Cant be the track.....we have already raced here with no problems, the server is set ok and no reported problems. So I can only guess that any probs being encountered are at your end, so it will prolly be worth you ensuring things are right before joining thursday, so as not to cause anyone else a prob.

...it just flashed up loading Berni Lomax over and over  ???
...

That happens whenever you don't have the skin the flashing driver name is using. Happens to me a lot in Altbierbudes server, since they update their skins continuously. My GTL folder is 16,2 Gb now, largely thanks to their skins and tracks.

Wonder why my best is 1.58 but now realised I've downloaded wrong version Zandvoort from section ::) Just a reminder that its 1967 version and don't be as stupid as me. Hope this versions is as good as that one  :)

TVR for me.

This track is very good - I remember it from the GPL days. It's gonna be difficult to race on, though as it is quite narrow for these cars. Should be good.

This is an awesome track, i have had great races here before with the No-grip and GBGTL crowds.  8)
It is tight and narrow in stretches but you still end up with great racing and clean overtaking opportunities.
Once you get your rhythm sorted with the drifts through some fast banked corners, its amazing.

A superb choice for the opening round  :-*

Think i will be in the Daytona, but will try one or two of the other cars out as well.

Its better than my speed :) 1.36 flat best in the TVR and boy its hairy fun. Sure the Cobra is faster but credit to anyone who can drive it consistently around here.

Note that number of laps has now been amended. Its now a 25 lap race.

Great track....but sooooooooooo unforgiving  :o

I can see there being quite a few broken cars littering the track by the end of the race....mine first  ::)

Taking the lotus as it's about the only one I can make go round here forwards most of the time...high 1:35's is best....very high 12:383:987's is more normal though.  ;D

Hmm, is that drift or spin?  Having driven the Cobra a few times in races here I know what happens to me in the final few laps, get out the old spinometer.   :D

was going to take the Daytona but i seem well off the pace in that so far (1:37's) but am doing 1:35's in the Cobra and can go quicker me-thinks with some more laps. Never driven the Cobra ever in GTL so will probably take that for a 'spin'  ;D  It looks flipping cool in our Legends paint job too  8)
The Elans the easy car here, you just bury the throttle pedal and pump in good laptimes, cant help but feel its the kop-out car as doesnt require any of the finesse/brute handling skills (and tyre wear) of the other muscle cars present so wonder why its in the same race  ??? Sure it'll lose out on the main straight but everywhere else it will be all over the other cars like a rash and setting regular low laptimes. The E-Type would have been a better opponent IMO.

Really looking forward to this race, love Zaandvort  8)

It was added for the likes of ME....

I can't handle the oversteery cars and basically without something easier to handle, like the elan, It would hardly be worth my while turning up....I'm probably not alone....those other beasties take some taming and I for one haven't got a handle on them yet.

yeah thats a good reason to put them in i guess :-\, would rather have fuller field of cars so...

but then all quick drivers should be banned from taking the Elan ! :euro:

Oh I dunno, Elan might have the 289 Cobra beat on most tracks.
However, if we're talking about the 427, then sure it's risky and a handful, but if you can control it, it will be in a class of it's own. That's not an "if" to dismiss lightly, of course. Still, only GTC-65 car to have a chance against the mighty Cobra on *any* track, is the GT40, imo.

I may be wrong, because I've never done longer races then 20min or so in the Cobra. Maybe tireproblems can sway the balance. Or tired arm - problems  ;D

I was also sure the Cobra was fastest, although I hope it will be very close after 40 mins. As I said before, anyone who can drive it consistently on a track that punishes mistakes like this track will deserve their win, and be extremely knackered at the end.

As long as I can get close to you gents in the TVR I'll be happy :)

This is a 100% handling track, just check out GTLrank. It's only outclassed by the GT40. In the top 15 there are 6 Elans and only 1 Cobra.

But the Cobra is awesome to drive with an online setup from -=4ph3x=-.

Best so far is a high 33  :-\

His setup for the TVR was horrid as it was tuned solely for drifting.

