Here's hoping that between now and January 24th you can find some other cars we can use as well as the E-Type. I HATE that car. >:(

Yeah, I remember an all E-type race at Brands which turned into a procession. Boring.

I like the occasional single car choice race.  And the e-type is really sweet to drive once you know it.   8)

The only real rivals to the e-type are the Corvette which eats its tyres and so will fall away as the race progresses or the Ferrari which is probably around a second slower due to its greater weight.

These cars rock :). Very controlable under drifts. So tempting that I now drift slightly through every corner  :whistling:

I've only just got a hold of GTL and fancy a wee shot. I won't be about to qualify though, is it ok to join the race at the back of the grid if there's space? (I'd probablly be at the back of the grid with qualifying anyway!)

If there's room, server is rarely full, you can do that Mr.Baracus :). At least that means there will be someone behind me on the grid  :)

Tried the jag once and hated it so I'm looking forward to being proved wrong and having some fun here. Can anyone post a setup that will help us jag noobs out?

-2s.

However, I did "cut" the last tight chicane, but I think that's allowed there right?

I've had a cut warning at that last chicane so go careful

Post by: Syd Drake on January 22, 2008, 04:31:36 PM +0000
As long as you don't put any of your tires on the gravel there, you're ok as far as cutting warning goes.

Thought in past races we were 'not' allowed to cut that chicane. Otherwise we will all be kerb hopping over it under late braking and getting out of shape. Can a moderator confirm?

Title: Re: UKGTL Season 4 GT Classics Cup - Nurburgring (Sprint) - Jan 24
Post by: MortenS on January 22, 2008, 04:45:53 PM +0000
This is what the rules say:
Quote
  • Under normal circumstances the simulation's internal cut detection will be relied upon to police the cutting of chicanes and other corners.
Drivers are strongly discouraged from the deliberate placing of one or more wheels on areas of grass, gravel and sand.
Clear and deliberate cutting which evades detection by the simulation may still result in a penalty.
  • A driver who gains an advantage through a cut must yield the advantage back to any affected car(s).
An advantage may include taking a place directly, setting up a pass, or avoiding losing a place.
  • Persistent or deliberate 'railriding' is strictly forbidden.
  • These rules apply in all sessions, including qualifying, even when not on a flying lap.

But I'm not sure what it means, as you're only discouraged from cutting, but you'll get a penalty for it :-\

By the way, I find this car okay to drive, but I can't stand the look of it. I think it's the uglyest car ever build :-\

Post by: Madd-RIP on January 22, 2008, 05:21:36 PM +0000
I'm sure the last time we drove here the '2 wheels on the track' rule was agreed upon, you can still 'cut' the chicane but you have to keep 2 wheels on the tarmack, ie within the white lines.
Some further clarification would very welcome however.

Post by: Mark J on January 22, 2008, 05:49:27 PM +0000
yeah i agree with Madd, it was the 'two wheels on the black stuff is legal' rule. So if anyone gains an advantage on you at that chicane by cutting, hopefully feel free to report their ass ! Still needs mod input though.

Mortens, wash your mouth out with soap !...ugliest car??...the E-Type?...are you mad :P She's a beauty.  :-*

I think it's best to let the game decide. That way it's equal for all and it improves the flow. It will be a big task to check if nobody has cut or not.

Well I'm not really running UKGTL per se but if I were I'd let the game decide. I don't think you can cut that chicane fully without getting a warning and if you take someone out as the result of a greedy (rather than accidental etc.) cut I would expect that to be reported and dealt with just like any other bit of inconsiderate driving.

Title: Re: UKGTL Season 4 GT Classics Cup - Nurburgring (Sprint) - Jan 24

The game defines all of the grey concrete area (on the second part of the chicane) as fair game, if you touch the grass/dust with your right wheels you will get a warning.  I think Simbin took the decision to allow these softly sprung cars to use the concrete.

Allowing jumping of the grey area will level the playing field, even if it is against the spirit of keeping 2 wheels on the black, otherwise we will have people gaining advantage by 'outbraking' themselves and cutting.  Also, we might end up checking every person every lap for the location of their left wheels - 'were they ON the white line or OVER it'.

Although it was non-championship, most of us were certainly outside the white lines with ALL wheels in at least 2 of the chicanes at Zolder.

The only all E-Type race that I can remember was when GTL was just released. It was at Dijon and it was 2 races, and in the 2nd race me and Edamspeed (IIRC) had a photofinish :D. I think that was the first event I ever won here.

