Please tell me that when you say "NASCAR" you don't mean it's an oval track...

Hehe, it just so happens this is one of two non-oval nascar tracks.

Good, I don't think I could stand a 30 minute race around an oval!

FYI...I am aware that the events for the next 2 race are for some reason not appearing in the calendar and I have called technical support (Gizmo) in to help resolve the problems.

There are more than two non oval tracks in NASCAR. Pocono springs to mind ;)

I'm talking about real road courses, not flat triangle shaped "ovals".

You won't need a map, it's a fairly straightforward track.   ;)

But it is a good track for racing, very wide, a variety of lines you can take, so this could well make for one of the most satisfying tracks of all for close racing, even if it's not very interesting for qualifying/hotlapping.  From a season full of excellent car and track choices (respect to Shark for his research), I think (and hope) this could be a standout.   ;D

Well as long as it's more interesting than Buenos Aires. ;)
I'll be driving the 906 again, since I can't control the others.

Tibs - Top tip. Go to Nogrip. Go to GTL Hotlaps. Select track your interested in and your car/class choice. Look at the results your selection throws up. Choose one. Download and watch replay. In one foul swoop you get a) Realistic indicator of expected (target) lap time. b) Get to watch someone who knows the circuit drive the best line and finally c) If you use the follow cam you get a good idea of the circuit layout.

I suppose I need to put the file in the replays folder? ???

Hello all,

This is my first post.  Found my way here after a bit of nudging by Bill Thomas  :)

Have raced GTL with GBGTL for about 1½-2 years, but we presently have a bit of a lull, so I'm getting withdrawals...

Would like to participate in this race if possible; driving a Porsche 906.  As far as I can determine, there's a skinpack I need to download ?

Lobby and race name will be 'Coyote'.

Cheers,
Erling

Yes, see downloads links for skin pack and this race requires a 3rd party track download too. All relevant information is in the first race post with links to the places you need.

Good luck and hope to see you there.

Thanks guys,

Have the track already, as I've been trying to help Bill with a gearing problem.

Forgot to check if the fuel capacity is enough for the full race, or if a pitstop is required.  If one is required; are there any rules about what must be done - i.e. tyre change mandatory etc. ?

Also, I take it the times specified are GMT ?

Will the server be up before Thursday ? (Would like to check connection before it's 'for real')

Sorry about all the questions; just trying not to screw up my first outing with you guys too much...  ;D

Cheers,
Erling

UK time which is current GMT. The summer seems a long way away. ;)

The practice server should be up at the moment - password can be found via the "usual practice password" link in the box near the top. It'll be down this evening for the UKGTR race and then up again until the race on Thursday.

reversed effects must be on. Not sure about the specialized effects, I think MOMO will suffice. You can still tweak settings anyway.

Low 19s in the Pantera, it really is fun.  Like Jeff's Vette though, what's it gonna be like later on - have a nice balance through the fast uphill sweeping 4th gear section, but that's all going to go off hilariously as the rears wear.   ;D

Typical lap after some practice is in the 1:20 - 1:21 bracket.  Fastest yet is 1:19.89. Car is 906.

1:20 in the 906 for me so far and a 1:21 in the 911.

I am really struggling with the Pantera, just cant put a string of laps together without it spitting me off somewhere.
The Vette is a bit more stable but that also has a mind of its own and likes squirming about beneath me.

Great track though  8)

I'm getting fairly consistant 1:19/20s in the Panterrifying. I've mostly been doing actual races against AI to prepare for the traffic on this track.

turn one is going to be very hectic if ANYONE makes a mistake :(

That chicane will be pretty hairy too if someone spins it right in the middle of the track, because there's almost nowhere to go and when you come in a optimal speed any quick movments will send you into the sand.

I don't think the tyres will be to much of a problem, as I don't find I'm putting alot of pressure on them due to the inclined turns, which suits these cars well.