I spent hours trying to tune the TVR for this track and I couldnt' get anything remotely useable :(

Me neither :'( The Cobra felt "easy" after the TVR and I was quickly 2 second faster. Anybody help? Or, a late switch to the dark side is on the cards.

Where do you sturggle with the TVR? Corner entry, mid-corner or corner-exit?

Usually lowering the rear slow bump helps, also softening the rear ARB makes it easier. Not too much rearcamber to keep the tyrewidth high :).

But in general the TVR is a b*tch :D. I haven't driven it here yet, but I can give it a go later :).

I take its terrible brakes as given, but I was suprised that I couldn't get it to go quickly through fast twisty back section. Slow mid-corner, and exiting, on the faster turns for me and much slower there than the Cobra. First section, with slower corners, was about the same timewise.

Back to the Cobra vs Elan debate - there are lots of Elans at GTL rank as No Grip did an Elan race here recently so many drivers have posted their times!!

I tested the Elan and got high 33s, then jumped in the Cobra and was straight away over 0.5s quicker, so don't let anyone tell you the Elan is as fast!  But it is a little easier to drive!  This should actually make for a very even race.   :)

As for the TVR, it isn't really that bad, is it?   ;)  Should be quicker than the Shelby at least, only managed high 35s in that, it's quite a heavy car with a lot of understeer, but I haven't tested the TVR here.

The NoGrip Elan race was on the newer Zandvoort Steve, but there was a NoGrip GTC65 race on the 67 track 4 or 5 months ago in which most people drove the GT40 or the Elan.

Looking forward to tonights race. I'll probably take the Elan as I doubt I could keep one of the V8s on this track for very long  :D

Hi Geoffers, be good to see you in the mix tonight - hope you've been on the practice server to test your install, sometimes people do have problems to start with.   ;)

I stand corrected, I was away for the Zandy race so didn't pay much attention to the precise track.   :P  Just saw lots of familiar names on GTLRank!

Well that has a mixed bag of feelings :P.

Got on pole with a PB. After that I went downstairs and came back and alt-tabbed to shut down team speak. But then the whole PC crasht  :-X. The irony  ::).

Didn't have time to do a qually lap, so I had to start alllllll the way at the back. Start was very dangerous because that big musclecar is quite a thing between those Elans. Gained a few places cleanly and the rest of the places I gained on the straight, as there is hardly another place to overtake :).

Was pushing hard, a bit too hard, as I made 2 mistake both at the same corner (one that leads to s/f straight). That lost me maybe 10s, which came bame to haunt me, as SBG was too far now.

Grats SBG, good stable drive :D

This was my most competitive race in UKGTL so far, even though in the end I only managed to equal my best ever finish of 5th.
I started 3rd, my by far best ever starting position. Got a good start, and was second into t1. Then I was shadowing Steve for a couple of laps, I would overtake him on the straight, but he would get back in front under braking for T1. Third time asking I managed to make it stick, and stayed ahead after t1. Unfortunately, we made contact at the hairpin, I went off, and rejoined in 4th. I managed to track down and then pass two Elans to get back to second. But to do this I had to push more than I wanted to, and spent my tires. So late in the race, I made 2 mistakes and went down to 5th where I finished. I must have been driving on rims at the end, that's how bad the car felt. I was about 1.5-2 seconds off my own pace in the last 5 laps.

I think that was the most enjoyable race of the seasn so far - some great driving, with a decent car selection and a good track.
I remember Zandvoort from last season, never raced it before then, but liked it since.
Race was excellent - qualified 11th, and had some great battle's on the way around - chasing Keiths black Cobra for a few laps, the Elan faster in the bends, but seeing that Cobra pull away on the straits.
That came to an end when we were coming up to turn 1, and i think i was a bit too close to Keith when he braked, and i couldn't avoid hitting the back end, only a little, but causing a spin - sorry for this Keith, was getting a bit carried away  ::)
After that i was mainly chasing Ade, but his was a bit too quick for me, and i made a few mistakes - more so on the last lap, when i spun, and went wide, letting two Elan's past  >:(
But excellent driving and a good event - thanks for organising guys - more of the same to come i hope  8)

Amazing scrapp with TinMan  and Steve Holmes, was fun guys.
Sorry to Martin very close driving and i´d hit throttle earlier than you,
thats why i touch your rear, very sorry.
One word for the great recovering driving from Jeff.

