gained over Madd in the pitstops was leaking away and sure enough, Madd came out of the pits just as I went past. The 4 seconds or so lead was never going to be enough, and he closed in quite quickly. In the end I was helpless to prevent a perfect pass into T1 from the Mosler with about 15 minutes to go - nice driving  8). I spent the last part trying everything to put some pressure on, but I couldn't get the power down out of all the slow corners and had to settle for 13th and 2nd in GTC. I was completely knackered by the end, as the Morgan moved around a lot in all the corners and needed plenty of driver input to keep it pointed in the right direction. Great fun from the driving perspective, a touch frustrating for racing though.

Although I like the challenge of driving the track, I think I was right about the problems with racing on it. Without a faster car in a straight line it is almost impossible to pass. T2 might be doable because it follows T1, which is tricky and drivers make more mistakes there, but the kink before entry makes this much more risky. Several times in the race I was a lot faster than a GTC ahead, but getting past was pretty much a case of waiting for a mistake or a pitstop. Letting the GT1s past was 'challenging' to say the least, especially into the right kink at T4, but the GT1s were generally very considerate.

Congrats to Zacari and to Madd-RIP, who thoroughly deserved the win - great drive  :thumbup1: Hard luck to SBG, who should have been in the thick of the battle with Madd and showed again that he's a force to be reckoned with this season - Go Kerbies!

PS No problem for the tap Zacari. At the time I was slightly miffed as I could only assume that you didn't know I was there and tried to take the line I was on, but watching the replay showed this wasn't the case, just as you explained.  :)

Tough race for me. Quailifed ok bit down on PB but think due to low temps. Race started ok. Had a bit of scare on the pace lap with Gazza's warp as he jumped behind me and Backo. Backo got by early on and I was running very heavy and the Meds were struggling to come up to good temperature. Was being chased by Simon for ages and the gap varied on how we came up the the GTCs. Had a bit of a scare with a Corvette when he nearly took me out at T1 but luckily slid right through acroos the front of my car as I turned in. I then tangled with a GTC and lost 28 seconds and 4 places. Shortly after I was tagged from behind at the hairpin which lost me a bit more time and this put me into the clutches of the leaders. I then lost more time throwing myself off the track to let them by in the 3rd sector. I then had a quick stop only to come out in front of the leaders again. Was about 15 seconds behind TT after all the pitstops rotated but couldn't lower the gap before the finish. Had an idea that Claus was going to disco. Me and Jure crashed into a warp of his car on the straight after the first corner and I also saw it stationary at another spot before he finally discoed properly. Unlucky mate.  With gazza's engine as well I finished 8th. Congrats to the winners and podiums and thanks to all the GTCs on this very hard to pass track.

Sorry Paul...that was me :-[  I had moved over to let you pass approaching the hairpin and ended up braking a little late through being off my usual line and locked up causing me to slide into you.

No need to apologise mate. These things are always going to happen on a track like this. Didn't cost too much time as I was pointing in the right direction!  ;D I lost most time earlier in the race when I didn't help myself by spinning again as I was recovering  ::)

Thanks for your comments TT, was really fun. This was probably my fav race so far in terms of being able to actually race close to you guys, this is why i joined the league to be able to race close and fair unlike public servers.  I think ive been on the pace of some of the faster guys here in the last 2 races, just need to end this trend of not finishing them.  Quite looking forward to the sprint.

What happened to the 1.09s I caught you doing earlier in the day Gazza? i had noticed you had been getting quicker over recent races. I think you are a bit like I was and still am. Need the races under your belt to understand what is going on.  I feel i'm getting better every race and I'm sure the same can be said for most people.

Thanks Brian, i never seem to be able to do the times i do in practice, i guess the pressures on when your doing it for real. The low temps didnt help though and im still struggling to make correct tyre choices and pitt stops. My drivings definately improving but saying that i have only finished one race this season.

You will learn soon enough, not sure i should give tips and end up further down the pecking order though! You should not have reliability issues with the lambo. It takes some effort to blow it up.

Great race for atleast 70mins ::)
Then pitted with a decisive lead and looked to come out with a 10s lead, but when I got out no-one was there, got the HUD brought up and the gap to next car was just increasing so I knew within half a lap I would get a Connection lost message, pretty annoying but well, been almost a year since I had my last one so maybe was about time.
Great driving by the GTCs, always seemed to catch them in packs of 2-3 or more car so could be a bit tricky to find way past sometimes