1.19.5 best so far in the Capri. Panthera seems so fast but, but I can't get any consistent runs with it. I spin it every second lap or so, mostly trying to get through the esses with throttle on throughout.

Woohoo, did a 1:18.725 online in practice with the Vette. Had to turn caster right up and lower coast to 20%. Still some more tweaks which should make it handle better, so I hope a low 1:18 in qually thursday.

It's an awesome car that Vette, wish more people would give it a shot.

Just spent half an hour trying to do anything with that crate of yours!!? ;D

The '69 and '76 is authorized. the '65 is GTC65 and a slower class.

The ones you can pick are the green car and the red American styled Vette.

No wonder you only did a 1:27, you were driving the wrong class  ;D.

Try the Green Machine  8)

I've done 10 laps of pracci and its gotta be the Vette. Makes the Pantera look dull  ;) Reminds me so much of a race we did around here in Escort mod, for GTR1 I think. Bonkers.

Nowhere near the pace and unlikely to last 10 laps but why fade away? Care to share your setup JR? Its can't make it any worse.

The Corvette is a car aimed for races, the understeer will make it feel horrible during hotlapping, but once you can unleash the power and blast past other cars, the fun begins ;D

i tried the 76 Vette late last night but could only do 1:20/21's in it as i tippy-toe around corners too much in it.

Think i'll stick to the trusty German steed, the 906, as i'm doing 1:19's in that baby. Not managed to break into the 18's yet  :-[

Not sure yet whether I can make this one. I have to change the Team Shark web hosting asap due to the current web host being utterly useless and disabling the website for 36 hours due to me using the backup feature twice (god forbid). Have done no practice here but I'm pretty familiar with the track cause I've played it quite a lot over the years so I might just do my usual turn up at the last minute and cobble a setup together. :)

Sorry folks my internet connection has been crap all day.  :taz: OK in driving up till formal event - even managed a new PB, ;D although there was an occasional queston as to who had a slight lag.

In qualifying it seem terrible and I escaped and sat in the pits Alex v V opposite had a ping of 4000 odd so did the guy next to him.  So I questioned and got the reply Yes I was lagging badly so I quit.  :cursing:

A pity as I like that type of track, though I have to brake early to avoid running wide/off into the kitty litter, there are long flatout sections which give great satisfaction to be able to drive through flat in 5th.

Race over before it began unfortunately.

Got a light tap on the right rear under braking for T1, which sent me on a wider line through the corner and into contact with Ginster's Corvette.  Lost control of the car at this and careened off track into barrier.  Apologies to those collected in the process or otherwise involved in the chain reaction.  Car damaged; pulling right and not willing to turn either way anymore, so left as I didn't feel like fighting it over the next 29 laps, and risk more incidents due to it's less predictable handling.

Regards,
Erling

grrr bloody stupid buggy game  >:(

was having a cracking race until a couple of crazy cut warnings were given against me on lap 22 of 30  :(
Had been racing in 8th or 9th the entire race having a couple of good fights along the way but it all went to waste when i got the stop and go.  :'(
Did my penalty only to be given a speeding penalty on way out. Now dropped to 12th. Went around again angrily, skidded into pitlane to do my 2nd stop and go only to be given a bloody 3rd one as i left the pit box again!...and that was with the limiter on  :o
By now was down in 15th with only 3 laps remaining. Was hot and bothered so then i span off and promptly quit in frustration. :'(
Shame, as i like the track and was really enjoying the race. Good to see a lot cleaner racing tonight too, everyone was great through the first lap corners 8)
My only complaint is everyone using qually as a bloody chat room !  zip-it.com  ;D

Congrats to all that finished well. 8)

I realized that if you change gear, the speed will increase even with the limiter on. So when I changed between 2nd and 3rd up and down, I got it up to at least 80 with limter on.

I was struggling in Quali as I realized my throttle and brakes weren't able to reach full. I had to fool around with the sensitivity and finally settled on 98% so my brakes could get full throttle.