A bit sheepish about the win there :whistling:

First, felt bad not taking the TVR but, honestly, the Cobra was just as fun and on the pace of the hairdresser's so had to be that. As a penance I'll choose the Falcon next week.

Secondly, real bad luck to JR in quali. Chuffed with my pb and then watched his amazing sub 33 lap. Simply stunning and glad I pushed him hard enough to get that time. On pole you would have bee untouchable I guess.

Third, bit lucky with Syd's and Steves tangle left me clear. To be honest, I knew high gearing option would leave me vulnerable on grid and relaxed into catching you gents slowly. Shame that robbed me off a great fight I think. Virtual cruise to finish really.

That said. Woot Woot. I'll take a win anyway it comes and I'll prolly never be that lucky again ;D

Good turnout and look forward to some regulars returning next week to make a full grid. Also, must be said that standards were excellent from where I sat :) Also hope all enjoyed the track as much as I did, as we will have same car/track combo for the next 9 races ;)

Mixed feelings for me,

I enjoyed the track/car combo....cobras vs elans turned out pretty much as expected.

Qually went not too well....over 1/2 a second off my pb and started 8th. Got a cracking start off the line though and managed to get between two cars round T1....but things got a bit too tight and a slight nudge (just a racing nudge...no wrongdoing by anyone ;D) put me into a bit of a spin when trying a little too hard to accelerate. So, back to dead last and started chasing. Got as far as the second last corner only to have someone rejoin, after an excursion into the hills, right into the side of me....spin 2 resulting and now some 20 secs behind the pack.

Chase was on again and I made some places back through folk going off but couldn't seem to get close enough to anyone to make any real racing passes.

Grats to sbg on a fine win, and unlucky break alla qually for Jeff, but great drive to get back in 2nd.

see ya all next week.

Grrr, that turned out a lot worse than i hoped. :(

Qualified a good 4th place, 8) Ran really well for first half of race, always in top 5 or 6 and keeping steady for first 15 out of 25 laps.

Then literally just as i was thinking to myself 'keep going son, your doing really well in the dangerous Cobra" ...i span off at that last corner before the straight! and team-mate Steve H, who had been chasing me hard for a few laps, was able to gallop through along with a couple of others.
And then a lap later or so i got nerfed off at the same corner by an Elan and i lost a load of places and about 30 seconds of time , trying to spin my way out of the slippery sand.
That was it, my concentration went, got hot and bothered and then had about 3 more offs and finished a crappy undeserved 13th ?, even losing a place to Pseudo on last lap when the car went around on me in sector 1. >:(

The cobra was great around zaand but i found i really had to concentrate very hard and could never contemplate any kind of defensive or tactical driving, it was all about keeping it on the race line and getting your braking and accelerating spot on or you were off. Once that intense concentration went or i got buzzed by other cars, invariably it all went wrong. In clear track up front i was steaming along but later on it turned to craps-ville.

well done Steve, enjoyed our little mid race battle too and congrats to Ginsters and other pody guys  8)

Good driving all round except for my stupid nudge on Syd, I am truly sorry for that   :-[, it was a great battle for the lead, and we both lost out on certain podium places.  Dunno what happened, you lost a little momentum under acceleration, maybe wheelspin, maybe gearchange from 1st to 2nd and it caught me out, didn't expect to close up suddenly.  Punished myself by waiting until I saw you were back on the tarmac before I began to rejoin so ended up 7th or so.  At least I led a few laps, never done that before.   :)