Whoops - im thinking of brands hatch, not sure it was all e-types, but that was what the majority drove.
i ran out of fuel near the end! good race though.

How long ago was that race you were thinking of Ruskus?

I hope I can race tonight, had a massive painattack last night due to my kidneystones and I'm prescribed heavy musclerelaxing painkillers. So I hope I don't get an attack tonight, because that hurts like sjiet :P and racing with musclerelaxing drugs doesn't make me improve as well  ;D

If it's anything like one of JR's normal setups, I'd watch out for massive amounts of oversteer and more steering lock than there are specs of blood in the Team Shark garage. ;) :P

Oh man..... :'(

What a disgrace.

My return to UKGTL ended before it began. Crapiola.

Start whent crappy but no matter, still in third, hoping Baracus would keep Ruskus occupied so I could get some concentration back. I dunno why it was so hard for me, couldn't focus at all. Ruskus was slowly slipping further and further. Just focus dammit, put in a good lap, or two. Then I realised it. I still had my sweater on, and was really hot.

Sounds like a lame excuse I know, but it's always been the case that when I start getting hot I start driving crappy. So, here comes the back straight, i'll just take it off real quick...turn ending, wheel straight, headphones off, bwuah, sweater off, oh crap, here comes the mild bend....and what do I do %¤%¤#

As I'm putting my hands back on the wheel I let my palm thats sliding over it grab and the wheel turns left. With steering lock of 31, nothing I could do anymore. I'm in the wall and engine won't start.

Dumbest move ever.

Sorry for messing up, and then quitting, this just pissed me off something fierce. One of my favorite tracks too.  :-[

Well, hope you guys had a good race at least, I'll be back for more next time, hopefully without such dumb mistakes.

Haha mazing excuse Mike, it's so good, I immediatly believe it :D.

Both qually and race went very well, didn't make any mistakes in both and am pleased to finish first.

Also good to see so many people enjoy this race. For me, these kind of cupraces get preference. Not dangerous difference in carcharacteristics etc and no "best" car. Just man against machine...and man again :P

I really dont managed to get a decent setup for race.
First half was fun with a close racing with Simon and Mclean,
but i lost the convoy when i spun due to a stupid mistake (braking hard with a wheel
on grass) ::)
After that, had some fun trying to keep in front of Ossie.  :P
Almost at the end of race Dan spun, and i grabbed the 7th place.  :)
Great car for drifting, i had to be very very carefull exiting corners,
or E-Type begining to dance all over, cool race tho.  ;D
Well done podium  ;)
Cheers

Had fun on that race,

Lots of battleing the entire race, but not with other cars - just my own! Way to stressfull to drive that car, and I was positive all week I would be spinning like crazy come race time. I was suprisingly consistent for the race, even if I started to lose time. I was holding great at mid pack, then behind Syd for many laps, then I started losing time and I don't know how. It may have been dude to the layers of tyre I was leaving behind me, or the fact my car was pulling to the left after being rear-ended early on, but I couldn't increase my times, and Blew a 14 second lead on 16th place. Ended up losing it by the end of the race.

Come the last few laps was a total nightmare. My tyres were gone, and that damage I suffered in the rear really started to come into play as I could feel the force feed back resist me when turning right, then losing all resistance when going back left, was tough to adjust to.

Was pleased with the race overall, as I was on the track for a lot longer than I anticipated, and the racing seemed clean and fair the whole night.

Only two retirements also, which also was a big suprise in these cars!

Slidey madness :D that was good fun :)

Thanks largely to JR's setup I managed to quali 5th I think, and finish 4th after a good battle with Baracus that must have lasted a dozen laps 8) also had a weird issue with automatic gears being enabled for some reason, which is why for the first 2 or 3 laps I almost lost it into T1 when I got chucked into 1st gear :(

It was nice to have all one car so there were no silly speed differences, (Jeff out front being the exeption :P :D), and also good to be back driving GTL ;D

Finally managed to get some kind of a clean fight with W. Tony and Will16V (thanks guys!) but then blew it when a TeamOldie car(?) wanted to lap me.. gave him room before the chincane but he overshot chicane. Terribly sorry about this; thought I gave you enough room to get you a clear run for the chicane..

Addendum: I think it was Dan Minton..

