Title: Easily update your GPL
Post by: Syd Drake on February 06, 2008, 06:52:49 PM +0000
Here's another way to easily get the GPL working under any Windows AND looking great, GPLPS:

http://gplps.org/wb/pages/projects/gpl-installer.php (http://gplps.org/wb/pages/projects/gpl-installer.php)

All you need to know is on the site.
Esentially, you get all the patches, all the new car graphics, and all new track graphics, except for Monaco. That one you can download here:

Syd, I recently re-discovered my GP Legends disk which I thought I'd lent, lost etc yonks ago. Is this installer all I need to get GPL up and running on my Windows XP/ATI graphics card PC? Sounds too good to be true. I would of thought there would be endless faffing around.
I'd love to see how crap I used to be at GPL again.

Hi Tony

I have tried just that today and it works great. Downloaded the new 'installer' and put the GPL disk in. The programme does everything, patches, graphics updates etc. I was soon losing control of my Lotus at Watkins Glen in glorious 1080p for the first time in several years. Do it, great fun.  ;D

With Vista as well?  I finally replaced my old PII 400, windows 98, Voodoo 2 PC a few months ago with a new box that is running Vista buggered about for a while to get GPL running but ran out of steam.  Beginning to miss driving the fridge ....

Hi Diki Waza,
If you are thinking about immersing yourself in GPL again, there is a vacancy within the Waza's....in fact there are NO waza's at the moment, but a new season is about to start in UKGPL and who knows,  ::) I might even dig out my white headband and fundoshi. ;)

Working on XP for me - not gone to Vista. Hoping to miss that generation of Windows.

I messed up my install today. I thought I would do a quick reinstall BUT NO! I didn't save the installer...just thought I would d/l another copy...Now can't find one

Another useful source of information, this site covers all mods.

http://www.srworld.eu/contenido-4.6.8/cms/front_content.php?idcat=90

This should link the page to guide you through the basic installation processes but there is a host of other stuff on Stefan's site if you browse around.

Cheers guys will try that out at the weekend.

I've been doing mostly iRacing recently but just had a run out at Nurburgring with the BREASTS GPL crew last night. With the Kelllaaa update for that track I was amazed how good GPL still looks, even against the current state of the art games.

For some reason i missed all this GPL fun  ::),   ive downloaded the demo numerous times but can never set up the controller ??    Whats the correct way to set it up.

Does it make any difference buying and installing the full sim?  I'm running Vista 64 if it makes any difference.

Cheers

Hello Dan,

You can get the CD for £5 now (if not less) via amazon and various other outlets, so well worth buying.  I'm not sure if the demo has any controller restriciton on it, but I would think not.

What controller are you using?

Providing it is calibrated within Windows the controller should work, once calibrated via the options menu in GPL.  My wheel is set to direct, not generic as is most others I believe.  I use Vista 64 and everything work as it should with GPL.

Good luck, hope to see you on track sometime.

Hi Dan welcome to the centre of the ( racing) universe. UKGPL   ::)

I guess that by "controller" you mean "installer"? which is mentioned earlier in this post.

I believe that for this to work effectively and correctly you need a GPL game disc. It is usually available for about £5 on ebay , so is well worth the investment.

http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m38.l1311&_nkw=grand+prix+legends&_sacat=See-All-Categories

Then, you just download the installer... and insert the disc when asked for it and the magic happens all on its own....honest  ::)

There are a few updates and whizzy bits that will enhance your enjoyment and there is endless help and advive available here to guide you through that.

I have done all the installation steps, but when I go to a race event I only see the left up side quarter

There are two solutions.

1.  The line in the core.ini:
    [ Direct3D7 ]
    DirectMirrorRendering = 1
    Change it to
    DirectMirrorRendering = 0

This taken from the GPL FAQ at the Mirror Zone, a very useful source of information. Keep this link in your bookmarks.

http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=3714

2. I think maybe using the updated rasterisers might also fix that problem. Get them here.

http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=3727

They are virtually essential for any up to date gfx card.

It's working fine now.  :)
However, the 65 mod isn't working. Will try to find another site where I can d/l it.
66 and 69 mods are working also.  :)

It seems that all links I found in google aren't working for 65 MOD.
I have the option of the mod in GEM+2, can select it but the picture of a previous car doens't change
on the right side of the GEM cars display. Even with the mod selected I run the game, but when
I click on the green tab to go to track I get a CTD.
Btw, the engine sounds are horrible. Is that the way they are?  :o

Link for 65mod:

http://download.bcsims.com//gpl/fp.gplegends.plus/65/65modv2.htm

Sound can be troublesome. What are your system specs and OS?

Most sound problems can be fixed by reducing the hardware acceleration to basic. This can be found in dxdiag (run>dxdiag). Then under sound tab reduce the hardware acceleration to basic.

I re downloaded 65 MOD and carset.
Have done exactly as the instructions and pictures in the site of the link you gave me,
I can select 'FULL65' at the options, but I still can't select the 65 'carset' because it isn't there
to chose from and activate. I know I'm missing or doing something wrong for sure.
Still, I have followed all the steps... :-\

OK, that GEM should be OK. Did you start again from scratch with a full install or did you only re-install the 65 mod? If you only re-installed the 65's did you remove all the original 65 files?

As far as I know yes. There's a good troubleshooting guide here (http://wiki.grandprixlegends.info/index.php?title=GPL_FAQ_and_troubleshooting_guide#GPL_Trouble_Shooting_and_Problems_FAQ) to get you started and if you run into any problems post here and I'm sure someone will be able to help.

Forget the issue now but if you have it I'm sure I/someone else can tell you what to do  :)

installed but having problems with the graphics at the moment slowly working through all info found but as of yet not winning

problems at the moment are when the game loads the screen with the menu for "driver" "options" and what ever is to big, the buttons at the bottom are off screen, have to drop mouse off screen and click around to proceed  when at track there are no options for garage ? again screen is to big buttons at bottom are off screen when finally managing to click the drive button  I'm in the car and it's in very wide screen black bars at top and bottom nearly 1/3 each with the car/track in a band 1/3 the hight of the screen  ::)

when driving wheel is very "sloppy" but maybe I need to turn the rotation down or something for GPL

shall have another fiddle at the weekend see what i can do to make it usable  ;)

ps some system spec
i7 2600k Sandy Bridge, water cooled,
Nvidia GTX480 1.5gb ram'
12gb ram,
win 7 64bit,
monitor using Sony 32in HD TV

G27 wheel /CPS pedals

Thanks Goran that installer worked better I'm able to run the game, but still have to use guess work as to where the buttons are at the bottom of the menu screens, they are still over sized for some reason  ::)

I'll continue working on it  ;)

not sure this will help but try right clicking on your gpl.exe (not just the shortcut to it) then select compatibility tab and check the 'disable visual themes'

I have that set for all my gpl##.exe files, which you will have once you install more mods i.e. gplc65.exe for 65 mod.

Also I have the 'run this program as an administrator' checked too.

might work :)

This is quite interesting but I have found that I have to disable UAC on my main PC but not on my laptop - I don't have to run as administrator but on my main PC if I try it with UAC on, GEM+ won't run.

Sorry but I have ATI graphics...
But this belongs to the GPU setup! There must be a solution in the NV setup to keep the resolution.
Sometimes it helps to install the driver of the monitor.