The Accellerator was very very touchy, causing me to spend 15 minutes of quali getting used to it.
Luckily I fired out a 1:19 on the last lap bringing me from 21st to 10th.

Race started al ittle hectic as I saw someone swirve into someone else right before T1. I hugged the inside praying not to spin on the white tarmac and came out in 7th or 8th. Held my own pretty good only losing one place by the finish line, however I put a wee bit to much pressure onto the gas comming out of T1 causing me to spin into pit exit lane.

Dropped back to 21st, and had to start the climb. Made my way into 15th following Tinman for a while, got passed him, but then lost it comming into the second last lap.

Fought back to get up to him again and lost it one more time, causing my chin spoiler to be ripped from the frame. I went a few laps seeing how the car was, and decided after 2 to bite my tounge and pit in. Dropped back to 22nd, and left with a stop go. Came back in, left with another stop go, comming around to pit in for my second stop go, I slid and hit the same barrier that tore my front spoiler off. This time I destroyed my front right tyre, causing me to drag myself to pits, and because I came in on a stop go I couldn't repair, so I just retired the race, and watched Will and Oily battle it out.

I really liked that track, and I was having the pace to keep on top during the past two weeks, it's a shame I smashed out, unable to get points for the first time this season :(

My best race even with this sim. Not the 12th, but my speed and consistency. Only spun one time, in that 1st turn where the Capri seem to be a bit loose on exit. Stupid mistake, as I had full control over the car all the other times in this turn.

Even managed to fight with some decent drivers, and was only lapped by three cars, the first two when I tried to get back out after my spin.

I think I could take advantage of my NASCAR history from this track today.

I was doing alright for a while, then I had a series of stupid accidents (I missed the braking zones and when straight across the grass).
The steering was damaged from hitting Ossie at the start of the race (Sorry Ossie!), so I pitted to have it fixed. On the way out I was given a stop/go for speeding in the pit, which I expected since I went in way too fast.

Then on the lap afterwards I got another stop/go for cutting the track, when I'd lost control of the car.

At least I finished!

Not a great race for me position wise, but had some great driving along the way.
I think on T1 of lap 1 or 2, someone swerved right across me in a 906 and i had no time to brake, and t-boned the 906, which slowed me down, but luckily not much damage.
The setup i had was not quite right, so i lost it on a couple of corners after gearing down too early corner entry later in the race.
But, had a good battle with Oily - swapping positions along the way, untill i lost it a few laps from the end.
Anyway, a good race and enjoyable, i like this track - good driving from all  O0

That was a good race for me. Managed to qualifying 11th whilst still learning the extremes of the track and car combo and with some last second tweaks to the setup my final race setup was even better than qually, being both reasonably stable and still quite quick. Was a second faster in race to qually and had some good battles with some Capris (Madd-RIP, Priberio, Dan Minton) and then a good battle with Jeff's evil Vette. Eventually I got the better of the old fox and cruised off for 4th position as a couple of others ahead had some accidents.

Were definately some scarey moments, like going side by side with Jeff's Vette through the up-hill esses and arriving at a reversing/rolling backwards 906 recovering from a spin, but I fortunately managed to escape all moments unscathed.

It's a good track/car combo, although I was a little worried about people driving sensibly given the high speeds involved and the different braking it seemed to go well from where I was anyway especially with the great turnout.

Well done to Mr 906, Baracus, on the win in that little old Porsche. You must have been doing something special to beat the fast cars here.

Another cracking race, with most going on behind me ;D.