Unexpected good fun that :)

UKGTR duties (its not all fun and games you know) left me joining server in quali and I hadn't any pracci time in this car or track. Found my legs a bit in quali and stuck with it. Despite being really nervous on grid (comes from not knowing what your doing) I made a blinding start only to be slowed by somone making a poor one, thats the third week on the trot :-*. Then great fun fighting with Jebb (you were warping badly at times for me mate) and Will. Good clean stuff with the odd unavoidable bump for measure. Just how it should be :)

Then stuck in no mans land until MJ honed into view for last 10 laps. The wrong gearing selection in setup meant I couldn't really pressure him but I did enough to make it interesting for him ;). Is sliding around a corners at 90 degress borderline blocking? Hugely impressive and fun to watch MJ.

From where I stood standards were very, very good O0

What a blast! I had to ease off at the start while we were all bunched up to prevent rear ending someone again.  After about three laps I had Jonzo to contend with for a number of laps, the gap was getting bigger, then I'd make a slight f**k up and the gap would close slightly.  About a third of the way through he had gone completely.  I felt a bit gutted as I think we would have had a good battle up until the end.

It was boring for a bit as Mark Mclean and the group he was in pulled away and there was no one behind me for about 20 seconds.  Late on I unexpectedly came across a side ways Pribeiro, it didn't take him long to recover and did me under braking into the chicane.  For a handful of laps he was just in front of me and then out of the blue we came across Dan.

We passed Dan after his incident and we were pretty close for a while and then the mother of all f**k ups occured when I stupidly hit the huge wall leading to the start finish straight which spun me like a top.  Dan passed and opened up about a 6 second lead on me and I think I closed it back to about two or three seconds at the end.

Excellent stuff that!  No incidents for me after that shocker at Brands.

Grats to podium,  See yous all soon.

Wow that was even better than I'd hoped for. The single make race really worked, I think partly thanks to the wonder that is the E-Type. You couldn't get a much more fun car than that, so drift-able and controllable with a small hint of "my brakes need upgrading".

Had some good close battles with people and had to work really hard to try and make any sort of passing move with the cars so evenly matched.

Well done to Jeff and his stunning pace. I did load his setup, but it was a bit too alien for me so I had to make quite a few adjustments in the end to suit my style better.

Can't believe another season is close to the end now, just the wide open speed demon circuit that is Kyalami.

P.S. Mike, I've heard some lame excuses over the years but, "I lost cause of my sweater" has to rank up there with the best.  ;) Seriously, I know what you mean about the sweaters, I always have to take mine off before I race too. :)

Well, after my stupid error on lap 1 it turned into a very nice race!
Dunno how I spun it there on the first lap :( - must have been too keen to keep with Jeff (as if that was EVER going to happen today anyway) and the car just kept on turnin left in the 'complex'. I should have done a couple of full weight fuel/cold tyre exploratory laps but spent too long chasing the times of Mike and Jeff in qually (awesome pace guys!).

After wrestling myself back up to 4th I had an almightly scrap with Zacari for 3rd - that was really good!! :)

Unlucky Mike - I believe you even if these lot don't ;) - when I passed your wreck I thought that was a strange place to crash!!

Do I have to play this in single player for ages before I can buy the cars needed for multiplayer? I had a search and it looks like I do :(. Pretty annoying Really ****ing stupid as I don't really get the time to play much so when I do I'm practising for or racing in 'real' online races rather than the crap that is racing against AI. It really annoys me in driving sims when you have to work your way through the game to get the cars, fine for arcade games, but in a sim I just want to be able to choose a car/track combo and go race!

/rant

I noticed that the UKGTL skined cars are only 1 credit, can I use any of them or are they all for team members only?

They are for team members only ... however unlocking everything is a piece of cake:

Create an empty file named "TG2001.DYN" in your GTL installation direction. Any new profiles created in-game thereafter will have all tracks and cars unlocked from the start.

How different are we? I love racing against the AI. I find it makes practise a bit more interesting. Oh well each to their own.

a race to forget for me last night. I just didnt get the handling of the Jag right all evening. Weird as last two times i took the E-Type i loved it, with perfect power-drift and good exits. This time it felt like a ill-handling yank job and i struggled with heavy understeer and snap oversteer on exit.
I spent the whole race trying to keep the bastich pointing the right way instead of 'racing'.
First half of race went fine staying on the end of the front 11 for about 10 laps trying to keep the pressure on Ossie ahead of me.
I had a 7 second gap over the guys behind me at that point and gradually got upto 10th place.
Everyone was amazingly consistent in the top 12 last night and so there was no hope of gaining through their misfortune.
Then i had one of those weird sim laps where the car seems to suddenly lose all semblance of grip and every corner turns into a nightmare.  :( I lost my 7sec lead and got jumped by the battling Mr Oilly and tinman, making them fight for it for a couple of laps before my tyres decided they just didnt want to play anymore.
Then spent the last 10mins or so fending off Ginsters who was gaining on me every lap, closing right on my bumper for the final lap but i got it home ahead for a lacklustre 12th.  :(

After a few disappointing races this season it was nice to get a clean run, and with such a beauty of a car to drive (and look at)   8)

Pleased to get below 1:45 in qually, as soon as I did that I gave up chasing better times, loaded the car up with fuel and tested the balance, which was pretty nice.