But from there it was an absolute corker of a race, pressure all the way.  Elan was at such a tactical disadvantage (ignoring the difficulty of keeping the Cobra on track, of course), held up through the twisties - I was constantly having to lift behind Cobras, particularly entering the final bend - and then a sitting duck on the straight.  Can't remember how many times I had to lift or brake entering the straight behind MJs cobra, get swamped from behind then have to duck to the inside and brake as late as I possibly dared (and later!) to hold the place at the hairpin, real sweaty hand experience.  Great racing with Jeff (held you off for a lap or two!), PR and Tinman.   ;D

After MJ lost it (bad luck mate, after our white knuckle side by side moment I was wracking my brain how to get past you!) I was able to get on it and began closing rapidly on Geoffers, but laps were running out and I needed a mistake from him, which wasn't forthcoming.  It was great fun to push flat out and do qually lap after lap right at the end though.

Congratulations on SBGs win, Jeff's recovery and Geoffers podium in his first race, another 2-3 laps and I'd have had ya!   ;)

Sorry to Martin very close driving and i´d hit throttle earlier than you,
thats why i touch your rear, very sorry.

No worries buddy, bit frustrating but that's racing eh!!

Was loving driving the TVR so much that I ran it anyway, even though I was slow in it!
The unfortunate bump left me in 16th! Oh well!!
Had a storming start, went from 18th was it? to 7/8th in the first corner!!
that suprised a few!!  ;D

Great fun as usual guys!!

How come I'm shown as DQed  ??? i came in 7th but i did leap of the track at the end of the start finish  :(  i think the same happend to Ruskus at Spa when you fall off the end of the world  ???

Results show you returned to your rightfull place now. Thanks Dave :)

I enjoy an end of race spank and stunts like the rest of you but, if this keeps happening we may have to knock it on the head. Its fiddly to manually alter results and one thing Dave could do without out. We'll keep an eye on it.

Thanks guys, I enjoyed my first race with you, so that means you will have to put up with me again next week  ;)

After a bit of paint swapping I emerged 5th from T1 with SteveH's Elan & 3 Cobras in front. Got past MarkJ's Cobra when he was a bit slow out of the first of the fast RHers & tried to hang on to the other 2 Cobras but they gradually started pulling away.

Syd & SteveH then had a coming together & I moved up to 2nd with SBG gradually pulling away in front. Syd quickly caught up & blasted past on the S/F straight & about half distance Jeff did the same. Briefly got 2nd back when Jeff & Syd went playing in the sand on successive laps before Jeff reclaimed the place.

Now comfortable in 3rd & taking it a bit easier, I nearly paid the price of not keeping an eye on my pitboard, as with 2 laps to go I suddenly noticed another Elan not too far behind. SteveH had quickly reeled me in when I wasn't looking. So I had to up the pace a bit the last couple of laps to hold onto my podium place.

Congrats to SBG & Jeff, great driving both.

I had a lonnng day at work so was rather tired by the time this event started – so for safety reasons i selected the 289 Corba (or perhaps TeamPOOdle run out of money for the 427?).  Quali went OK no big issues with the car but I was in 17th or so….near the back in a Cobra :(
Anyway race started OK…I was 13/14th’ ish during the opening laps…. the car felt fine, probably handling better with the extra weight of the fuel. But the 289 - mann it just lacks in every department…I don’t even think I passed a Lotus on the long main straight…so with that in mind I was looking for a top ten finish.
The thing is, most drivers going at a similar pace to me where just not making enough mistakes ;) I managed to finally pass one Lotus fair and square –  so was happy with that > and I was happy that I made no big mistakes and didnt manage to balls-up anyone else’s race due to my tiredness.

11th ….i dunno….i was looking for a top ten - but I couldn’t of done much more – i had a bump from will16v mid race which spun me off @ T1 > without that would a p10 finish of been possible?…mmmm I dunno.  (np about the bump – just one of them things)

I should of drove the Daytona!

grats to Ginsters, fine performance > a in beast of a car.
and also Ruskus starting from the back and finishing p2, impressive