I had a good start and went from 9th to 5th or something. I had the Pantera of Steve infront and Madd behind me in his Capri. I couldn't catch the Pantera and could just keep the gap between me and Madd.
When Dan overtook Madd he was right behind me immediatly. That was after a few laps, so I already had worn tyres I think :P. He did a nice move on the (stop flirting  ;D) on the mian straight and took my place.
Wasn't long before Simon was attacking me with his Pantera. I could just use that extra bit of topspeed to give me a breather. In the second to last corner there was a spun Pantera and I could JUST steer on his inside, while Simon had to go around the outside. Very tricky situation but it gave me some breathigspace.
Lap later a Pantera spun and I thought I could overtake him on the left, but he steered that way, so I went right but he then went that way and luckily for me there was enough room but it was close again.
Two laps later Simon attacked me through the Esses, with him being on the outside (right). We were really side by side when there was a 906 backing up in the Esses after his spin  :o. We could just avoid it there, especially Simon who needed new pants after that.
Later he tried the same thing in the Esses, but this time he held it and outbraked me in the chicane. Very good move, brave  ;D.

I didn't get much rest after that, as Madd was right behind me again, pushing me to the limit. But he went off very quick, looked like full speed so I have no idea what happened, all I knew is that it looked scary in me mirrors.

Then I saw an eppic battle behind me between Steve and Marc. A 911 and a Pantera fighting eachtother lap after lap. The were probably much quicker than me, so I had to give it all and keep aiming for the straights to get my advantage.
Big thumbs up to those guys as the drove extremely fair and there was absolutely no contact eventhough I was crawling through the corners. Well done guys  :thumbup2:.
That battle lasted for maybe 10 laps and I didn't expect to keep them behind. So I was very pleased with finishing 5th.

Grats Bara and again very well driven everyone

Got a light tap on the right rear under braking for T1, which sent me on a wider line through the corner and into contact with Ginster's Corvette.  Lost control of the car at this and careened off track into barrier.

Tough break Erling, I was looking forward to racing you. Maybe next time. Gotta say my strategy of crawling around outside of T1 to avoid trouble was always going to leave me exposed to anybody pushed wide. Won't be doing that again :). Then again would a slow moving Corvette get clattered into T1?

After that I was down in 20th but great fun coming back, a bit, through field. Stand out battles with Morten and Andy Poodle (really unlucky that you couldn't see anything so close to me, no chance to avoid the spinner :'() All done with TinMan lurking in the background for first 20 laps. Then he mounted his challenge. Twas great fun holding you off for a bit but you sized me up and took me very smoothly, congrats. Thx to those I met along the way for restoring my faith in GTL, until the next race at least ;)

Thanks to JR for the rather specialised setup. Never seen anything like that before but wouldn't have been anywhere without it. Ta. Can't wait for the next opportunity to crash a yank tank :)

Sorry but I gotta have a moan. Less chat in quali next time please ;)

Really enjoyed that...suprised myself with my qualy time as id done no practice.  Start was terrible and sorry to all who had to brake to avoid me just couldnt stop wheel spinning!! ::)
Had great fun battling back through with some great racing with with Jeff, Simon Holmes ,shark and Madd  :)...By that time Bara and Keith were long gone.
Grats to Baracus on the win.
Cheers

Martin i'm with you mate, that Capri was laggy as hell, it came from nowhere on the straight befoe the chicane and put me on my flippin roof. Not impressed! I make enough mistakes of my own without that kind of madness and that's second time around. Can I submit an incident report against dodgy broadband providers!?  >:(

Had a great time battling with Will, just bringing it home and chatting with the Prodigy guys on Teamspeak, Tony and Jebb put in blinders for qually so a shame we didn't grab some more points...next time!

Grats podium, and Mr. Minton please share your Capri secrets lol, you were flying.

Roll on Misano...  ;D

Really glad you enjoyed it ;D. Wish more people would try the yanktanks ;D. Setup was very extreme and probably way over the top than most people would try, but it is the way for me to make the Vette driveable and somwhat competitive.

Think the track suited me... not usually as quick in these understeerry cars on the more twisty tracks, saying that been going a lot better since turning off auto clutch and blipping on down changes maybe try that. ;)

The steering was damaged from hitting Ossie at the start of the race (Sorry Ossie!)

