I'm backshift so will miss this one. I had my first shot on an open server today in the mini around valencia national. Great fun and I won both races! The only thing I found annoying the game gave me a few unjustified warnings for cutting corner at the chicane near the end of the lap. I was clearly two wheels on track.

Reference applying the new patch, I have launched Steam with auto update enabled, it seem to update something in Race 07 but this is not showing in update history. When I launch the sim it shows version 101.1 Is this the updated version?

The server claims to be running 1.0.1.1

Considering how long Steam has been in the wild why does it seem some of the basics don't work. Like you I have no update history shown and when I click on the friends thang and players I recently played against that list is empty  :-\ So all the other cars in Monday's race were in my imagination were they!

Before you rear wheel drive fanatics write off WTCC, have you tried a real "designed for racing" ETCC homologation special - the original E30 BMW in WTCC87.  This, I think, is a far better drive than either of the BMWs in WTCC 2006 or WTCC 2007.  ;D This is a proper uncompromising Sports Saloon not a modified production car.  :hammer:

I think that only works for official Steam servers, Steam doesn't recognise any of the Race 07 servers. I thought that was odd too.

Yes 1.0.1.1 is the on-line version of the patch.
As Picnic said the server is upto date with the new patch, if you can connect to it your ok.

Any ideas what improvements this patch comes with for Race 07?

Methinks that basically they've just turned on the "World Ranking" feature. I keep getting an EULA dialog too which is mildy annoying.

Now I'm a football fan, but I've grown sick and tired of England and the Premiership. No respect in the game, too much cheating and England matches are invariably dull. I'm very tempted to give the game a miss as I'm not really bothered whether we qualify or not anymore. Disappointed about Scotland not getting there, but really if England don't make it, shucks.

Might seem obvious, but how does one create a photo to ones username like alot of you have, and add a Team name which I didn't do when I activated my membership. Any tips would be helpful.

That's the trouble with something like Steam, the developers can release patches as fast as they can knock them out! No quality control :(

Fingers crossed for later. A small field might not be a bad thing in these cars when we come to T1 after a standing start!

Why is a patch a problem Don?

The game runs through Picnics Steam account, now it's updated it needs his password to restart :-[
He is the only one at this time that knows what it is I believe. So fingers crossed he visits the forum before the race

Bad start in race1, car felt awful, many cock-ups, with 2 laps to go I wasn't going anywhere other than last so I took my front wheels off on the pit wall.

Race2 was great to start with - got a big lead on lap 1 - dunno what happened there.  Going great, only to balls it up big time when Ruskus let me by so he could torment me by blitzting me the following lap.  Big spin, and carried on spinning so I quit in disgust.....


Annoyed.

Still not a fan of these cars. Too knife edgy and lack of feel.

With half an eye cheering on Croatia I span twice on straights, but it was a fun little race none-the-less.

What a hoot that was :) Full of mistakes but fun nontheless.

Race 2 started with me unable to engage gear due to messing around in chat and not paying attention to the start timer! :wetfish:

Think I managed a 5th & 3rd so not too bad in the end :)

Was busy making a setup from scratch and was learning as I went. At the end of qually I had something quite good and was surprised about my lap.

Race 1 I had a Lewis Hamilton at Brasil moment and I lost alot of speed on the straight, ending up last ;D. Was fun fighting my way up and in the end great with Dan. I overtook him halfway in the last lap, but took it back in the last corner. Nice move.

Race 2 I had a good start and was a few places up quickly. Had some fun with Simon ( ::)) and Adam.


I hope I didn't cause that  :-[. I thought it might have been more fun battling for position than being on our own, especially when it's a funrace. Sorry if I messed up your race  :(

Replays are in, results will take a bit longer, thanks to the new patch.

I'll update the importer tomorrow morning and run it through my comprehensive quality control process (ie. try an import and if it works declare the system perfect :D).

Pretty good qualifying.

Race 1 was good with very few mistakes couldn't hold onto Jeff when he went pass me for second place!

Race 2 was a disaster, went to take a tear off from my helmet and hit the wrong button when I was following Dan Minton I think, and span. Last couple of laps got caught out by my brake balance on near empty tanks.

I'm no expert but the Avatars are simply a JPG. I guess one takes a render of one's car, adds the text and shrinks it to a sensible size. If you go to your forum profile you can tell the system what avatar to use. You may have to upload it somewhere first as I'm not sure if the forum stores them for you.

I ordered this game after the Upper Sprint race yesterday....seeing as it's already dropped to £18. I'll be around to torment the crash barriers in a couple of days then  ::)

Really enjoyed that ..Went passed Jeff when he relised that he was going to drive off into the sunset and get board.  Had a lonely race but new Jeff would get bigger in my mirrors as the race went on... He made a good move on the last lap but i got a better drive out of the the uphill right and got him on the inside on the last corner..good fun. ;D
Race 2 i got a mega jump off the line and was bout to blast past a few people then saw Pops car just sitting there and could not avoid him and lost my front wing, crawled back to the pits to find that my pit crew where down the pub ??? whats going on with the pit stops??

Results now in. There's a small anomaly in that the logic for determine the second race start positions expects to find at least 8 finishers from the first race, but if fields are that small we won't be running any championships. ;)

I might have to get that then...I haven't driven any touring cars since the first version of TOCA.

I saw alot of oversteering F3000 last night. Normally I am the one that oversteers alot, but this time I made a setup from scratch using the R2Play setupguide. And it was very stable and pretty quick, so if anyone wants to try it out give me a shout :). It's a tweaked default, and not super different, but better turn in with stability.

Can you point me towards the guide? I seem to suck at setup adjustments for RACE 07.

I made some small changes to the default set-up and it felt pretty stable, where it went wrong for me was if I got the wheel too far onto the kerb it just sent the back end flying out.

I found I was able to catch any 'proper' oversteer (i mean by me being too enthusiastic on the go-faster pedal out of a corner) pretty easily after a bit of practice.

According to the sector times you were incredibly quick through sector 3, I was able to stay within a second of your time through the first 2 sectors then you just exploded. I suspect the uphill chicane was where you were really a lot faster, I can never get that damn corner right in any car :(

Yeah me too. Was losing a lot in the braking for the final corner too as I couldn't brake hard without spinning there.

I have the same, maybe not as bad, but it's hard to remove it completely. Best thing is to not take too much curb, not needed at Valencia.


Could be the uphill chicane, but I think it's more the last corner. I take the chicane in 4th and I'm on the throttle during the chicane, to keep weight on the rears.

The last corner is much more important, due to the straight afterwards. I use 50:50 brake bias (was on 47:53, but that makes the rears work too hard), which means you have to blip to keep the rear stable. I rarely suffer from a dancing ass under braking (manual clutch, blipping) so I can always have bias alot to the rear, giving good balance between front and rear brakepower.
I approach the last corner in 5th (not 6th as it will cost you an extra downshift) and I brake just before you go over the hill. Hard to explain, but the tarmac gets dark, and a few metres before you go down I brake. I do that there as the car gets compressed and you can brake really hard, so be carefull when you go over the hill, as it's easy to lock up then. Shortly lift off the brake a bit and when the car "lands" again brake hard again and immediatly steer in to the apex. Really important to get a good exit here, as a small error will cost you tenths on the straight.

Here is the setup. Depending on your wheel rotation, change steering lock. I run 400 on my G25 and 23 ingame. That way I can use alot of lock when needed (hairpins etc) but also be precise in other corners. It's always good to have a reserve at your disposal, that's why I always run 100% brakestrength.

Yes I used that and tried to make some adjustments. It had horrible understeer and snap oversteer braking. :laugh:
