Title: Team Championship - how to make and join a team
Post by: Dave 'Gizmo' Gymer on August 01, 2005, 02:59:10 PM +0100
Click here (https://www.simracing.org.uk/lm2/index.php?action=teams) to see the team management pages.

The process is totally automated and allows teams and drivers to manage themselves without help from the administrative team.

Membership of a team for championship purposes is done strictly according to the use of this system; drivers will not score points for races started before completing the registration process.

How do I make a new team?

Go to the page listed above, enter a team name, and click "Create new team". You will be prompted for the name of the team, but you can edit this later. You will not automatically join the team, but will instead be invited to do so. This is so that you don't have to leave any existing teams if you're creating a new one for a different championship.

How can other people join my team?

Any member of a team can use the "Allow to join" feature to allow another member to join; usually you will have discussed team membership beforehand. Once you have selected the member name and pressed the Allow button, a PM will be sent to the member asking them to join. And then...

I have been invited to join a team. How do I do so?

Go to the page listed above (or click the link in the PM you have received); you should see the team shown, along with a "Join" button. Press the button. Any previous team membership for the select group of events (usually "all") will be cancelled, but points scored will remain with the previous team.

I want to be a privateer again

Go to the Team Management page and press the appropriate "Leave" button. Points scored previously remain with the team.

Can I be a member of different teams in different championships?

Yes. For any team of which you are a member, you can change the group you're membership is associated with from "(all)" to something more specific, eg. "UKGTL". If you need several membership records, eg. if you drive for different teams in UKGTL, UKGTR Sprint, and UKGTR Endurance, you can invite yourself to join the team again.

How can I see who belongs to what team?

Click here (https://www.simracing.org.uk/index.php?ind=lm2&teams=NULL) (or select Teams from the main website navigation strip).

I'm also thinking of setting up a team, but I'm not really that bothered about scoring points, etc. I'm more interested in helping some of the less experienced drivers to improve, so if you feel you fit into that category and fancy joining a team to get some feedback and advice then pls get in contact.

I dont want to create a team, but if anyones looking for a Lister driver to add to their team, give me a call. I drive in WOSEC team championship and love it.

Dave, perhaps a 'Drivers market' thread could be started so guys can advertise there willingness to be on a team.

You're capable of posting in UKGTR|Miscellaneous (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?board=5.0) aren't you? ;)

That is, as you correctly surmise, the implication of "You will be the only member of the new team". ;)

Cheers

There is no systematic limit in place but only the top two (in class, where appropriate) from each team score championship points. Hopefully the prospect of having most of your drivers not score anything will stop excessive numbers of drivers joining a single team.

Nice work Dave.

We gained and lost a member in a single day today. This team business is just like real life racing with drivers ducking and diving and going for the 'best package' it seems ;)

You don't have to smoke 40 a day and wear beige bry nylon slacks in the evenings gents to be an NGTLĀ  :)

I think we might have to hack Dave's code so we can illegally transfer the dE guys into the NGT Legends teamĀ  ;D

I've just completed a major overhaul of the team management page and the membership list, to allow members to join more than one team at a time, eg. Tesm Shark for UKGTR but Team Herring for UKGTL.

The instructions in the first post of this thread have been updated to match. Let me know if you encounter any problems.

Made some minor improvements to stop people accepting invites multiple times. As usual, if you spot any wierdness, please post here.

Hi, any team looking for a driver. I can be transfered freely :D. So no 1 million dollar transfer fee ;)

I'm currently driving NGT (F360), but I can also drive the GT class.
I don't think I need further introduction :D

Also for GTL.

If I get transfered can I take my points with me that I've currently won?

No, team points remain with the team you were driving for when they were earned. (That's why the various pages show a complete record of who drove for each team and when.)

I have Invited a driver to join our team just for the GTL series.....I have invited him normally and sent a covering message explaining he will need to ensure he accepts ONLY for GTL....Is this right?

And secondly, I noticed Gazzer49er wasn't scoring team points in some events as he was only registered for 1.....can he change his registration to 'All' as things stand or will I need to re-invite him to join?

The Team Management page has now been upgraded so that all team members can manage the per-series memberships, and a per-series invite can be sent.

Please report any wrongness.

Well Ive had abit of a break from racing, but I'm back now.
So hopefully this season I'll get some offers from some teams, but i wont hold my breath.
OK I'm a little erratic and aggressive, but hopefully Ive left that behind me.
This time I'm here for some serious racing alot of practice and some well earned improvement.
Not that i think i need to much improvement, just a chill pill now and again.

Is it possible to have a team racing with standard GTL/GTR2 paint jobs?

Yes, of course, just as we have privateers racing with skins.

Hi Dave,

In UKGPL some of us have effectively been in two teams at once, one of which applied to the Masters Cup and the other to Div1.  I refer to SBRC and Soggy Bottom Brabhams.

Whilst I think that the days of Soggy Bottom Brabhams are numbered I wondered if the fact that it had been arranged thus will give you any problems when migrating the old data to its new home.

Thanks for all the hard work mate, as always!

To split the question into two parts...
  • The new system links drivers with teams in the same way as the old one, so split teams, drivers in one team for one series and another for other series work in the same way as before, just with self-service membership.
  • Historic data will be treated in a slightly different way than live data, but it's one of the smaller problems I'm facing. :D

Note that I cocked up the team management pages on March 11 whilst trying to lock them down after an attempted hack. :-[ They should be working again now but any team invites sent on or after that date should be sent again, and other changes to team status including firing drivers should be checked as they may not have been correctly actioned.

Thanks.

I created the WSL Racing Team, and sent out a few invitations. The invitations that were sent out were to join Soggy Bottoms Racers Club. I withdrew the invitation and sent it back, but still had the same problem.

Thanks for your help,