Race was hectic for the first 8-10(?) laps, made a slow-ish start and Dan launched past with a blinder, was stuck behind the Madd/Dan/Zacari train keeping right on the tail but making sure of no contact under brakes, then Shark closed right up, very tight sandwich!  Think the train started speeding up and we stretched out a little from Shark then through came Baracas, got me clean into the chicane, no point fighting that.

Then it got a little less exciting, didn't want to push too hard, just lacked a tenth or two to the cars from 2nd to 4th.  Held on to them until my concentration failed me and dropped back quite a lot in the last 5 laps, losing momentum with a wheel on the grass, and then poor Wiltshire Tony was being so courteous letting me through on the straight he stayed wide at the kink and touched the grass and half (or completely?) spun. Despite slamming the brakes on and taking evasive action I still tagged his rear end.  Sorry you lost out so big time by letting me through.   :(

Ade, I think that was me but honestly, it must have looked worse from your car, it only lost me a tiny bit, no problem.

Single make races though - what a great idea!

What a terrible race last night.
Practiced a few hours this week but never could get the right feeling with the track and/or the car .
Even with a set-up from Alex (thanx mate) it was still not improving.

During race the only good thing was the start , but after a few laps I was already back where i belong ......  last few places.
At the end I had 2 stop/go's in a row and got a bit frustrated about this so i just escaped in the pit.
Not knowing this was the last lap already  ???

Well, better luck next time

Cheers Adam, I'll give that a go.

Well tbh I haven't tried yet in GTL so I may be wrong but generally I don't like playing and games or sims against AI - you never know if they have an unfair advantage coded into them! They also very rarely loose control after strong contact (unintentional of course ;)) and I usually find there's always at least one corner that they consistently brake too early regardless of difficulty. I just prefer racing against real humans who make real mistakes! (it's the only way I've got a chance!) Worst games EVER for AI imo is the grand turismo series but for some unknown reason they never seem to change it?!?

GTL is better than Gran Turismo  ;)
Try and do some practice races for upcoming events, offline, with AI opponents - it might give you some close-racing practice 8)

The race, for me, sucked.
I picked the heavier Jag, thinking that the extra power would see me blasting down the long straights, but it wasn't to be.
managed to get up to 12th position, but after a few mistakes, and a poor set-up, i finished in 19th.

Good racing from SBG and whoever else i was battling with - also apologies to J Bopman - i think i rear ended you on the chicane before the last turn.
I saw you brake but didn't expect it that early - sorry Jeb.

Anyway, last race next week, and then back to skinning some more motors - if we are having another GTL season?

Yes?
No?
Definatley?
Maybe?

According to Ruskus the heavier Jag is actually slowest, and according to the menu screens it has the same power. ???

Great fun race!
Started in 18th, made a great start and made up a few places.
Had a minor bump, self inflicted half way through the race!? recovered the places by the end of the race due to errors from other people!?
A few close battles!? really good fun.
15th in the end! Thanks Mr BMW for the extra place ! and Will for the spin for another!  :D

I vote for more one class races!!

M.

Whilst not wishing to put words in their mouths, given the improvement in grid sizes this season I would imagine SbG and Pseueueudo will be keen to get Season 5 underway at their earliest convenience. :punk:

Definatley contraversial...maybe...no/yes...what??

You sound like that Pinnochio character out of Shrek 3 lol (not that i watch it all the time :o)

I'm possibly more or less not definitely rejecting the idea that in no way with any amount of uncertainty that I undeniably do or do not know if a new GTL season will commence here at SROU presently or in the future.

Same power is useless when it's 130kg heavier  :o.

I'll just race backwards so it's rear wheel driven :P. It will steer very sharp too :)

We are working feverishly behind the scenes to ensure the NEW GTL SEASON 5 starts in timely fashion now the end of S4 is upon us....by way of a subtle hint.....it would be well worth anybody wishing to include any new skins for another season to start work on them immediately.  ;)