Not to worry Tib, as much my fault because the back end of my car decided to take over my front end at the start for some reason.  Thanks for waiting by the way but my car stalled and would not restart for a while and when it did the back end was all over the place and not to ruin others races I decided to quit.  Better luck next time.

Grats to all that finished especially the super quick and the podium finishers.  See you all again soon.

Was a good race. I didn't think the 906 was going to be that good on a Nascar track against any brute power, but she did well! I was just driving like 30 qualiifying laps in a row to stay ahead :D  For once I had my head in the right frame of mind and I was just relaxed the whole way and didn't make any mistakes.

Really nice track which comes to you if you don't push too hard. In the 906 it was all about getting a nice clean power down on the exits, at the cost of lifting to make sure you catch the apexes.

Good clean driving from what I saw and a great turn out. Hope everyones broadband works OK next week!

Yep, that was a really good race all round, think everyone drove well, just sounds like issues with pitting, maybe the pit lane speed limit is applied outside the white lines, judging by all these stop/gos.

I made a nice start from 6th to 3rd by the first corner, and if it hadn't been for that darn 2nd last turn I'd have been able to stay much closer to the leaders.  I was fast round all the track but just couldn't get that left hander right, I was having to tippy-toe round it slowly every lap, so slow I caught out [Poodle]Andy as he nudged into the back of me (only a tap and no problem)  the first time we were close together - my fault, I was running so far under racing pace through there, losing about 0.5s per lap to all around me, frustrating when the rest of the lap I could match or even make the odd tenth against the other cars.

Lost 3rd to Andy, then started getting annoyed by that corner, tried different lines, braking at different points, never got quicker, and finally spun it, which was scary for me waiting to be hit, but even worse for Jeff (and Shark I think) who had to avoid me.

Had a bad middle part of the race where I had no rhythm or speed, and then bam, I got that 2nd last corner right, finally figured how to balance the car on entry and was able to get on the gas so much earlier and apex much quicker.   :)

Then I regained my enthusisam, caught up to Jeff and Mark who were having a real battle, and because Mark's 911 was held up by Jeff's struggling Vette in the slow parts I was able to just breeze by him on the main straight, which seemed a little unfair after all his attempts to pass the Vette.  Of course I then found myself in the same situation behind Jeff.  My tyres were still quite fresh (after my disinterested middle section  :P) so I had loads of speed round the bends but every time I got a run, I'd pull out, get alongside, then the huge power of the Vette would nudge it ahead a few feet.  Maybe 5 or 6 times we were side by side, but even being on the inside I didn't feel I was quite level enough, and Jeff wouldn't know quite where I was so I backed out each time to avoid a coming together.  Massive fun, I have to say.  That's what GTL is all about.    ;D

Thanks, hope so too. Annoying thing was I raced on Wednesday and had no lag problems whatsoever, not even a resynchronisation in more than 2.5 hrs of practice/qual/short pre-event races and the whole formal qualification and race.  ;D

Last night after I quit PingPlotter gave 5 errors in 10 samples - such is life.   ::)

JR

Meant to say thanks for the vette set up!
I did alter it slightly to make it driveable!  :D
but still could only manage 1.23's!
I can see that it will be quick but it just moves around more than I'm used to!?
I will keep trying if races allow the vette to enter!
Had to stick to the boring 911 option last night for some consistency!

;) It was a full chat crash Jeff, was fighting my stomach as well as the car and just lost concentration whilst trying to keep my dinner down  so threw it off track rather than hitting you, an absent front spoiler and a car that turned right on its own was the result but I managed to keep it going for some points at least.

A good race up until that point and was hoping to maybe get past you at some point (I could see the front wheels moving left to right a lot) as your corner speeds were dropping slightly, but it was not to be.

Congrats to the podium btw.
